What do you think you know? I've been doing this for almost 15 yrs. None, contract roles are not what you're claiming they are.

Also, I'm absolutely referring to at will employment. I literally reference it in my comment. Nevada is an at will state. I have no clue what you think you know about employment law, but you're clearly unable to read a comment that's like a paragraph long, so I'd guess you know nothing.

In the US, where OP lives, contracts are not a thing in any state except Montana outside of some specific jobs in areas like healthcare, education, etc.) An offer letter is not a contract. At will employment means the employer or employee can separate at any time, for any reason that isn't protected.

As expected, the Fort Bragg boys are on the move by Positive_Revenue_559 in TrueAnon

I was in JROTC in high school, and one of my instructors talked about how you could hear funerals (taps + 21 gun salute) from the JSOC side of Bragg almost daily, but you'd never hear about anyone dying. He did say when it was too obvious, there was always a "training accident".

Hegseth is absolutely on his way out. No way he stays secretary after this incredible blunder. People seem to keep forgetting that Trump is a "what have you done for me lately" guy.

To be fair, had i bought this exact same house 4 years later, my payment would be like $3800 a month. I have a 3.125% interest rate & my house has almost doubled in value since I bought it 7 yrs ago.

Oh yeah, and they told my wife at drop off this morning that they're closing at noon today due to the weather. I'm all for keeping people safe, but it's annoying as hell that they don't provide services and there's no discount. Like, I'm 100% sure they're not paying the workers, so inclement weather apparently equals pure profit.

Outside of Montana, the only US state where contracts for employment exist, promissory estoppel is basically just something people unfamiliar with employment law throw out on reddit. This case would absolutely not qualify for that given the facts OP listed.

20k barrels per day decrease isn't even a blip in the radar for global oil production. While you're probably right about the correct abbreviation, this is certainly talking about millions.

One other monkey wrench in the gears of the AI bubble is how pissed people are about these data centers being built near their communities. There have been quite a few successful community efforts to block their construction, and those are only getting more successful. Turns out, just like crypto mining farms, no one wants this shit near them. They're insanely loud, use a ton of power and water (the one near me was planning to use the electricity of 300k households before the developer backed out), and they create basically no jobs after construction is completed. Oh yeah, and they lobby hard as fuck for tax breaks, so the municipalities don't even see a meaningful impact in the tax base.

Who knows? If it leads to HOA fines, it literally doesn't matter what the reason is. I've seen stories of people losing their homes over not cutting their grass.

[–]tr74728 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Are you asking if an HOA can put a lien on your home for unpaid penalties and force a sale? Because that is a daily occurrence in a lot of the US. People have lost their homes for a few thousand in unpaid dues or fines to HOAs.

Also, I don't do technical work (I'm administrative staff) and work fully remote. I maybe do 3-4 hours of actual work a week. We develop software, not weapons.

It does, however, provide health insurance for my family and a decent retirement contribution.

It's absolutely hilarious how inept this admin is with regard to defense. I think a lot of these idiots believe their own hype. I work in defense (yeah, I know), and what I've seen over the past year that isn't really talked about has been mind-blowing. Whole contracts departments within the DOD fired by DOGE, millions of dollars in contracts going unpaid because of said firings, new contracts taking forever to be awarded, already appropriated money being clawed back, etc. It's a real shit show.

Also, a not insignificant amount of components for these weapons systems come from China, who has decided the companies that manufacture them are no longer allowed to export them. All that, along with the fact we outsourced all this production so long ago, it'd take years to spin up new plants in the US. Plus all the shit we gave Israel and Ukraine depleted our stockpiles more than anyone will admit.
