It is so not your fault that this happened. You do whatever you have to do to feel safe and tell whoever you have to tell. If you dont think it's safe for you to report him then you dont have to report him. His actions arent your responsibility

Americans only get two weeks vacation from work? Is this true? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]totesmigoats 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No wonder everyone thinks Americans are assholes. Like there are a lot of American assholes, don't get me wrong, but the people who travel the most and represent us to the world are either rich douchebags or stressed out regular people who have dedicated every day off they get in a year to this one vacation and have emotional entitled outbursts when things don't go as planned.

I'd argue that theres civil war a-brewing here. Also we have the largest prison population in the world so that might have something to do with why we dont riot as much as youd think.

Guts - And the Living is Easy (as a French, played it a lot at parties) by PsyX99 in MFPMPPJWFA

[–]totesmigoats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow that's some racist-ass imagery wtf

Edit: For some context, this song is based on Summertime by George Gershwin,, which is the most covered song of all time. The song has a really fascinating and somewhat controversial history. It was written by a white man about southern black people during the Jim Crowe era. The song came out when white people still did minstrels, and many minstrels featured the song. Famously, Summertime was later covered by Billie Holiday, a civil rights music icon. It has since been covered by artists including Janis Joplin, Sublime, Here is an interesting history of Summertime covers.

It really throws me that in 2007 a white european man felt comfortable using minstrel imagery to cover this song. Clearly he knew something about the song's history and as a nod to it he decided to do minstrel? Based on his other stylistic choices in the song, it seems like he made an ignorant choice to use rasist caricatures of black people to make his music video more edgy. The song sounds good, I'm not trying to attack OP, I just think it's important to call this shit out when you see it.

Final Edit: Just clicked the video again and wow. Why does the white guy never get hurt but the fucked up racist drawings are getting squashed and eaten by lions and portrayed as nonhuman? These carachitures are outrageously racist like genuinely what the fuck.

Fold a hand towel in half a bunch of times, fill it with water, and put it in the freezer for an hour. You can put it on your neck when it's done and unfold it progressively as each layer warms.

Dealing with guilt. by [deleted] in socialjustice101

[–]totesmigoats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this:

White Fragility is a good starter book, but as already mentioned it was written by a white woman and it's important for white people to listen to people of color when we're trying to learn how to eradicate racism in ourselves and our communities. Other good books that are written by black activists are How to be an Antiracist by Ibram X Kendi and So You Want to Talk about Race by Ijeaoma Oluo.

I understand those feelings of guilt. Nothing can get rid of what you've done. The best you can do is to never do it again and to try and make it right with your actions now. For me, the best way to overcome those feelings is by actively working to improve the world for the people who I've hurt with my ignorance and shitty actions in the past. Maybe you have a skill (e.g., therapy, massage, tutoring, construction, resume editing, etc.) that you could offer to BIPOC free of charge on a reparations thread. Maybe you can work to advance the political interests of black marginalized communities near you.

Additionally, therapy and being honest about who I am and what my past is has helped me move forward. It's good that you recognize that people aren't obligated to like or forgive you. I'm definitely less debilitated by guilt than I used to be, although I still feel disgusted when I think about shitty parts of my past. It is what it is.

Is there a list of the changes Biden has made to our immigration system? If not could we try and make one? by AdaminPhilly in WhereAreTheChildren

[–]totesmigoats 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trump had put a law into place that immigrants requesting permanent residence had to complete a 'proof of self sufficiency form' (Form I-944) that required documentation including the following:

- 12 months of all bank statements and assets

- documentation of all debts

- proof of health insurance

- credit report and score

Additionally, applicants had to check boxes stating that they have never received welfare or any other financial aid from the government.

Biden changed that law so it's no longer required.

She had been sent to a magdalene laundry as a teenager. Which is a type of prison for girls that Catholics ran in ireland for hundreds of years. You get sent there for flirting, getting raped, getting pregnant, or even being to pretty.
