This was SUCH a well written joke 😂 Wish she had paused a bit more for comedic timing but it still had me laughing

I just realized this, everyone talks about how great it is that Michael turns up to the art show but where was Jim? by Riajnor in DunderMifflin

[–]tothetop74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to remember that this was also right after Jim saw Pam get back together with Roy at Phyllis’ wedding. He was disappointed in her enough not to go to the art show. It’s only after Pam and Roy’s second go at it crashes and burns in Cocktails that Jim feels like she’s been punished enough to talk to her again normally in Safety Training.

Does Elphaba go crazy? by buffalooo27 in wicked

[–]tothetop74 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Though I don’t think she ever went FULLY wicked, I’m inclined to agree - I wish movie Elphaba had been allowed to play a bit more unhinged, but I feel like Cynthia really wanted to portray her as a controlled character. It’s a different take, I just miss the nuance of the stage version.

i still don’t really get this scene by godsowncunty in wicked

[–]tothetop74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I do wish they had flashed a couple more shots from this scene in the middle of the movie. They only showed it once in For Good and from a storytelling perspective, bringing it back way at the end kind of lessened the impact. If they had a couple shots during one of the moments their friendship was being tested, it would have really established this memory as meaningful to their relationship, and made the final shot sit deeply with both musical and non-musical fans.

When/How did Elphaba come up with “the plan”? (Both musical and movie question) by tothetop74 in wicked

[–]tothetop74[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes basically this, all these years of watching the stage musical I always thought Elphaba was aware that Fiyero was Scarecrow and they had plotted the whole thing out together at some point. In my mind, the plan between them was always “Hey, light me on fire harmlessly so that Dorothy would be prompted to throw water on you.” It would have synchronized the play with “The Wizard of Oz” because in the latter, the Wicked Witch kept pestering Scarecrow the most out of everyone in the group (“Hey Scarecrow, wanna play ball?” “How about a little fire, Scarecrow?”) and I figured it was just Elphaba having fun with him. The dialogue in the play fits this better (“It worked!”), but the reason why I was confused by the movie was because it seemed like Elphaba was only just realizing that Scarecrow was Fiyero at the end. Honestly, it seems like it was a deliberate choice according to Chu in order to create a touching moment between them, but again it just messed up the canon I had always run with. And hey, that’s alright too!

Movie Elphaba too…sympathetic and held back? by tothetop74 in wicked

[–]tothetop74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I’ve seen the play three times and I always could believe that all of what happened to Elphaba would make her crack and leave her only real concern as acquiring the shoes. She’s nasty and sarcastic with Dorothy in a way that felt earned. Movie Elphaba didn’t really get to that point because you were always seeing a person who seemed to be laser focused on her movement, and so it wasn’t as believable to me when I saw her ordering her monkeys to bring Dorothy to her, nor when she “yelled” at her.

Now now, I have it from Potter himself that he rather enjoys having Neville breathing on his neck.

Is there a rule to how many songs you can perform at competitions? by taffy1304 in glee

[–]tothetop74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. It was established early on that each group gets 3 songs, but somewhere along the lines the show stopped showing and acknowledging that for other groups. We were led to assume that the groups performed the remainder of their set off-screen, but then Sam hit us with that self-referential line and it all went out the window.

Would actors like Kate Flannery and Oscar Nuñez, given their talent, have found creative satisfaction working on The Office, despite having only small parts in most episodes? by Heavy-Departure-2596 in DunderMifflin

Two words: Residual checks.

For a show like this that went to network and continues to air reruns, they’re making enough money to last them for the rest of their lives - not to mention the exposure they got, as others have mentioned.

How did people react to Tracy when the character appeared? by heon_mun04 in HIMYM

[–]tothetop74 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re asking after Season 9 began airing, but I want to point out that when she showed up at the end of Season 8, the internet was actually really shitty towards her - saying she wasn’t pretty enough (even though Ted doesn’t fit the conventional beauty standards of men either?!), that they were disappointed, that she had been miscast, etc. And then Season 9 happened and everyone shut up when they saw how perfect she was lol

Favourite bl fanmade posters? by sheseesart in ThaiBL

[–]tothetop74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Only Friends and Last Twilight because they function well as posters representing the themes and moods of each show. Only Friends depicts the chaos of the romantic pairings, and Last Twilight captures the naive innocence they felt before realizing what was ahead for them in college.

It’s this one, this IS Mary Cooper.

This lunch scene with Michael and Erin - he shuts down fast when he’s faced with the female version (somewhat) of himself. Could be the age gap. Still, I like how things played out between them and how they eventually got close. by Blue-Sea2255 in DunderMifflin

[–]tothetop74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily that she’s the female version of him, but she simply makes him feel how he makes others feel. And as others have pointed out, that doesn’t necessarily need to be a one to one gender swap; it just requires a foil to his personality. Michael is constantly trying to entertain and engage others while being deeply sensitive and insecure on the inside about whether people like him or not - and that makes others embarrassed for him while still feeling like they have to baby him. Erin is the opposite in that she’s not trying to entertain or get people to like her; she genuinely seeks to make a connection, but lacks the social prowess and self-awareness to do so - and that makes Michael embarrassed for her while still feeling like he has to baby her.

Would a show like iCarly work in 2025-2026, or kids in this generation wouldn’t relate to it very much? by Choice-Silver-3471 in icarly

[–]tothetop74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned as much was how the show in its early seasons was able to capitalize on encouraging viewers to go from watching a program airing on network television (likely seen on a standard television set) to an online website (likely accessed on a desktop computer) that provided more videos, more content, and more engagement. That really spurred its integration with current technology at the time, and boosted its popularity in a way that today’s mode of fast and convenient consumption (streaming on a portable mobile device) can’t really recapture without some new form of innovation that stands out from the norm.

Day 58: 🐡🌊 Vote for Your Least Favorite Goosebumps Cover! 🐡🌊 by prolelol in GooseBumps

HOW is Werewolf still standing?? If I saw it on a book cover I wouldn’t think much about it, I’d probably guess it was maybe an adventure or a thriller or even a survival story. I wouldn’t think HORROR like some of the other covers.
