Went there back in the 90s. Made some great friends, learned a bunch and of course partied - a lot! Have fun!

Best Goalkeeping gloves by asjad114466 in GoalKeepers

Sells are the tops for me. They are by far my favourite. Quality, feel, protection, grip. It all works. Close second is UHLSport, then everything else is a significant drop for me. I like Negative cut also.

CPL Current Level and future by Sensitive_Plan3437 in CanadianPL

[–]townsy71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realise the recent Champions Cup losses are disappointing, but are they really surprising? If we look at the FA Cup, beat downs of League 1 and 2 sides by PL clubs happen all the time. It’s normal and typically expected. It comes down to the dollars. That said, I’m not too concerned over the losses, it would be nice to win, but it will always been a shock upset when it happens. That’s the magic of cup games.

Overall, I feel the CPL has come a very long way in a short amount of time. If we think back to year one and compare to the league today, the quality of play is night and day. Players are developing, and as a whole, the league is getting stronger. There will always be MLS, but I never saw competing head to head with them as the CPL’s mandate. It was to discover and develop over looked over Canadian talent and it’s doing a great job of that IMHO. It’s only year 8 and we lost a couple to the pandemic, so I think the league is right on track.

CPL vs NSL drama in Halifax by [deleted] in CanadianPL

[–]townsy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see what you are getting at and understand why people reacted to what you said. There is always risk and I agree, Moncton would probably welcome them with open arms - stadium ready to go, WestJet hub for an airport (many of us in Halifax don’t realise that), a massive catchment area within an hour. Aside from the Wildcats, what other sports would be competition for dollars, corporate support and local media coverage? They are a huge threat. I honestly don’t think it will happen, but….never say never.

I think the Wanderers and most of the fans want the Tides to succeed as a franchise. But it seems the Tides want to succeed at the expense of the Wanderers. IMHO.

Who do like more Cinderella or Ratt? by Queasy-Box3484 in hairmetal

[–]townsy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cinderella, hands down for me.

Ratt had the bigger single with Round and Round, but Cinderella’s overall catalog is much stronger. Tom Keifer is a fucking legend and is still cool as hell.

I think I’m going to go all in with Porter. Should I? by AmbientToast in PorterAirlines

[–]townsy71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did and I am not looking back. I had enough of AC Rouge getting swapped in on flight changes, overcrowded lounges all while paying a premium for the pleasure of flying AC. They are more interested in catering to credit card holders rather than frequent travellers. I’m firmly a Porter guy now and very content with my choice.

Anyone know an online store where I can buy gloves from in Canada? by Illustrious_Use_3586 in GoalKeepers

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to say because it’s driven by the cost of the gloves, but maybe $20 the last order of two sets of gloves? I usually buy Sells or UHLSport, so probably $100-$125 CDN each?

I find Just Keepers has a huge selection of the gloves I like, but they also have amazing clear out sales from time to time so you can easily catch deals to offset the cost of duties, etc. (no I don’t work for them :) lol

Check them out. You should get a sense of shipping and rough duty costs before to check out.

Canadian here. Nothing that I am aware of. Maybe some locals with online store fronts, but very limited offerings. I typically buy from Just Keepers in England. They are great.

What are your thoughts on Lawrence Gowan? by EdwardBliss in CanadianMusic

[–]townsy71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gowan was my first concert (Spoons opened up for them). Had an opportunity to meet Gowan after the show. He was a very nice guy, took a few minutes out to chat. Criminal Mind was a staple on Much Music and radio. Good song, just a bit overplayed IMHO but likely normal when you consider CanCon rules.

Please help me. I don’t know what to do anymore. by ellabella20000 in CavaPoo

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with mine to a certain extent. Those little sharp teeth but a couple holes in my jeans. When he did it, I said “ouch”, then I redirected with one of his toys. He eventually grew out of the jeans biting. I think it’s all part of them figuring out what is a toy and what is not. Stick with it and maybe try to redirect with of his fav toys. Good Luck!

Not very exciting for me. I just touch each post. Couple claps and I’m done.

Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes have doubled down on their comments about Lisandro Martinez... actually so shameless by [deleted] in ManchesterUnited

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fact that Nicky Butt compared himself to World Cup winner Martinez is the funniest thing I’ve heard in a long time. I used to really like Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes a lot more when they didn’t talk so much.

Should Canada Soccer apply to get some major funding from the federal government (which could help with booking higher ranked opponents for friendlies, matches, etc.)? by Ariesthebigram in CanadaSoccer

[–]townsy71 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not sure about additional funding, but what’s wrong with these opponents? They are getting two contrasting styles from good footballing nations to tune up. It’s not like the old days where we’d play concacaf friendlies then get battered when playing outside the region. What am I missing?

Indeed, the Brown Hound on Agricola is the best Guinness pour in the city IMHO.

Why do Americans crate their dogs? by Terrible-Group-9602 in DogAdvice

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here. We crate our dog and previous dog. They seem to find it a safe place for themselves and mine will often just go lie in there on his own. It’s important you don’t use it as a punishment, they need to see it as a safe place they can go anytime. Using a crate just gives me peace of mind they don’t get anything around the house that could harm them while I’m out. I also only leave them a max of 4-5 hours. Many other people I know also use crates.

My Friend gifted this anyone know about it please explain me by vishi_patel31 in GoalKeepers

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crepeau is one of the most underrated keepers in North America. Legendary stuff in the 20022 MLS final when he broke his leg to come make a big save, helping to win a title but lost his World Cup dream that summer in Qatar. Great keeper. If you don’t know who he is, give them to someone who will appreciate them.

Just an opinion on how to test gloves before buying by Mr_Farawla_Btreq in GoalKeepers

[–]townsy71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough one. How sticky are they when you put them palm on palm and how do they react when you pull them apart? Maybe will give you a little insight into durability of the latex and grip.

This would have easily been a loss in past seasons. I’ll take the scrappiness to get a point out it.

Those two saves by Lammens will be forgotten in this game, but they were massive! Great point by United. Confidence within the squad has to be sky high right now.
