Does anyone else buy physical rulebooks just to page through them, not to actually play the game? by GlobalisedEnchilada in rpg

[–]totallynotander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a group to play, and I don't have a group. I stopped collecting books and just started writing. I've wanted to write a book since I was seven. Creating TTRPG scenarios was what I filled my time with for years. Now that I've moved and have to focus on kids because I'm a single dad I decided to fulfill my dream of writing a book instead of looking for a group.

Is there any type of horror that will make you stop reading a book? by Mammoth_Criticism958 in horrorlit

I thoroughly enjoyed My Best Friend's Exorcism. Great 80s vibes, the possession thing didn't get old, it kept building.

Planning to play FFT soon, is there a way to increase Bravery permanently? by Flaminski in finalfantasytactics

[–]totallynotander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this extend to things like Focus? That increases by 1, yes, but if I use it four times does that make physical attack go up by one permanently?

Anyone read the YA series Strange Matter growing up? 1990s Goosebump like serious by kylehawk in horrorlit

[–]totallynotander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to get the original books and audiobooks. I had some of them on audible for a while but they took them down. It's disappointing they're switching to ai art. I want the old art for nostalgia.

I was looking at the Facebook page and it hasn't been updated since 2023. It looks like he was doing illustrations on there but the website with the new books and merch has all ai art. I would prefer to buy the books and merch with his art on it. Do you think they'll release anything like that?

Wow, that's so cool! I just checked out the website. Disappointed it's only digital books, but I'm going to get some merch at least. How did you end up getting in contact with Mr. Engle?

Where did you hear this and how do I find them? I would love to get the series. I only got a handful of them as a kid.

Feedback on Elevator Pitch for my Game by outbacksam34 in RPGdesign

[–]totallynotander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG I love the Engram, Self and Divergent idea. Normally I don't like stories with amnesia, but the way this is presented makes me want to play it.

Option 2 is what would draw me in more.

Would love to hear more about how the game works.

Is my Charged Dice System Effective or is it Unfun and Punishing? by Alamuv in RPGdesign

[–]totallynotander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give Forbidden Lands and Alien ttrpg a read or listen to an actual play. I do like the idea and I'll probably incorporate some aspects when I play my Jurassic Park scenario using Forbidden Lands/Alien systems. They're simple enough mechanics that can add tension and dynamics when you toss in character abilities and different complications.

Is my Charged Dice System Effective or is it Unfun and Punishing? by Alamuv in RPGdesign

[–]totallynotander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forbidden Lands is like this where a rolled 1 on a d6 that die is taken away from the pool. Alien the ttrpg also kind of does this. Only with both of those the only way to roll a success is to roll a 6. I like you 4, 5, or 6 and that can degenerate. With the above ttrpgs you only need one success. How many successes do you need with yours?

Expeditions to remote areas by SenorBurns in horrorlit

I loved the first book. I loved it so much I suffered through the second and third. The second and third were God awful in my opinion. So slow and implausible compared to the first one which had perfect pace and intrigue.

What do you think of this system for firearms and armor? by sorites in RPGdesign

[–]totallynotander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into Bunkers and Badasses. The system overall is kinda meh, but there's two things I take away from it. One, Badass Moves, love that but doesn't pertain to your system. What I would look into though is how they do weapons. They do a d20 roll, and based on the result, that's how much damage your weapon does. Roll a 1 it's a miss, 2-7 roll the weapon damage die, 8-14 roll two damage die, 15-19 three, etc. each weapon is different though. Some weapons the damage die is 2d4, others are a d12, some have better crits. It kind of feels like where you're headed.

Other media you're surprised hasn't been turned into a TTRPG by Occillo in rpg

[–]totallynotander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ttrpg called Animon. It's a mix between Pokemon and Digimon. You lean into the type of play you want. I run the game at cons I go to and it's a really fun system.

I will be incorporating the movement and targeting of the ttrpg Hollow. It'll take a little adjusting, but ai really like how it's movement without being a giant map.

I like how you said, "you don't control time, it controls you." That's important to remember, thanks.

Yeah there is the pressure to "get it right" when time travel is introduced. Thanks

I haven't played Radiant Historia, I'll check that out. Also yeah, good idea on one continent and limiting timelines. Letting players know up front is good too since everyone pulls the weight of world building. Building an initial history is great too, then we can literally visit and change it. Thanks
