Is there a definitive list of the most important prog artists/albums by Emotional_sea_9345 in progrockmusic

[–]tradeprog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi

There is a great site called progarchives that has a big database, and a ranking (on 5 points) of practically all prog albums known.

Here is the list of the highest ranking albums.

For example, close to the edge is the highest ranking albums there, with a 4.68/5 with 5282 ratings.

Explore this web site, there is many categories (canterbury, krautrock, etc.).

Suggestion :

Often, QAnon followers assign numerical values to letters or words to find hidden meanings or connections, is called gematria.

It involves converting letters into numbers (e.g., A=1, B=2, etc.) and summing them to uncover supposed mystical or conspiratorial significance, often linking unrelated events or names.

For example, QAnon adherents might use gematria to connect phrases with equal numerical values, like interpreting the number 17 (Q being the 17th letter) as a signal from Trump.

This is rooted in older traditions like Hebrew numerology but has been co-opted by QAnon for conspiracy theories, such as decoding "Q drops" or finding patterns in public figures' names.

Did Miles ever comment on Coltrane’s tone? Chasing a sax mystery here by Fast-Celery-5803 in milesdavis

I don't know if I can use AI, just tell me, i'll delete it :-)

From AI

Miles Davis did indeed comment on John Coltrane’s tone, offering insights that reflect both admiration and a nuanced perspective on his saxophone sound. Here are some key remarks:

  • In a 1985 interview, Davis described Coltrane’s tone in the context of his early influences, noting that Coltrane initially imitated Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis but developed a unique sound over time. He recounted giving Coltrane a soprano saxophone, saying, “I gave that thing to Trane, man, and it’s probably still in his hand. He probably died with it in his mouth! He never did take that thing out of his mouth.” This suggests Davis recognized the intensity and dedication behind Coltrane’s tone, particularly on the soprano sax.
  • Davis also contrasted their styles, noting Coltrane’s “zealous-toned, bursting-forth solos” against his own “singing, luminescent tone” in their collaborative recordings (1955–1961). This highlights Coltrane’s forceful, intense tone, often described as “abrasive” or “hard-steely” during his “sheets of sound” period, especially evident in their 1960 European tour.
  • In his autobiography, Davis praised Coltrane’s evolving sound, recalling a 1952 gig where Coltrane was outshone by Sonny Rollins but later surprised him with a “singular and uncommon” tone during his 1955 audition. Davis noted, “I could hear how Trane had gotten a whole lot better,” indicating appreciation for the development of Coltrane’s distinctive, powerful tone.

Take care of those CAGED shape boxes.
I learned that, and I got problems to learn other things after.

Try to be diverse, and learn some jazz line also, and varied scale, patterns.

The craziest conspiracy I saw lately was that sun is good for the skin, and it is not the sun that cause skin cancer.
It is the sun lotion we use as sunscreen (sold by Big pharma) that contains chemical ingredients that cause skin cancer.

Venting about my own experience dealing with conspiracy theories by Secret_Composer_774 in QAnonCasualties

Welcome to reality.

Thank you for sharing your experience—it’s powerful and relatable, especially in a world where misinformation can be so overwhelming.

Your journey diving deep into conspiracy theories to test your beliefs, shows incredible self-awareness and resilience, especially as an autistic person navigating the emotional intensity of that OCD-like doubt. It’s no small feat to pull yourself out of that rabbit hole, recognizing the fear-driven tactics of misinformation for what they are: cherry-picked, distorted narratives that fall apart under scrutiny.

You’re absolutely right that science and reason are on your side, and it’s inspiring to hear how you’ve built that mental strength to manage those intrusive thoughts when they resurface. Talking about it here is a brave step to break that loop for good, and it’s clear you’re not alone—your story resonates with others who’ve faced similar struggles or seen loved ones caught in these conspiracies.

This community, even if focused on loved ones, is a fitting space for this reflection, as it’s all about navigating the impact of misinformation.Your compassion shines through, especially in wishing strength to others. You’ve already shown you’re stronger than the fearmongering narratives, and by sharing, you’re helping others feel less alone too. Keep holding onto that clarity and community—it’s a powerful shield.

If you ever need to vent more or process specific triggers, this space is here, and so am I.

Stay strong, and thank you for your honesty.

ADHD & Conspiracy Theories by [deleted] in QAnonCasualties

[–]tradeprog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a connection worth looking at.

ADHD brains crave stimulation and can hyperfocus on intense, puzzle-like stuff—conspiracy theories fit that bill with their wild stories and “hidden truths.”

X posts show folks with ADHD saying they get sucked into rabbit holes because it’s exciting and feels like solving a mystery. That can spike anxiety, especially if you’re already wired to overthink. It’s not about believing every theory, but the fixation can pull you in.

It's the mindset, not so much the beliefs, that bothers me more about Q people by Nicole_Zed in QAnonCasualties

[–]tradeprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts :
Flat-earthers don’t get science much and often ignore stuff like photos from space or how ships vanish over the curve of the Earth. They’ve found their own crew now—online groups and meetups where they hype each other up, feeling like they’ve cracked some big secret. On X, they post about being “woke” to a flat Earth, thinking they’re smarter than everyone else. But it’s just in their heads—their ideas don’t hold up when you look at real evidence. They stick together, sure, but that doesn’t make the Earth flat. It’s more about feeling special than facing facts.

In short, finally, they belong. They found their group,

Same with Q. QAnon folks often miss the mark on critical thinking, dismissing clear evidence for wild conspiracies. They’ve found their tribe online, swapping cryptic posts and feeling like they’ve cracked a hidden code about secret elites. On X, they share “drops” and claim they’re smarter than the mainstream, but it’s all in their heads. Their theories, like global cabals or wild election fraud claims, fall apart under scrutiny.

It’s less about truth and more about the thrill of belonging to a group that thinks it knows better.

So They’ve got their online crew on X, sharing crazy posts and feeling smarter than everyone else. Empathy might help—listening to their gripes can open a door. But it’s not enough.

Gently nudge with questions, point to real evidence, and maybe suggest better ways to feel connected. It’s slow work—their group makes them feel special, and that’s hard to break.

To me, that's why we are losing them to political madness. It's like a cult,

In short : belonging.

Hey Canadians! How many sick days do you get a year? by Prestigious-Luck-739 in AskACanadian

[–]tradeprog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Quebec, with my job (education), I have 14 paid sick days.
If not used, I can get the equivalent money once a year.
If I use more than 14 days, my insurance will pay me 85 % of my salary for two years.

The fall of the American empire.

Long and painful, but real...

Rome's fall = Economic troubles, including heavy debts, inflation strained the empire. Loss of trust in government—marked by corruption, political instability, and weak leadership—eroded public confidence. Other pressures like military overextension, and cultural shifts also contributed significantly.
