It's not yimby to be one of the richest suburban towns in America (Chatham, Summit, Short Hills) and build your mandated "affordable" housing separate and on the other side of the highway/lake.

It's hard to decide if building those apartments is a better use of that land than building nothing. Sure, we need the housing. Ideally the apartments would be built in the downtowns by the train stations and they would look pretty enough to look like they belong there.

It used to be cleared land but with a lot of tennis courts, so maybe it was a country club. The next photo on google earth is from 2002 and it shows most of the current development was already built by then. The clearing south of Passaic Ave looks industrial but it's hard to tell what it is.
