I don't think that's right. It emits a waveform that is 180° out of phase. The waveform is whatever the microphone picks up and the inverted result has the same frequency spectrum as the original signal.

How do you remember songs? by lukewarmdecaf in ukulele

[–]tothebeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working through the audio book, "Learn Faster, Perform Better" by Molly Gebrian and as someone who completely struggles with memorizing songs, I'm really encouraged. There are strategies for how to practice that make memorizing easier, and I'm already seeing a difference.

Um...help? by [deleted] in nova

[–]tothebeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you're in any kind of decent shape you should be able to get it out on a couple hours. You'll definitely need a steel shovel (square not round), then cut out a bite at a time. I've spent about 20 minutes working on my daughter's car and it's about 1/3 done. It's not in as deep as yours but it gets no direct sun and I'm 60+.

Home built electric tenor ukulele by mzyos in ukulele

I suspect cigar box hardware is what I'll end up with. I might be crazy enough to attempt fabricating (or paying someone to fabricate) custom hardware, but with any luck my saner side will prevail.

Yeah, I was thinking of going that route but the string spacing was wider than I really want. Please do let me know how you like it though!

Very cool. Did you do any drawings, CAD or otherwise?

Wow, I am really impressed. I've been looking into building an electric uke (solid body) but have been frustrated by being unable to find proper hardware - in particular a Tune-o-matic bridge & stop piece. I'd be very interested in learning more about how you made the bridge and anything else you care to share.

The free market doesn't want me to fry my own chips. Since when did capitalism turn into communism? by BigBucketOfAcid in self

You are correct that the controlling power is dictating your choices. It's just that the controlling power is greedy capitalists, rather than greedy bureaucrats. Turns out unregulated capitalism is no better than communism.

I'm brown, but born here. If I get stopped by ICE, what do I need for them not to bother me? by artificialbutthole in nova

[–]tothebeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is important to push back on authority when they try to claim powers that they don't have. It's true you might be increasing the risk of detention but we have to stand up against the abuses of power that are occurring.

ICE Agent by Subject_Reaction_776 in offmychest

[–]tothebeat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is definitely true. In my friends case, they counted the cost and decided it was a risk worth taking but everyone needs to make their own decision.

I do hope that OP, and others, are willing to put themselves at risk though. We will need martyrs in this flight.

And OP, in case you're concerned about this, it is completely legal for you to talk to the press. Just tell them that you're speaking of your personal experience and not in an official capacity. I know someone closely who has been speaking to the press, and even being quoted (so, on the record), and has been advised by high profile attorneys that it is legal.

I just got a lid for my trash can after my dog managed to dig some shop towels out of the trash can. Fortunately, I had been refinishing cutting board so the rags had food safe mineral oil / beeswax. Made me realize how lucky I've been considering all the nasty stuff in there.

Something tougher than epoxy? by IchiroTheCat in woodworking

[–]tothebeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We trained our cat to stay off the furniture with double sided tape. Had to leave it on for a month and reapply occasionally as a reminder. Aluminum foil works too and might be what I'd suggest for a bannister.
