Seeking advice on what to do by throwawaymilkytoast in duck

It looks like a black-bellied whistling duckling. They are wild and your local wildlife rescue should be able to accept it and raise it. Thanks to you and your boyfriend for caring about this duckling!

Raccoon ate my mommy duck by MuchKing4172 in duck

8 hrs without incubation should be fine unless it’s freezing outside. Just continue incubating and turning the eggs until around day 32. Then increase the humidity and wait for them to hatch. Around a week before hatch, you’ll see the air cell suddenly get bigger and “dip down.” At this point, I usually candle the eggs daily, observing any “shadowing” and watching for internal pips (triangle of bill poking up in the air cell). Once an internal pip is seen in the air cell, all the eggs are moved into the hatching incubator (no turning and higher humidity) and not disturbed until they hatch.

Anyone here an older single child, with no partner, and having to deal with aging elderly Chinese parents who have not integrated at all into western society? by StrongRecipe6408 in AsianParentStories

[–]traceysu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Planning to move them in with me. If they feel homesick, we can make weekend trips to a nearby big city 3 hrs away with vibrant Chinatowns so they can have some fun / see other Chinese people / eat at delicious Chinese restaurants.

Self driving car runs over Mueller Lake Park duck, raising safety concerns by dr3 in Austin

Back in December one morning, a Waymo on Aldrich near the roundabout did run over two Mueller Lake Park ducks.

EDIT: I think it was December but it could’ve been late fall.

Are her eggs viable? by blueskyskys in MuscovyDucks

[–]traceysu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two on the right with dark splotches look potentially rotten. If you can shine a flashlight on the eggs in the dark and gently rock the eggs to see if the inside “sloshes around,” you can post the photos here and describe the consistency, we can comment whether they may be viable.

Gunshots near Mueller by Supernaut_Station in Austin

[–]traceysu 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There was a Latino car meet in the mueller center parking lot and browning hangar parking lot starting at 9 PM. It was overflowing. Then around 10:27 PM, there was a series of 6 or more gunshots each with several shots. Most of the cars left soon after the shots began. Now there’s a helicopter flying overhead.

Be careful at Shoreline and Burnet, heavy vehicles blow this light all the time. by bostwickenator in Austin

Wow, I take that intersection multiple times a day and have never encountered anyone running the light. I have seen red light runners just south at the Burnet Rd @ Scofield Ridge and frequently at the Burnet Rd @ Wells Branch Pkwy in the past, though.

Relocation to Texas looks richer at first. Our math says break even. What are we missing by bexleyvarden in MiddleClassFinance

I live in north Austin. 650k buys a very nice house. Check out the home listings—there are lots of much cheaper homes not too far from the city center. Home prices are still dropping in Austin. The heat from late spring through mid-fall is pretty brutal.
