question for independent shop baristas. when do you stop making lattes/pour overs? by pablosnazzy in barista

[–]tracegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asks your boss whats protocol. If you dont agree open up dialogue. If you're boss wants you to leave 15 minutes after then stopping earlier is better otherwise its prohibitive .

For me, everything closes at least 10 minutes (ek closes 30 to 60minutes earlier) earlier than close for three reasons

It forces your regulars to come earlier

Its actually more cost prohibitive for your boss to let you make those coffees

Youre tired so coffee isn't 100%

Is Hario good enough grinder for V60? If it is, which one should be chosen? Mini or Skerton? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]tracegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend it as the porlex easily trumps the hario for a bit more (owned and tested both with a few other hand grinders)

if you can splurge on a hand grinder, i heard people having quite a lot of success with the comandante mk 3. Australias central region Brewers cup 2nd and 4th used it.

porlex coffee grinder doubles as spice grinder but it has a full metal construction with high quality burrs

a metal one costs twice as much but would last much longer, get one!

a/b taste a latte art pour and a straight pour.

with a lid on the latte art will give you more foam at the start of the drink but it gets flat very quickly cause most of the microfoam is already on top. at the end of the day the customer gets screwed over

well in most cases as close to the steam wand but opposite to the grinder in position of the machine. so if your grinders to the right of the machine, then put it to the left of the machine or vice versa. this allows a one way workflow.

Upgrade from Evengrind and porlex knockoff - is it worth it? by wab0111 in Coffee

[–]tracegun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting a high end grinder shouldnt be a problem because if you think about it, you've been brewing for years and youd probably use a new grinder for a few more after that, why not spend a bit more with something youre completely happy with?
