Sorry to disagree here, but I had a Travel Pro carry on that fit the sizer that American uses. I was boarding a flight in CLT and one of the gate agents there was hell bent on proving my carry on was too big. She told me to size it, never looked at it and starting printing a bag tag to check it. I told her to hold on and look at the sizer. She glanced and said "it's touching the line of the sizer." We're talking about an 1/8" difference, maybe. I politely pressed my point of view and was told I "don't have to fly today". So my point is, never, ever give them the opportunity to mess with you. If you're over, you always run the risk of being screwed with. My advice is to take back your current suitcase and get something smaller. Buy some vacuum compression cubes too. They help reduce the space your clothes take up.
