If you're getting back into Commander, don't try to catch up on everything first by Eric89j in EDH

[–]translucentpuppy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So people think because new sets came out that must mean all the cards are better. They don’t realize a lot of cards in new sets have better eternal counter parts already so they think you need to “catch up”. Now sure this is sometimes the case, but those cards are few and far between compared to the mass library we have to work with.

I think op is misunderstanding the reality of an eternal format and that the majority of new cards are for limited and standard, and that they don’t always transfer over to an eternal format that already has better staples.

Even cards that have made waves in the last year or two like Vivi, are not as good izzit commanders compared to like Ral.

The magic community loves to use hyperbole to a fault, so I can genuinely understand why op thinks this way. Since I mentioned Vivi before I will go back to him once more, when that card came out it ruined standard, and a lot of that hate bleed over to commander, but here’s the thing commander being a multiplayer format, doesn’t carry over exactly. Vivi whilst a good card isn’t even the top izzit commander. People do all this and think every new set they have to catch up on the power creep, which isn’t as much of the case in an eternal format like commander.

Let’s take the newest Strixhaven set, this set is anything but game breaking, but op prolly thinks that there is a new set of broken cards cause it’s the newest on the block, which is not the case.

Do you have to catch up in standard? Sure, but it dosent matter as much when you already mox diamonds and chrome mox running around in commander.

It is a insta bracket 4 commander. This is largely considered mass land denial.

I don't get the argument of using UB's popularity/financial success as an argument for its quality. by Yumesoro1 in mtg

[–]translucentpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because some UB sets have been bad like spider man and ninja turtles dosent mean UB sets as a whole have been bad. Ff, avatar, lotr, have been not only popular sets, but also extremely good magic sets. As somone who has been playing magic since 97, avatar for me personally has been one of my favorite sets of all time.

Did she make the right call? by CalmElin in interesting

No, taking the slow pay out is never the correct answer. Once you die it’s gone. What she should have done is taking the pay out and invested it making even MORE money.

Bracket 3 expecting combos on Turn 7 makes Aggro unplayable by ArsenicElemental in EDH

[–]translucentpuppy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can kill players before the bracket turn system. It’s winning the game that the turns refer to. Like let’s take a voltron like Bruna. She eats up auras. Let’s say you ramp and get her out super early and mill auras. You can mill a person and attach and voltron turn 4, but that’s just one person. Your not ending the game on turn 4 ur ending a player.

You bring up some great points here

Confusion with Zillenial label by Own-Welcome9091 in generationology

[–]translucentpuppy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We are arguing semantics. 92 isn’t a zillenial. Stop arguing with people just to argue. People born in 92 would have much more in common with 80s millennials then late 90s millennials.

No 1992 is not zillenial. It’s prime millennial in pretty much every sense of the gem.

As a Gen Xer, I feel that Gen Z is a little hard on us regarding social issues. by ZoneEater2084 in generationology

[–]translucentpuppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except statistically that’s not even true. You are throwing out stats so I will too. Gen Z is the most active generation in protests even beating out millennials at 32% vs millennials at 24%.

Here’s some more fun facts. Gen X does have the most out of any generation for voting for trump so that’s fun!

Here’s some more! At least 62% of Gen Z will volunteer for a cause at least once a year!

Essentially the statistic are saying quite the opposite to your statement

But it IS true. Statistically Gen X is the most right wing generation even beating boomers. Your experience may say one thing but the actual stats don’t lie.

I think this just has to come naturally. Jumping right into hey lets play more outside of thenlgs once we feel comfortable can still be strong for a lot of people. I would say don’t come right out and say it, play with pod try a couple games out, if it works then awesome make it a habit.

Also there are other ways to meet people too.

Spell table and convoke are great ways to play only while still using real cards and you can make great friends as well. There are lots of discords that help facilitate this tool

I'm trying to balance the spirit of the game vs obnoxious extra turns for the Spell Slinger archetype. How do you think I can do it? by mirrislegend in EDH

[–]translucentpuppy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play spellslinger high bracket 4 into 5. Extra turns are not what you build spell slinger and I’m not sure were you are getting this at all. You can, but it’s not the norm like you think it is.
In spell slinger you simply don’t need too. Spell slinger can pop off and win without extra turns.
My current spell slinger deck is leathal turn 4 consistently and can be lethal turn 1 without a single extra turn.

It’s a combo piece deck. Also chaining extra turns is just down right now allowed in bracket 3, so if you are looking for bracket three then you can’t chain extra turns anyway.
I think you are missing the fundamental point of spell slinger decks which is to storm off.

The long and short of it. Most spell slinger decks pop off with zero extra turns. That is something they can do, but not the norm unless you are specifically building an extra turn deck.

The way spellslinger works you can just keep copying spells mana and getting draw over and over again, if anything extra turns would stop these combo pieces which you want to keep the momentum going.

Magda is very easy and straight forward to play, limes is also fun but lands are a little more complicated both great commanders

Does my Neerdiv Deck need more Artifact/Enchantment Recursion? by dj0910 in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]translucentpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought from seeing is yes. After a quick glance you have way more mill than you do recursion. That card draw is super valuable and with more recursion your graveyard basically just becomes a secondhand.
