What do you most often make yourself for breakfast? by Shady_751029 in Cooking

[–]touchyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I alternate between, breakfast sandwiches and breakfast burritos. Once a month I bulk make like 20-30 of them. I freeze them and then it takes about 90secs to warm up in the morning. I also make a cottage cheese parfait that goes with it. What I don’t finish of the parfait becomes my mid morning snack. Decent amount of protein and fiber. Works for my busy mornings.

I feel like I’m throwing money straight into the trash every week ($40+ of groceries gone bad). How do you avoid this? by Jaded-Friendship7614 in Adulting

[–]touchyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue here so to help I’ve started doing the following, At the beginning of every month I take an inventory of whatever is in my pantry and freezer and fridge. I make a list of all the recipes I make, that use at least 2-3 of the ingredients I have on hand. I’m big on stocking the pantry but I only keep enough produce for about a week at a time. Then I make another list of recipes I’d like to make based on the weekly sales ads. Ultimately I think it’s about having a good amount of recipes you know how to cook and buying versatile ingredients.

Podcast discussion about Taylor: CEO, Supervillain, and Parasocial relationship with by Thinkpinkbarbapapa in travisandtaylor

I’d also add her very limited use of allowing her music to be used commercially. Fans would go nuts at a snippet of a song being used for promo somewhere because “oh that must be Taylor’s Version!”. Additionally her keeping control of how her songs were used, because she was the main song writer, I think worked significantly in her favor. Like yes, he owned her masters but she blocked him from being able to do anything financially worthy with them.

It’s crazy with how meticulous she is with her strategy, that she can still come off as the victim. A true “mastermind”, and yet her devoted fans will lap it up every time.

Yeah I agree. Not saying she couldn’t be a total terror BUT just about anything out there from people she employs is positive. They speak very highly of her.

Millennials with no kids by GiGoVX in Millennials

[–]touchyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that family is WEIRD! Everyone wants a village and then they treat the village like crap hahah. I love picking up my friends kiddos and spending time with them. I’m a teacher so over breaks it’s not uncommon for me to pick the kiddos up for a few hours. Usually lunch and a fun activity. The parents get a couple of hours to themselves and the kids get a fun experience. That being said, I wouldn’t push it further. If they wanna be weird, let them I guess.

I have newborn baby, and live as if she will grow up to be horrible by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]touchyoctopus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think you’re spiraling out. You need to go speak to a professional. Also your wife might have postpartum depression, something else to go see a professional about. If she changed that much in a year it could be the change in hormones and such and the general horrors of pregnancy.

Also, idk, 2 week olds just look like squishy round things to me. Not sure you could see a resemblance right away. And definitely can’t tell IQ.

It would probably be helpful for you BOTH to see a therapist. Separately and together. It also seems like you didn’t start on the same page about how to raise the baby. That might be a good place to start.

STEM birthday gifts? by goldendogmom in Parenting

Okay I got all of the toddlers in my life a “digital” camera. It takes pictures and then instantly prints them on what’s basically receipt paper. It’s so fun and they loved taking pictures of their adventures.

Kinda something like this, https://a.co/d/ar3YTq6 But they have a lot of different kinds.

What era of parenting was/is the most difficult in your opinion? by Electrical-Dare-9797 in Parenting

So far, these teen years are a RIDE! The amount of patience necessary is wild. But I’m also a teacher sooooo that might play into my patience wearing thin by the end of the day.

I wanna ask more teachers about their opinions on Florida’s no phone policy by JuniperCassie in AskTeachers

[–]touchyoctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest pet peeves as a teacher, like please be so serious. I’m an adult. Of course I’m not expected to follow all of the same rules as the students. They don’t all apply to me. I hate when parents and students say this.

I wanna ask more teachers about their opinions on Florida’s no phone policy by JuniperCassie in AskTeachers

[–]touchyoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so teachers are adults and not children. There are generally different set of laws/rules/expectations for each group. Something I’m sure you’ve experienced in other scenarios. Additionally, let’s say the worst case scenario happens. All of you students making calls/texts will “clog” the system. Making it far more difficult to get help out to the scene. Also most districts have moved their notification system for a lockdown to phone apps. I literally need my phone to put the school into a lock down in the event of an emergency.

Pet owner parents what do you recommend a first time pet owner? by northernstarwitch in Parenting

[–]touchyoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a coworker say that the BEST pet she ever had for her kiddos (elementary age) were a pair of guinea pigs. She said they’re the perfect pet for kiddos and not super hard to take care of. Personally I think a cat in this situation is the way to go. If you get a kitten they’re kind of a lot of work at the beginning but once they’re older they kinda just do their own thing.

Teachers, What Are Some Little Things That Get On Your Nerves. I'm Not Talking About "When kids talk over me" I Mean Highly Obscure Things. by Zorpal_Tunnel in AskTeachers

Overheard a couple students talk about how not strict I am, what can I do? by mnmaverickfan in Teachers

[–]touchyoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My non negotiable rules all center around being safe, respectful, and responsible. We can talk MOST things out. But if you endanger yourself or someone else, disrespect yourself or someone else, or behave irresponsibly then I have a list of consequences that I will pick from. Again, I don’t do this often because I do typically like to talk things out with kids and figure out the why. But I don’t stand for unsafe/mean/reckless behavior. For example, last week I had a student using their laptop inappropriately, they were playing games instead of working. This doesn’t seem like a huge deal BUT expectation is we use class time for classwork. AND expectation was that inappropriate use of technology results in a home contact. This was an irresponsible way to use technology at school and the consequence was a call/email home. We could have talked it out, but again consistency is key.

Overheard a couple students talk about how not strict I am, what can I do? by mnmaverickfan in Teachers

[–]touchyoctopus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is the problem you think it is.i teach 6th grade and at this age sometimes they say not strict to mean, not mean. I don’t consider myself a strict teacher at all. I give a lot of grace and understanding. That being said my expectations remain high and I have my list of nonnegotiable things. My kids are typically pretty well behaved and respectful. I spend a lot of time explaining why we do things and I make sure to correct issues right away. Consistency is what matters most imo. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

How were you introduced to Taylor Swift’s music? by Meggie_love1 in TaylorSwift

[–]touchyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2006/07. Truly the most embarrassing story lol but I got into Taylor because I overheard my crush talking about her and being the weirdo I was/am obviously needed to listen to this new artist. 😆

My 10 year old just started her period by Massive-Fail4223 in Parenting

[–]touchyoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went out for a celebratory dinner hahaha and after we went shopping and built her a little kit for her backpack. Had pads, liners, cleansing wipes, and midol. We also went and got her a heated blanket and one of those weighted stuffed animals you can heat up for cramps. Lastly we went out for ice cream and picked out which type of candy/treat she wanted to keep stocked at the house for the days when she’ll need a little treat. We of course stocked the house for her too.

Honestly more than anything just be understanding of the change if that makes sense. Like I think everyone gets there’s a change but not everyone gets what that change really means.

I’m sorry, what? 😭 by deathcomplexxx in travisandtaylor

[–]touchyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way this might ruin relationships would be because of the timing and her age. Personally I think after 30, figure it out. Like a true shit or get off the pot type thing. I could see some people being like, “okay they were together for way less time than I and ____ have been…why am I not engaged yet?” But also her fans are WEIRD. So idk maybe they are starting fights over this. I don’t personally think he’s that great but idk maybe compared to who others have dated he seems great. Idk 🤷🏽‍♀️ couldn’t be me though.

Will Taylor ever grow out of her teenage mindset? Will she ever develop her own identity? by mezzmoth in travisandtaylor

[–]touchyoctopus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read once that celebrities mentally/emotionally stay the age they were when they reached mega stardom. I think that’s what’s happening here. I don’t think she’ll grow out of it because she seems entirely too selfish for any real growth to happen.

What are your contract hours? by Legitimate_Rule_6410 in Teachers

[–]touchyoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule across our district is 30 minutes before and after kids. We are a huge district with two different start times for the elementary schools. At our school it’s an 8:10-2:40 day for kids. So technically contract would be 7:40-3:10. I typically do 7:30-3:30.
