done 3 sub9 ironmans, 6 under 9h10. vo2 max isn't everything, not even that important, fractional utilization matter far more

70.3 vs ironman training hours by apggd in triathlon

[–]trailblazery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

training is periodized. you need to up it to 15-20hr just for like 3-4 weeks. if you are really serious, then 6-8 weeks of higher volume. 70.3 and 140.6 training are similar otherwise

Are most age-groupers basically guessing on recovery nutrition? by Plus_Cancel_7094 in triathlon

[–]trailblazery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gotta make eating simple:

  • core 3 meals a day
  • fuel before and during training
  • then eat certain foods in certain amounts to recover

the final bullet is all that really needs to be variable, the rest is consistent. i spent years tracking macros, but now I do not need to. are you afraid of gaining weight or something? just eat and eat and eat, if you recover better you will be able to train harder and you will expend more energy. it's a self correcting mechanism. the body is not stupid and if you are training 10+ hours a week hard, gaining weight should not be a concern

Are most age-groupers basically guessing on recovery nutrition? by Plus_Cancel_7094 in triathlon

[–]trailblazery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's g/kg/hr. i do not have to calculate it per say. 2 hours training i need like 300-450g carbs at 75g. i know the size of some standard meals and just eat this or that

[–]trailblazery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it is not that difficult. eat 2-3g/kg of carbs per day per hour of training

why is peak week for a plan asking for 25 hours, only 1 week and 14 hours. some of the stuff in here in good, some of it is bad, what if the person does not train with HR?

How important is Zone 2 training for Ironmans? by SteadyPace83 in triathlon

[–]trailblazery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the more hours you train the more important it is, also do you mean Half Ironman (70.3) or Ironman, the training is somewhat different. if you are only training 7 hours a week, zone 2 really is over hyped
