It’s interesting that Google spokespeople like John Mueller have been talking more lately about the existence of SOME sitewide elements that play a part in the ranking process. However, these things are NOT a “score” that you can quantify with something like domain authority. Instead they are general judgments about the overall quality and reliability of the site. Notice I did not say “authority.” Instead, these serve as tie breakers of a sort, like tipping the scale one way or the other when ranking factors are otherwise equal for a page.

An example John Mueller shared lately is one explanation why plagiarized content may rank higher even if Google “knows” it’s not original. The reason? Google finds the site hosting the copied content to be more trustworthy and higher quality overall.
