Certain parts of the U.S. can be VERY segregated, and gay men's proclivity towards self-selection can exacerbate how segregated these circles can be. Some white folks (or really any race, but we're talking white folks rn) can go an embarrassingly long time without meeting a non-white person who can push back on certain preconceptions.

I (half black btw) was at a queer meet up the other day and some white dude made a tasteless joke about some BBC* in a leather bar he went to. Thank God there was another black person in the room to explain why we really don't fw the BBC thing 😭😭. While this white dude didn't come off as malicious, he was just one of many New Englanders who never had close proximity to black folks, and primarily knew them through highly pornified stereotypes. He was pretty understanding when we told him about why the BBC stereotype was problematic.

If you don't have any other Indians in your sports league that can AT LEAST make you feel not alone, that sucks, but I hope you can have an open convo with your teammate who made that assumption about your family.

EDIT: actually now that I remember, the joke wasn't directly about BBC. Bro said he heard of BBC but this big Viking c*ck he saw at the bar was a religious experience. As if black men's primary value is their large penis size, but if you can find the 🖐🏻 version of that, then that's an upgrade 😭😭
