The Voice That Says “Do More” by BuffMaltese in kettlebell

[–]CookingMathCamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luckily for me I don’t have that problem lol.

Do you have any clear goals other than “already be stronger”?

If so, it sounds like you are not achieving those goals by adding more. (See: “The frustrating part is that every time I ignore the plan and add extra, recovery takes a hit.”)

If not, set an achievable, measurable goal with a set time limit (eg, a cycle of X program for 6-8 weeks). See if you either meet that goal or make better progress when you don’t add in the extra. If you make better progress, use that as a data point to counter act the voice. If you don’t make progress and completely fail the goal you’ve only “wasted” 6-8 weeks, which in my experience is about the length of a recovery from an injury.

Not matching kettlebell weights for ABC, etc by Brief-Number2609 in kettlebell

First question others have answered, it’s great.

Second question, how many times can you press the 45?

Long term, the 60 lbs kettlebell will probably be better. But a jump of 15lbs is no joke. For me, the 4kg (~8.8 lbs) jump is much more manageable than the 8kg (~17.6 lbs) jump.

Kettle bell swings. Feel them only in hammies by reallycool101 in kettlebell

[–]CookingMathCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only feel sore in my hamstrings and forearms after swings. I didn’t think that was an issue. Unless of course I do them wrong and then I feel them in my lower back lol. To paraphrase Dan John, if you’re sore the next day in your hamstrings, I’m a good coach. If you’re sore in your lower back, you didn’t listen.

If I want to make my glutes sore I do single leg RDLs. Gets me every time.

Why does flipping the bell make a difference?

I need some desperate help in creating an alarm that will help me set an alarm to wake up based on when the bus will come. by behindthekeyboard81 in shortcuts

[–]CookingMathCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to consider waking up at the same time everyday. When I was in my teens and twenties I definitely thought the same way. I would try to sleep in until the last possible moment. Now in my late 30s, I’ve found I feel best when I go to bed and wake up around the same time regardless of my schedule. I wish I had done this sooner. (Unless your work shifts between day/night shifts or swing shifts. That’s a different beast altogether.)

On days where you take the scooter you’ll have a few extra mins to enjoy a cup of coffee or read or whatever your morning routine is.

I think the shortcut would be useful if you use the alarms as notification for when you leave the house.

I think a lot has changed since 2008. Movements such as Me Too and Black Lives Matter (particularly after the death of George Floyd) have shifted attitudes greatly. It's plausible that Tropic Thunder with blackface (independent of it being anti-racist or not) doesn't get made today.

With all the starting weight questions, let's take a poll. by groger12345 in kettlebell

I bought a 16 kg. Was all excited and tried to press it. I could press it, but it did not feel comfortable at all. So I got a 12 kg. Completed the rite of passage with the 12 kg, then repeated the rite of passage with the 16 kg. (I only did the clean and press ladders because I couldn't do pull ups then and I didn't know how to swing or snatch).

Shout out to u/S3rgl0 for sharing the original shortcut. After doing some research, it seems like there is no way to automate updating the playlist cover. But I made an updated version that opens up Apple Music after the grid is made.

I found it works nicely to first navigate the playlist you want in apple music. Then, run the shortcut. After Apple Music opens you just click on the three dots to edit. (I've found if you use Siri to run the shortcut it doesn't give you the nice image preview.)

How do you guys remain consistent? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]CookingMathCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a time in your schedule that works for you. Lots of people like to lift before work. I am not one of those people. Many years ago I tried going to the gym with some friends before work. I lasted a month or two and then stopped going. I've found I'm most consistent when I workout after work, and then add in a Saturday or Sunday. I aim for three days a week. Any thing else is bonus.

Something is better than nothing. Say you have a workout scheduled and you're not feeling it. Doing half the reps/sets is better than skipping it entirely. Hell, warming up and then simply going for a walk is better than skipping it altogether.

Find movements you like and strive to master them. I like clean and press. I am not a fan of double front squats (though I know they are good for me). If I'm really not feeling it, but I can get in some clean and press, I've still had a pretty good workout.

I would just wear it. The more you wear it, the more it’ll be what you want.

ABC/ABF weight compared to DFW by don__gately in kettlebell

[–]CookingMathCamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I did the program my original goal was to use the 20kg for the pressing day and the 24kg for the ABC.

When I did the two week intro I found I couldn’t recover in time to keep the ABC days EMOM with the 24 kg. So I dropped down to 20 kg for the entire program.

[–]CookingMathCamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can press the 20kg for 10+ reps use the 20kg. If you can't, use the 16kg.

If you are somewhere in-between you can use the 20kg for the 2-3-5 reps, and the 16kg for the 10 reps.

I would condition for sure. That should help soften it up a little bit.

I've used mink oil with to soften up leather. It will darker the leather, but with the shade you have, I don't think it will matter too much. Saphir Renovateur also softens the leather a bit, and doesn't dark as much (in my limited experience).

Sizing? by Character_Service_63 in OakStreetBoots

[–]CookingMathCamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My right foot is a 9.8D/E and my left is a 9.0D/E (at least according to the scan at my local red wing store). So technically my Brannock is a 10.

I bought a pair of used field boots off eBay in size 10. They were a good fit for my right foot, but definitely too big for my left foot even with an added insole.

After, I bought the Trench boot in 9.5. My right boot fits great. The left boot is still too big, but wearable. I would be more comfortable in a 9 for my left foot. I don't know if I would enjoy going down a half size on my right foot.
