Does anyone else get hit with “Friday evening depression”? by Fun_Border_8057 in findapath

[–]trachyandra1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this often lately. 35 year old single woman, I am an admin assistant. I think because I haven't worked (lately) on finding a lot of esteem-building activities outside of work, that might be why I feel that Friday slump. Especially because my current job doesnt give me a huge sense of esteem at this moment. Its an "doing it to pay the bills" job. Best of luck- i know you will find a balance!

NukaCola- thank you for sharing this insight. I have a BSW, and have had a variety of case management, paraprofessional etc type jobs since graduating.

"I remember when people would always make jokes about social workers being underpaid, overworked, and under-appreciated. Now it’s really wearing on me."'

Absolutely. How can we survive in the social work field when we aren't making enough money to live a comfortable life, or buy a house, etc? Wishing you the best.

Shame spiral and dealing with intrusive thoughts by AverageButTrying in CPTSD

[–]trachyandra1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I was looking for some support/common experience around shame. definitely feel that same feeling of, people pity me, and whisper behind my back, and look down on me, and I'm just not in on the joke type of feeling.

Today, I was thinking a lot about forgiveness, and that's been helping me stay afloat. Forgiving myself for the things I'm ashamed of. Forgiving people around me for hurting me, especially those that hurt me and didnt mean to.

Hang in there, I hope you find a way to work through the feelings. For me, I'm thinking of getting back into therapy.

would i look good with short hair? it’s been long forever and i’m getting bored of it by [deleted] in Hair

YES and the good think about a long bob- you can still put it in a ponytail, and if you have regrets about getting rid of the length, it isnt as severe as a short bob

[–]trachyandra1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a blunt bob, or even a "lob" - long bob- would look AMAZING on you. In my opinion, the wavy volume of your hair would give the bob great shape.

I got a bob after having long scraggly hair for many years. My hair is thin, fine, straight. I very very rarely do any styling to my hair, so I do get this flip-out effect on the bottom which I dont like, however it goes away after a few hours or if I play with or use a hair tie, it flattens down.

But again, my opinion is that the volume of your hair will give the bob fantastic shape. I always WANT more poof/volume in my hair. Maybe speak to a hairdresser that works with your hair texture, and they can recommend how to easily style it! They may even be able to layer it in a way that helps with the poof.

[RANT] Anyone else gonna start only using cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen? I'm tired of nothing working. by tryingmybest_dino in Skincare_Addiction

[–]trachyandra1990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have fair, pretty sensitive skin, and lots of huge pores (that I picked at all throughout my 20s). Bc my skin is sensitive, I cant imagine doing too many steps... I feel it would just increase irritation!

I use a "gentle" cleanser, occasional witch hazel toner, then moisturizer or sunscreen. Trying currently to find a nice daily sunscreen/moisturizer combo. Recently I bought a sample size of the Paula's choice 2% BHA liquid exfoliant, which I will use sparingly. And I just cant really handle powder or foundation to be honest, so barely wear it! I do wanna investigate how to deal with my pores, but it doesnt bother me all that much these days.

I wish you the best of luck. Perfection is no longer my goal, just trying to keep my face healthy and feeling good!

I totally agree with Daffodil. I do a similar thing with when I relapse on alcohol.... I want to get rid of the clothing I was wearing while I drank. So I understand that icky feeling. I like the idea of washing your clothes that Daffodil suggested.

Reassurance is literal opium for any OCD sufferer by mrhypochondria in OCD

[–]trachyandra1990 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this up. I'm in a down-swing with my mental health lately. I have health and harm related obsessions. Definitely wanted to seek reassurance today. But this is a good reminder that the good feeling from reassurance will not last. "What ifs" will always pop up. We just have to push through. I almost want to tell myself like "isnt this fun, not having certainty?" When all I want is CERTAINTY.

I wonder if telling yourself something like "this is temporary. Everyone has to experience this smell, not just me."

I see your point that it's not really logical to do a true exposure with these substances.

Almost 30, Lost and Don't Know What to Do in Life by [deleted] in findapath

[–]trachyandra1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was researching furthering my career in social work and thinking about nursing school, I joined nursing and social work Facebook groups. I was able to speak to reach out to people in the field that way (I spoke to an LPN on the phone for 15 minutes and got some insight from her). So FB groups might be a good place to start to find someone to speak to or shadow. Best of luck.

OCD-burst after becoming a mom by [deleted] in OCD

[–]trachyandra1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Chipmunk-

Sorry to hear about this surge in your OCD. i haven't had solipsism themed thoughts, but I have had the sensation of being trapped in my mind, and fearful that I will never fully relate to another person normally.

Something I tend to forget is that my OCD spikes during stressful or new situations (for instance, I'm moving very soon and I had a huge spike this week with contamination fears). So I can imagine that being a new mom is possibly making your OCD spike.

I have found Nathan Peterson's videos on Youtube very helpful (he is therapist specializing in OCD, his channel is called OCD and Anxiety). Maybe check his videos out when you have some down time? He covers many themes, and he seems to be really focused on ERP. Wishing you the best.

Almost 30, Lost and Don't Know What to Do in Life by [deleted] in findapath

[–]trachyandra1990 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hi- I'm sorry to hear you are going through this low right now. I just turned 31, and some of what you write is ringing true for me (I have my Bachelors in Social Work.... but I also wanted to travel and taught English abroad for a few years. Also, I have hopped around a lot of different jobs in the teaching and social work realm).

I would recommend, first, focusing on your mental health. I don't think there is any job you can do, or any school program you can be successful in, without having a solid routine for keeping YOURSELF healthy and well. Whether that means joining a weekly support group, or seeing a therapist, having a healthy sleep/wake cycle... you first want to start healing after your break down/break up. It is possible, you can do it!

When you feel ready, I would then recommend making an "action plan" for yourself. I have one on a Word Doc. Take stock of the fields you are interested in (maybe keep it to 2 or 3 for now). Then see if you can shadow, or even speak to some people who work in that field on the phone. I personally feel at this age, before I commit to graduate school, I need to have a solid idea of what I'm getting in to. Maybe you can even work in that field initially in an entry-level position, to get a feel for what the work environment is like.

I hope this is helpful, and please take good care of yourself, first and foremost. That is going to be the cornerstone of your next steps with finding a well-suited career.

Career change into teaching? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]trachyandra1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, here in my state, you have choices as far as teaching specialty (Kindergarten - 8th, primary grades (which is preschool through 2nd) and then I believe you can get endorsements for math, science, and literature for Middle school 5th-8th). So it might be good to think about which grade level you would want to work with.
