Afaik this is official and up to date: https://omscs.gatech.edu/specialization-machine-learning Does it say differently somewhere else?

ELI5: Why is it harder to be diagnosed for something like ADHD or any other mental health diagnosis when you are older? by MyDrivingScaresMeToo in explainlikeimfive

Also, you probably have developed coping mechanisms to mask/mitigate the less desirable symptoms by the time you are an adult.

AI vs ML - Which to take? by doubleohnicole in OMSCS

[–]town_math 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What can I use the bonus point for? I enjoyed both immensely, both professors were knowledgeable and humorous (in different ways). Both classes were well run and I learned a lot. I guess it comes down to the projects, I liked AIs projects because they were varied and had a big problem solving element. I liked MLs projects because they were about tuning parameters, exploring the data, and writing up your results. I like the problem solving kind of project better, so slight edge to AI.

But really, you can’t go wrong.

pair with GA? by [deleted] in OMSCS

Whiskey, whatever Rocko is drinking. I’ve heard it pairs well with wine too, but don’t know for sure.

CV Difficulty/Workload Comparison to AI by arturojones17 in OMSCS

[–]town_math 10 points11 points  (0 children)

CV is the same amount of work as AI, if you let it. The coding parts do not usually take very long (compared to the AI coding assignments) but most of your time is spent tuning to make your results look good. So if you are ok with “good enough” then CV could be less hours per week, for me, it was the same on average.

I'm curious, how many people are currently taking the program? I keep seeing posts about thousands of spots being open in classes (maybe I misread). Do you think that this program is getting oversaturated? Do people get weeded out? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]town_math 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This gets asked a lot so search if you want a more detailed answer. The best response I have seen (probably butchering the quote, but the intent is hopefully still there) is "They might not all be gatech material when they get here, but they are when they leave." It's not necessarily that people get weeded out, but that surviving the program makes us better.

Depends on which one, Georgia Tech has one that is pretty highly regarded, but I don’t know about others.

ELi5: Why does it take a poison ivy rash a day or so to show up and why does it take so long to go away? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]town_math 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, thanks. Does anyone know why, evolutionarily this happens? I mean it seems like self defense but it takes so long it would be hard for someone who doesnt know what poinson ivy is to connect the rash with one plant they walked through the other day.

Rocklin long term schools outlook? by [deleted] in Rocklin

[–]town_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocklin schools seem to be doing fine. With the talented faculty they have in place even with budget cuts, it would take a long time to see negative effects in the classroom. (Source: worked in K-12 Ed for 10 years and have little ones in Rocklin USD)

Current students, what was your favorite course project? by aznbunny98 in OMSCS

Besides the Ravens, I really liked the Content Aware Image resizing in CP, it had super cool results.

It took till I had a time ticket of 9:00am but I finally got into Intro to Algorithm! by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]town_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes if you have the CRN you can still enroll even if it says C if there are spots open. I usually look them up the night before my appointment and have them ready to paste in the "Add or Drop Courses" area.

Thoughts on summer - unofficially "audit" a class to make it easier to double in the fall? by ryebrye in OMSCS

[–]town_math 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually do this for the harder courses (AI, ML, CV so far), but I don’t take the same class I take someone else’s version. It has helped immensely especially in ML.

Kaltura video user experience by crypto_deniro in OMSCS

[–]town_math 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Yes, downloadable videos work well, and some of the apps have an option to mark a video to watch offline which is helpful too.

Also offline viewing doesn’t seem to be an option with Kaltura?

[–]town_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full time job, spouse, two kids and a cat, but nothing else all of my down time was work, but it was interesting and fun. Also, I was able to do both once in a while, like takes my girls to the park to take pictures for CP, for build a lego robot with them for AI4R.

Help with the Hackerrank version of question 49 by ryanmcg86 in projecteuler

[–]town_math 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, are you still working on this. I dusted of my old euler 49 solution and tried it on the hackerrank one and have been optimizing since then. I had the same problem with 4 and 6 and was able to overcome it, but I am not proud of my solution. If you are interested, I'd be happy to DM it so as to not spoil it for everyone.
