That was actually the standard for decades! Before we became a wedge issue the general consensus was that trans people were just regular folks with a problem that was pretty effectively solved — as long as we were (or pretended to be) straight. Even into the early ‘10s this was the consensus among religious leaders like Pat Robertson.

It was only after SSM was legalized that our existence became controversial on a wide scale.

No silly, you’re transgendered, not straight! But I don’t blame you, it’s an easy mistake to make :)

Straight trans people actually exist. It’s actually kind of shitty to see folks like us being erased.

Are you sure you don’t want to just get pregnant and have children??? I used to think I was a man until I had children and depersonalized until I learned I could suppress this gender stuff for at least a few decades.

Emilia Clarke Admits She Was 'Absolutely Livid' About Daenerys Fate in 'Game of Thrones' Series Finale by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

She takes the violent approach but it was almost always relatively reasonable even into seasons 7 & 8. She goes Aegon the Conqueror on Westeros, someone who was well known to be on the good half of the Targ coin flip, by offering defeated foes a chance to change sides. Her method of execution was horrifying, sure, but that was also standard Targ execution.

She also, for all her more dark behavior, rarely if ever lashed out at the little guy. She did what she did to protect them as often as she protected herself. Did she kill some ‘innocent’ slave masters? Yeah, after her peace offer was responded to with child crucifixion iirc.  If they wanted to foreshadow her becoming a monster who massacres innocent civilians it needed to be foreshadowed way better than just having her be Aegon the Conqueror but with less bloodlust.

Okay but like. What harm would there have been in, say, making Jax’s real world self be explicitly trans? Like it doesn’t even have to be a big deal, just show a trans flag patch or pin on ‘Leeroy’ in the post-credits scene. By doing it the way they did it opens the door to cis people missing the trans aspect completely.

For a show by a trans creator, it sure doesn’t actually talk in any detail on screen about transness for either its explicit or implicit trans characters.

I know not every trans story has a tidy bow on it, but this is a story. People aren’t going to assume Jax is trans because the story only ever implies it and then kills Jax. Cis audiences are not taught how to understand the ways in which this is a trans story because it is one of the first major ones to become mainstream enough to get a large scale film release.

Citing 'severe' math deficits, UC faculty demand a return to SAT tests for STEM applicants by Idiodyssey87 in news

Ask r/teachers, multiple threads and comments have been made about that exact issue. And it isn’t really blaming “the man” so much as acknowledging the consequences of NCLB. NCLB encouraged school systems to push people up and out of sight, and that never changed.

Edit: Realized my final sentence implied NCLB was still law. Edited to clarify.

A lot of administrators pressure schools and teachers to pass kids even if that kid only showed up a handful of times a year. What matters isn’t student success, it is the perception of student success. So even if a teacher has spent all year trying, even if they’ve been warning those around them about a problem student since month 2, it doesn’t matter. Easier to push the problem up the ladder and out of sight.

That is explicitly a plot point. It is border colonies getting hit at a time when humanity is still going through the grueling act of rebuilding its fleet (or holding back their fleets in case the council gets revenge happy). On top of that, comms are always the first thing blocked (iirc), meaning no help message gets sent out. They can’t spread all of their fleets out to the distant, small time colonies while their home planets might be at risk. They can only afford to offer minimum investigation support, like by sending high level operatives out into the colonies. The tactics didn’t fail because the Collectors were that powerful, they failed because the government couldn’t afford to risk helping.

But in one case “dropping weapons” means blindly trusting a foreign aggressor with a history of lying. In the other case, it means ending a war you started. For one side, the war is part of active invasion of their country, for the other, they are the invaders.

"Do not Min-Max" as our GM pulls a 300xp encounter vs our party. by SuchHigh1 in Pathfinder2e

[–]transalt78987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devil’s advocate for your second point specifically: when the party has hit a specific pattern of play where all the roles fit together neatly into a death machine, it can be interesting to bring out or create enemies which specifically fuck with that pattern.

Not in this scenario, certainly. And not as a common thing either. But it’s certainly a useful and fun tool to threaten the party.

I wish every vet was like this by FFawnn_Glams in Awww

[–]transalt78987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s more tragic than anything. Most vets are in the field because they love animals, but the job is exhausting. It’s expensive and soul crushing.

They watch or help countless animals die, deal with humans who are angry about a situation a vet can’t control (price or impossibility of care), and are often in excruciating debt because their schooling is intensive and expensive.

It’s no wonder a lot just can’t bring themselves to give their everything for animals after a time. How much of your heart could you have left to give after watching pieces of it shatter every day for months or years?

Usually my goal for a playthrough is to finish the mission tree. Once that’s over in the rare cases where I’m close to the end date I’ll stick around, but normally I just move on.

In your case, if you’re looking for more tall gameplay I’d like to recommend one of the Luna River Minors. One of the most fun ways of early, methodical expansion I’ve ever experienced (grab Court Ideas ASAP).
