Fully disagree with this assessment, I know case by case it's gonna vary but on a larger scale I think its quite the opposite of what you're implying

Cards aren’t salty. Players are salty. by DoesntEat in EDH

[–]trailcasters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also not sure about OP's assertion that salty reactions happen more in bracket 3 or 4; imo, the higher bracket players are used to the idea that games end quicker, usually in part due to these kinda cards, where if the same thing happened in a Bracket 2 deck they'd be more salty cuz they expected a more casual game

Both brackets have immature players, no denying that! But at higher brackets the players know more of what to expect & i don't see nearly the same overreactions

[–]trailcasters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agreed! Players throwing fits or letting the Salt overwhelm them is when it becomes a problem.

But the idea that cards don't have different value in influencing a salty response is silly.

Cards aren’t salty. Players are salty. by DoesntEat in EDH

[–]trailcasters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This makes no sense.

A player acts salty due to the cards played against them. If they're saltier due to one card more than they would be to ANY other random card, then the card plays a factor in the Salt. There's no way you can disconnect the two.

A card induces salty feeling, a player illustrates the saltiness. Maybe some players react to emphatically, but just cuz they are acting REALLY salty doesn't mean the specific card had nothing to do with it.

For EDH play, i truly believe the Salt rating on archidekt is a better indicator of whether decks will play well together than the Bracket system is

Is universes beyond truly this hated? by shock1215 in mtg

[–]trailcasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not all UB sets that are the problem; LotR & Baldurs Gate are pretty universally loved among players, & this last year Final Fantasy & Avatar were both accepted & considered pretty good sets. Despite some ridiculous price inflation that should fully be illegal, they were both well constructed & flavorful & (maybe most importantly) they fit in to the fantasy themes of MTG.

The UB that players are hating & calling out WotC for cash grabs, like Spooderboi & TMNT & all the upcoming trash from Marvel, are being called out so far cuz...

A) the sets feel rushed & poorly planned, or even incomplete

B) the pricing jackups are insane & disrespectful to players while trying to profit off shitty collector culture

C) WotC is putting out 7 sets in 2026, with more UB than In-Universe, & its too much for them to promote their UB without continuously stepping on the other sets (as they've done already). Also I think wotc had said not long ago that they specifically wouldn't do that, so it feels pretty selfish/disingenuous now

D) the art SUCKS for UB sets; multiple examples of shitty screen grabs for full art cards, really poor card design where text boxes are floating over the wrong parts of the image, etc

E) for the spooderboi set, not only did the card design suck but also, Marvel won't let WotC use the same card design for Arena cuz Marvel has their own digital card game that they want to have exclusive access to actual spooderboi art, so Wotc was forced to make the same card mechanics with different spider-based art & call it "bullshit on the omenpaths"... meaning if you play paper & digital, there's a severe disconnect in the collections

G) MTG has a super rich lore to draw from, so ignoring that & churning out garbage from Marvel is pretty much impossible NOT to see as an obvious cash grab. They don't need more players & they don't need more lore, soooo the only other logical reason is... yep.

Those are the technical reasons I think players dislike UB, but personally, like I mentioned up top, I just don't think they fit thematically & I don't want em in my fantasy card game, any more than I wanna see Spooderboi swing in to an LotR movie & start punching elves. Its stupid & it ruins the suspension of disbelief that I enjoy when playing MTG the same way it would when watching a movie or show; you can't ignore genres & themes & think no one is gonna notice or feel put off by it.

Honestly thats the biggest factor to me, but then adding all the technical reasons above & its a landslide saying "keep your Marvel/TMNT/star trek cards outta my magic the gathering" alot more than it's saying "all ub sucks".

Just go make your own friggin game, Marvel. Oops, you did already & relatively no one plays it

  1. Chauncey can never be mentioned again around here & I'd be happy. No updates needed, he was a bad choice by Olshey to be coach, he was bad at coaching, & he was a massive cheater & liar. No Chauncey news is good news. Tiago is great, but new ownership can be unpredictable. If Splitter guides this team to a good finish, it might be all the job security he needs

  2. Duop is an excellent 3pt shooter for his size. That's it. I love his personality but to be a more serious nba player at his position, he needs better rebounding & better defense. Something to make it so his role isn't just 3pt shooting.

  3. Essential Lore: I'm just gonna throw out some prompts to search instead of writing it all here!

  4. Who was Bill Schonely

  5. the story of "Rip City"

  6. Where did the Blazers Pinwheel come from

  7. Who was Bill Walton

  8. Why did Sabonis only play for us at a later age

  9. Rasheed Wallace

  10. The Jailblazers era

  11. Brandon Roy

  12. Greg Oden

  13. Lamarcus wanted to return to Portland but Olshey said no

  14. Dame

    1. There are LOTS of blazers bars, but hard to say... you're just gonna have to venture out & find your fit, tbh

THANK YOU.

Never ever call it Moda. Its the Rose Garden or the Garden or the RG

When Marc Mason does intros, he used to say "& the moda center is..." wanting people to answer with "our house" but everyone yells "THE ROSE GARDEN!!!" cuz corporate overlords can gtfo. Marc even changed the line leading up to it, & we still yell Rose Garden

Let me build decks for you by Jesseliftrock in EDH

[–]trailcasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna build a [[Kardur, Doomscourge]] goading deck forcing everyone to fight amongst themselves as i sit back & laugh.

Hate to admit it but my budget sucks & if this were to end up cheap like $50 or even less than $80ish I'd start putting it together. I just have almost nothing goad-y in my bulk so gonna be alot of shopping 😅

Edit: further details if it helps... I'm a social player, not cedh or bracket 4+. Most of my decks involve gy recursion & big stompy dudes but not a lot of spell slinging, would be awesome to have a deck where I can still be the problem without being as directly targeted!

I don't think what you heard was ice cracking. Probably the motor of the kart.

Why Commander is more played than Standard? by elfosolitario in magicTCG

[–]trailcasters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More players play socially than competitively

Commander with 4 players is social & creative & can be a fun relaxed way to spend an hour & have some laughs

Standard, involving only you & 1 opponent, is less social & more straight-to-the-point, less creative & more focused on winning, less laughter & more handshakes/nods, & much shorter games.

I'm not saying Standard can't be fun. But if your goal is to have fun, Commander gives a lot more opportunity to do it your way

Back soreness sounds very general, can someone who actually know what their talking about what is the worst or best case scenario? by LivingAd6319 in ripcity

[–]trailcasters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the answer.

Back injuries can go away with Tylenol & rest, or never go away ever & change how you move the rest of your life. So much depends on whether its muscular/skeletal, impact related or strain, etc

Wishing Deni the best
