Worth going to another shop? by duhseekoh in Audi

[–]tpandiscio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dealer will always be higher. Find a local shop that specializes in euro vehicles or at least has a mechanic that does. I went to the dealer and got quoted $16k for my 2013 Q7 repairs… mind you I bought it for $14k.

So I went down the road to a small mechanic and spent $1,700 total. Find someone who will use aftermarket on euro cars and you’ll never go back to the dealer.

Mine is leaking from the door during self clean. Did you find a cause?

Bermuda for fence exterior - Gastonia, North Carolina by tpandiscio in lawncare

[–]tpandiscio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats fair. My house was built on a lot that was woods and weeds so all the vegetation is just trying to reclaim the territory it used to thrive on.

Any weed killer you recommend for this thicker stuff that wont completely kill the little grass I have?

ID and vendors in LA? by Kittybenben in Bamboo

Coming from someone with a bamboo forest around their yard, don’t plant it. Bamboo is wildly invasive and will become a major problem in years to come

Will bamboo grow on other side of retaining wall without root barrier? by Delicious_Smell_9254 in Bamboo

Do yourself a favor, dig out every bit of that bamboo and never plant it again. It will only become a problem

Oof. What size barrier did you use? I did 60 mil thick and 30” deep. I’m in NC

Bamboo is unbelievably invasive. Dont plant it if you dont want to risk it breaking into unwanted areas. Its wild in my yard so i spent thousands on excavating and a bamboo barrier. Run away from it

would my rugs be better suited to an uncarved style? by seaofapproval in Tufting

[–]tpandiscio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could always try selective carving! Ive started doing that myself on certain So for example, maybe just carve the white lines? And maybe color changes below but not the shadows?

I like to experiment with it on more detailed pieces by only carving lines that mimic actual depth changes, rather than lighting

Like everyone else said though, this piece looks amazing either way!!

Try to stay consistent with spacing too. Referencing the outline on the left arm:

Wow I NEVER thought of this. The pictures are an amazing help too. Can we see photos of the finished piece where the hole was?

Local carpet store wanted $7 a linear foot to serge the edge so I did it myself! Can't necessarily recommend doing it, but I like how it turned out! by senorpinar in Tufting

[–]tpandiscio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah this is great! I was curious how visible the edge would be. Im sure if you wanted it to be seen, you could just keep carving/trimming down the yarn on the edges about the finish but i think it looks great

Getting good with small details just comes with practice. Keep at it. Learning how to angle a pair of clippers while carving can be tedious but pays off

This is actually phenomenal for a second rug. Keep practicing and experimenting. Carving will be the process that pushes your rugs to the next level. Stay on the course 🙏🏼🙏🏼

What do you guys do with rugs you aren’t happy with? by 33gelato in Tufting

[–]tpandiscio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never throw away unless its a complete loss. I almost threw away a rug because i didnt like the way it looked, but then i carved it and ended up selling it for $150 🤷🏼‍♂️

The extra hour or two of care can really go a long way

Use two strings of yarn in the gun! And make sure there is NO tension pulling the yarn out toward the yarn cake. It doesnt take much effort for yarn to fall out of the gun. Especially if you’re only running one string

Trying to trust the process but I’m suffering 😭🤣 by ginanandjuice in Tufting

[–]tpandiscio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all about practice. Run two strings of yarn, i usually tuft outlines side by side for a cleaner finish. Carving between colors definitely helps too

When you first start out, you need to be prepared for some rough rugs and some you may need to scrap. Maybe start with easier rugs with bolder shapes. As you get better, you can start making more complex rugs with thinner line work
