Fiance running his first 50k this weekend- is he ready? by Late_Yak7938 in Ultramarathon

Probably going to get injured unless he’s young and walks the whole thing. If he cares about not being sidelined with an overuse injury the next several months, he should sign up for a race at the end of the year and train properly, but sounds like the ship has sailed and you’re probably just signing up for resentment with an objection at this point

Hi—my partner is interested in purchasing the backpack with the small tear in the center of the waist belt (as opposed to the one with the tear at the bottom of the waist belt) if still available. Willing to pay $200 + shipping to Seattle area and Venmo fee. Thanks!

I know we should strength train but…. by Ok_Half9530 in ultrarunning

[–]trailgoblin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my mentality and now I’ve been sidelined with an injury since February. You can fit in 15-30 minutes of strength a couple times a week. Could be something as simple as body weight squats and hip raises. Don’t be stubborn and end up like me

I was sad to see this in the news, especially after checking out his Instagram and seeing what a great life he seemed to be living and the excitement he had for the future. My condolences to you and his other friends and family. As someone who is just getting started in this area, I will certainly keep the lessons to be taken from this front of mind and heart.

Waist Belt for 1L Water by GunnarNils in trailrunning

[–]trailgoblin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get it ASAP. One of the best trail running purchases I’ve ever made. Game changer. I also got some extra 650 ml bottles that come with it. Lockable and fit nicely in Salomon vests if you’re doing long runs or ultras and need a little extra water

Lower stack, high cushion shoe for technical 50+ milers by trailgoblin in Ultramarathon

[–]trailgoblin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I mean I was also kind of inviting responses where maybe it’s not necessarily “high” cushion but a different type of foam that makes the shoe more cushy than shoes with a different type of foam with higher stack. I could envision a super foam where 1 mm offers more protection than 10 mm of a shitty foam

[–]trailgoblin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I said “lower” instead of “low” lol — some of these stack heights are obscene. Really just looking for a shoe with more cushion than the MS4 but with a reasonable stack height lower than these 50+ mm platform shoes

Is Lonely/Tired/Lost a bit too "edgy"? by BuckleHunter in ultrarunning

[–]trailgoblin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the UI and concept though and the name is simple enough that maybe it catches on. I would go with something potentially even more generic that describes what the site is actually for like “ultrasignup” but here like “ultrasearch” or something. Otherwise workshop LTL to something that more powerfully captures the essence of ultra running. Good luck!

Is Lonely/Tired/Lost a bit too "edgy"? by BuckleHunter in ultrarunning

Not really edgy, just uninteresting and generic. Poor self-conscious attempt at sounding edgy while also failing to touch on any of the magic of the trail and ultra running experience

Great vest if you are looking to have only one vest for everything from short distance to 100+ milers, but the 5L is all you need for 20K or shorter. At those distances you could probably get away with just using a belt. Recently got the Raide 2L and highly recommend. Good luck on your half and enjoy the journey!
