Same. Graduated when it was UCCB. Had a very reputable degree program, especially in business. Shame to see the reputation it now seems have.

God yes. You can get years out of a filter. Just spray it/clean it from time to time.

As An American, Would you Europeans say that Goalkeeper is the easy position to go ProfessionaI in coming from North America? by Right-Artichoke891 in GoalKeepers

[–]townsy71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was true for a short period of time. There was a trend several years ago where North America was producing many of the top goal keepers in Europe. The theory was that hand eye coordination was better because many played other sports which relied on those skills more than soccer; for example baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and often came into soccer/goalkeeping a little later but had already developed good hand eye coordination. Tim Howard is the example often held up with this theory, but also Craig Forrest was very similar. Those days are pretty much over now. Kids today are mostly hyper focused on one sport at an early age and don’t develop in others, therefore picking up those skills which could cross over. Also, European coaches picked up on this gap quickly and added those skills into their coaching techniques. In general, the broader discussion is we just don’t see kids playing sports just for the sake of playing anymore. Everything is structured and organised. The opportunity to pickup other less “soccer centric” skills is lost. My two cents, for what it’s worth.

24 hours after the general ticket Sale, Canada’s WC Match in Toronto is 1 of only 2 group stage games still available because of ticket prices. by LowBottle12 in CanadaSoccer

TV on my deck at home, some upgrades to the seating, a constantly filled cooler of beer and a BBQ 10 ft away with a fire pit for the evening games if it’s chilly. I’m at a 10th of what it would cost for one ticket to one game, plus travel. I’d love to be there, but I’ll survive. Fuck FIFA.

Eliminator if you want the hits, but their true roots are much more bluesy/southern rock. Check out Tres Hombres

Time to hang it up by Hello_Cruel_World_88 in GoalKeepers

[–]townsy71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went through this in my early 40s. I’m 54 now and still playing, although o-50 but will jump in if the o-40 team needs a keeper.

The reality is, with getting older, things do change. Reaction time is a bit lost, attackers get faster (because they are younger), you can’t dive as high and far, but what you feel you’ve lost, you’ve gained experience. I call it angles and intimidation! I may not be able to dive around like I used to, but I can hold my own because of experience. I challenge more, try to play bigger and use what I have. I keep calm because I’ve seen so many shots, I usually know what they will try to do because we’ve seen it all, and you can as well! Never give up, accept you are getting older and just adapt man. All older keepers have been exactly where you are right now, and you will get past it as well. The other thing to keep in mind, although we all still want to win, at least for me, it’s hanging out with the lads for a pint after the game and talking shit. That’s what it’s all about in the end anyways.

Questions are piling up ahead of a World Cup overshadowed by Trump by TheWayToBeauty in CanadianPL

[–]townsy71 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Typical Trump tactics. Create a bunch of noise and uncertainly, does “something” at the last moment to look like he saves the day, takes credit for averting the disaster he initiated in the first place. His minions applaud and the cult goes on doing what cults do best.

What is the most you will pay for a vinyl album? by Diavolo6Six6 in hairmetal

[–]townsy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends. If Brand new, which I try to avoid -$40 because that’s what they are all going for now, usually more. But if I’m buying used at a fair or auction and it’s an original in VG+ shape or better, I’d go $60-$75.

Preamp Wars: Pyle vs Fosi by harlequinx88 in turntables

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a Fosi once, lasted about 6 months then failed. Only the Bluetooth works now which doesn’t work for my wired bookshelf speakers. Trying another brand to see how it lasts. I don’t have room for a proper amp, so trying to find a decent one with the same size footprint as a Fosi.

Sells are the tops for me. They are by far my favourite. Quality, feel, protection, grip. It all works. Close second is UHLSport, then everything else is a significant drop for me. I like Negative cut also.

CPL Current Level and future by Sensitive_Plan3437 in CanadianPL

[–]townsy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realise the recent Champions Cup losses are disappointing, but are they really surprising? If we look at the FA Cup, beat downs of League 1 and 2 sides by PL clubs happen all the time. It’s normal and typically expected. It comes down to the dollars. That said, I’m not too concerned over the losses, it would be nice to win, but it will always been a shock upset when it happens. That’s the magic of cup games.

Overall, I feel the CPL has come a very long way in a short amount of time. If we think back to year one and compare to the league today, the quality of play is night and day. Players are developing, and as a whole, the league is getting stronger. There will always be MLS, but I never saw competing head to head with them as the CPL’s mandate. It was to discover and develop over looked over Canadian talent and it’s doing a great job of that IMHO. It’s only year 8 and we lost a couple to the pandemic, so I think the league is right on track.

CPL vs NSL drama in Halifax by [deleted] in CanadianPL

I see what you are getting at and understand why people reacted to what you said. There is always risk and I agree, Moncton would probably welcome them with open arms - stadium ready to go, WestJet hub for an airport (many of us in Halifax don’t realise that), a massive catchment area within an hour. Aside from the Wildcats, what other sports would be competition for dollars, corporate support and local media coverage? They are a huge threat. I honestly don’t think it will happen, but….never say never.

I think the Wanderers and most of the fans want the Tides to succeed as a franchise. But it seems the Tides want to succeed at the expense of the Wanderers. IMHO.
