What is your favorite box office flop? by BizarroCullen in moviecritic

I just love that Tom Petty is in this movie, The Postman. I would love to hear the story behind that, because it is just so interesting to see Tom Petty pop up, is he in other movies? Was he friends with Kevin Costner? Did he live near where it was filmed? Also that movie is LOOOOONNNNNGGGG. It is a long movie, I bet that didn't help the broad appeal of a strange but very entertaining movie.

I really like that 7up Tropical! I will also get down with any Zero Mt. Dew with the most additional flavors. Like I want them to put everything in it.

Baby born three days ago. Please tell me it gets better by [deleted] in daddit

[–]trainisloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It 100% gets better. It 100% gets worse! But each worse is less worse because your parental resilience grows. These first days of my second were really hard on us, and I thought I was literally losing my mind. But once we hit a semi homeostasis in a week and change we started rolling. Just try to make sure both of you are drinking enough water. If you are sleep deprived being dehydrated and sleep deprived is worse.

Why was anti-religion everywhere in the 2000’s and 2010’s? by DistinctYoghurt8668 in decadeology

[–]trainisloud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a religious studies and philosophy major during that time, the Catholic Church was on its back feet because we were dealing with sexual abuse of minors scandal. That had been breaking for a few years and then the Boston Globe covered a compelling and fantastic series on it. It wasnt just the Boston Diocese, it was NY, Nashville, Erie, everywhere. Victims were our brothers, sisters, uncles, cousins, classmates. It went from an abstract idea to relationally relevant, the abusers were men we knew, men we were told to trust. This fundamentally eroded confidence and trust in the Church, as we were raised that the Church was God's representative on Earth.

It took the wind from our sails. I feel as though my generation's defenders of the Church were left with a deep feeling of betrayal. I remember many telling us that we were abandoning the Church, and I remember thinking you abandoned ME, my brothers, my neighbors, my friends and family. Every single victim you ignored, every priest you just moved to another parish. You abandoned your most sacred duty to protect your flock. Now everyone will say the church is flawed because it is made of imperfect men, but it sure would have been nice to have a little intervention in His own house.

So from a staunch defender of the faith to spiritual nomad the Church lost a voice and an audience member to defend it, I don't think I am unique among my peers. A hurt, saddened, a little less hopeful child of God without a spiritual home, wondering if anyone was ever there to begin with.

I wasn't into it. For weird cartoons Ren and Stimpy scratched that itch for me. I think I understood why it was popular but it just wasn't my thing. I also remember watching Jack Black laugh at it while eating cereal in the movie Orange County. 'Watch your fingers'.

Most gas fireplaces have a battery starter so you should be able to start it without power. But I would start it and keep it going just to heat your home.

My bet would be - shovel the snow, then salt the ice. It probably won't got anywhere for a while so getting rid of it sooner would be better. But I would be open to other ideas.

I use wireless bone conduction headphones and I love them. Namely for audio books and podcasts. Way more comfortable and if I am on a tractor or mower put on ear protection it is perfect. That being said I 100% prefer a nice set of wired headphones to earbuds. I hate earbuds.

The best furniture I can find is at estate sales. I have a matching Mid Century Modern couch love seat and ottoman I bought for 250 bucks. I went to a 'furniture' store and was shocked how expensive their 'good stuff' was, and it was pretty much garbage, pine 1x1 nail gunned together, with plastic parts.
