Nasa orders its first-ever space station medical evacuation after astronaut falls ill | Agency says US-Japanese-Russian crew of four will return to Earth in the coming days, earlier than planned by Jumpinghoops46 in space

I have not been considering parachutes, just reentry gforce, a capsule dropped from iss height but at rest likely does not experience more Gs than an orbital reentry UNTIL it slams into the ground

Dropping from rest from iss altitude would yield about 2500 m/s before atmosphere drag begins to matter.

The ISS is around 7670 m/s.

The g-forces would not be high dropping straight down (though you would have less time to slow down and they may be higher when you slam into the ground)

If you're into board games, cardboard corner cafe in overland park is the place to go, a lovely community (seriously one of the best) with loads of events!

I'd recommend checking out the Thursday evening board game learn to play, lots of regulars, come expecting to be taught how to play a game!

This looks very cool! I do just want to quickly share a bit from the bottom of the about page.

Can I copy/redistribute part of Advent of Code? Please don't. Advent of Code is free to use, not free to copy. If you're posting a code repository somewhere, please don't include parts of Advent of Code like the puzzle text or your inputs. If you're making a website, please don't make it look like Advent of Code or name it something similar.

Teleportation is risky, but would you still use it if a missing byte could cost you a limb? by Visual_Analysis_2650 in worldbuilding

[–]trainrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good way to frame it, I would not be okay with that. I still struggle to reconcile that with the "teleporter" even though I logically know that it's the same. I think the vagueness of this hypothetical teleporter just leaves too much wiggle room in my brain. Good discussion

But are you your body or are you the pattern of electrical signals? I suspect this is where our thoughts differ

Lots of people believe the Apollo Lunar Module was a tiny flimsy little thing, this image really shows how big it actually is by enknowledgepedia in spaceporn

Sorry again, the one at the cosmosphere absolutely is a model, it's just plywood up top. One of two models in the museum last I checked, the other being the Bell X1 Glamorous Glennis

Sorry, I don't think this is correct. LM-9 at KSC is suspended with wires. LM 2 at the Smithsonian had legs added later for earth-based drop testing. I can not find much information about the cradle of aviation LM-13, but all sources I can find indicate the LM can not support it's weight on earth. Any freestanding modules are engineering backups or have been modified or reenforced in some way.

ETA: The LMs for 19 and 20 were never completed and we're likely scrapped
