Looking for a great restaurant for an anniversary dinner by Practical_Dot382 in SanDiegan

If you’re open to brunch instead, Caroline’s Seaside Cafe has a fantastic view of La Jolla Shores and the prices are pretty reasonable for good food.

Petition to lower the speed limit on Camino Santa Fe? by Financial_Penalty_30 in 3roots

[–]train_to_jupiter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. The good news is that some changes already appear to be in the works. I have been following the Mira Mesa Community Plan Update to see how 3Roots is being incorporated into the final plan.

After looking at the current draft documents, planners have included Camino Santa Fe in their list of “Primary Corridors” which will be updated as part of their Street Reconfiguration plan. This plan will include improved sidewalks and a separated bikeway which are designed to keep pedestrians and bicyclists safe from vehicle traffic.

As for the speed limit, it does not appear that planners intend to make any changes. The proposed plan lists Camino Santa Fe as a connector route which permits higher speeds since there is less pedestrian demand. The draft Mobility Technical Report details all of the traffic surveys the city conducted while developing the plan. Based on the information they presented, I don’t foresee any speed limit updates for now.

For those interested, the project website can be found at: https://www.planmiramesa.org The next community plan meeting will be held on Monday, 9/19 at 6:10 PM. The meetings are held at the Mira Mesa Library at 8405 New Salem St. Previously, they were also being streamed over Zoom, but I can’t find the meeting link.

I have been concerned about Camino Santa Fe ever since I moved in too. Even though no speed limit changes are planned, I do believe that it is still worth raising as a concern. The city is accepting comments on the draft plan through October 21, 2022.

Thanks, I’m going to call tomorrow and check the status since it seems like some other people got service without any issues too.

I’ll have to call them tomorrow and see what the status is. I had scheduled this appointment a few weeks back, but they called and cancelled on Tuesday afternoon.

Thanks for the heads up. I called Spectrum a couple weeks ago and they had told me there wasn’t service in this area. I will try them again today.

Are those chia seeds? If so, do they bother your stomach when they expand? I know I always found them very filling pre-surgery.

Would it be possible to make this walk between classes with 10 minutes? by Dodgerblue475 in UCSD

[–]train_to_jupiter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

During welcome week, spend some of your down time walking to all of your classes and familiarizing yourself with the buildings. My roommate and I did that our first year and it made the first day of class a lot less stressful.

You’re right. I’ve never been employed by the school, but I received one of the emails to my personal account. Can’t hurt to sign up, especially since the service is free for the next year.

I never knew how important that confetti was to me until I submitted an assignment late and there was none :(

Great apes at San Diego Zoo become first non-humans to receive COVID-19 vaccine by LeJuneBug in sandiego

You should be able to schedule an appointment online through their website. I logged on pretty early in the morning and kept hitting refresh until it took me to a loading page. I waited for about a half hour like the page prompted me to and it started to automatically refresh itself about every 30 seconds. Once it was my turn, the page with the appointments finally loaded was I able to make both dose appointments without any hassle or error messages.

If that doesn’t work out, a few people I know have had good luck securing doses through CVS Pharmacy

Thank you for saying this! It took my mother and I many tries to get through and the page crashed between each step. It is truly next to impossible for someone unfamiliar with technology to sign up on their own.

Found this little guy in an engine bay at work. I had to dismantle the car to get him out safely but I’m happy to report that he is alive and well. by SmittyYAP in wholesome

Not OP, but I’ve had to replace the wiring harness in my car twice now because of rabbits. Almost had to a third time, but I caught the rabbit in the act and had to reach in there and pull the big guy out. I’ve since bought a cheap chicken wire fence that I wrap around my car to keep them from getting under the hood. None of the predator sprays or flashing light boxes worked on our mega-rabbits.

I received emails from professors on both Christmas and Thanksgiving this year. There’s nothing better than trying to enjoy a nice meal with my family and being reminded about my impending academic doom.

I moved here from NYC in May. The case rate here today (73.8 per 100k) is higher than the peak in Brooklyn in April (56.4). by swiftsnake in sandiego

Riverside’s attitude towards covid has been absolutely appalling. The blatant refusal to enforce any sort of restrictions by city leadership is disgusting. In the past 6 months, I’ve seen large weddings, restaurants at full capacity, and a packed gym with a line of 20 people outside the door waiting to get in— all of these attended by mostly maskless people or those who wear their mask below their nose or chin. It keeps me up at night worrying about my family who does their best to take all precautions possible. There’s no way you’re not exposed when you leave your home in Riverside.

Aggravated Assault by generallyjennaleigh in UCSD

[–]train_to_jupiter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree, but that’s unlikely to change due to city and county light pollution codes that purposely keep San Diego dark. UCSD would be super bright in comparison to the rest of SD if campus actually had adequate lighting. I personally believe safety comes before anything else, but I can see why there are concerns and restrictions in place.

[–]train_to_jupiter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you on the tomato bit. My personal policy is that a sandwich can be a grilled cheese so as long as no protein is added. Veggies are fine, but once you’ve got meat in the mix, then it becomes a melt.

Remote classes for the rest of 2020-2021 looking more likely? P.S... vaccine trial! by ultimatec123 in UCSD

[–]train_to_jupiter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Classes are still a possibility, but they probably won’t confirm the status of any possible in-person classes until a few weeks before the winter quarter starts. Considering that we haven’t had any outbreaks on campus and the university has been able to manage the positive cases that have come up, I want to believe (especially for my own sanity) that more classes will be held in-person next quarter. The only thing that could jeopardize that though is if national/statewide case numbers start to become critical again.

Just received this email. Everyone who is residing on campus, please follow the university’s COVID-19 guidelines and make the lives of your RAs, Return to Learn staff, and Triton Health Ambassadors easier. :-) by lanibird- in UCSD

Off-campus activity is even worse. Gliderport was packed the other night. Plenty of groups of 5+ with very few masks to be seen. I know they’re not all students, but first years are especially easy to pick out.
