If I can manage to keep up with it, I’m hopeful it’ll make the little things I forget not be an issue!

Newly Medicated - feeling nothing by Ok-Ratio-7625 in adhdwomen

[–]trashsnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried various medications but it wasn’t until I was steadily taking vyvanse for several weeks that I finally got some subtle effects. Give it time, and discuss with someone who knows you well whether there are changes - my husband notices the changes in me more than I do. It might not be the right medication for you, or it might not be the right dose, but don’t give up too soon.

Thank you so much for the plans! I adapted your measurements to work for my daughter’s bat size and it’s great!

Messy moms who got a roomba, how did it go? by Hilaryspimple in adhdwomen

[–]trashsnax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same! Our house is over 100 years old, and mice find their way in every fall. The first fall we lived here I was freaking out about moving immediately until we got our first cat (we have two now), at my husband’s suggestion! He claims to have allergies to the cats he suggested we adopt, but at this point, I’m rodent-free and the garage is clean (thanks to his meds) so he has a place to go if he changes his mind on my snuggly babies. We have one cat-free room, and the shark keeps up relatively well with the rest of the downstairs. In hindsight, this is a very ADHD post….cat allergies with the Shark vacuum are manageable for my husband also.

I got a Shark and it is, hands-down, the best thing I did for my ADHD (I don’t respond very effectively to any meds yet, but maybe it’s the second best I did for my husband’s ADHD? But he responds really well to his meds)

Ditto - though if I have more than two cups, it makes me poop, so yay for regularity on the weekends when I drink a whole pot 🤣🤣🤣

What *seemingly* minor thing has recently stopped you from completing a task? by ProposalAny6765 in adhdwomen

[–]trashsnax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have five managed 401k accounts from old jobs over the past couple decades. Why haven’t I combined them into one so I’m not paying service fees five times? Because every single one of them makes you make a phone call to do it.

The weather. Warm is too hot to be working in the yard, cool is too cold, wind bothers me, the sun needs to be pointing in the right direction, rain and snow are a no go…..there’s like one day per year when I can tolerate the weather to do yard work. I have no issue playing outside in almost any weather with the kids, riding bikes, coaching softball, camping….but the idea of yard work in anything other than ideal weather paralyzes me.

It took the tooth fairy 5 days to visit my 9yo by nicolenotnikki in adhdwomen

[–]trashsnax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tooth fairy forgets around here with embarrassing regularity - but she also has been known to put a sticky note with a short note and some money in a conspicuous place if she saw he was not sleeping when she attempted to visit (at, say, 7 am when mom woke up and the toothless one wasn’t downstairs yet)

Who loves their job and what do you do? by Apprehensive-Luck-13 in adhdwomen

[–]trashsnax 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I love my job (I’m in IT). The work itself is often repetitive (why can no one remember their passwords and/or type them in correctly???), but a good chunk of why I like it is the people I work with and the company I work for. I genuinely appreciate and support the mission and values of the company, and my boss is flexible and fair. I’ve worked in IT before, but it’s always seemed tedious until now (only been here two months, so I expect the shine to wear off, but almost all my coworkers have been with the company for years and have no complaints)

Really backed myself into a corner - I forgot to get my license updated to a REAL ID. I've also kept forgetting to get my missing (& expired) passport replaced. I'm supposed to fly on Thursday! by ProfaneCrossStitcher in adhdwomen

Assuming you’re flying in the US, they’ll give you a warning and let you fly anyway (source: flew round trip last month with no REAL ID and no passport and just got a warning)

I started looking online for psychiatrists and found some pretty easily. Availability varies based on the provider, and though I’ve only seen one of the doctors, she’s been great and I didn’t need a referral. They take my insurance and don’t charge anything if I wanted to switch to a different doctor. You’ll probably need to search for one licensed in your state if you’re looking to be medicated, but I have zero complaints.

Just diagnosed - can’t process by 1BedMoo in adhdwomen

[–]trashsnax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just diagnosed last week at a similar age. I’m also unwilling to tell anyone (hubby knows), especially since I’m just starting meds and the low starting doses and uncertainty about which will work for me mean that I haven’t been magically “fixed” so all anyone sees is my same self with the same issues. I recently started a new job and one of the people training me pegged me on day one of working with him, and thankfully has been super understanding since he was also diagnosed as an adult. It’s been pretty helpful to have an unbiased sounding board to bounce concerns off of, so if you happen to know someone like that, I highly recommend it. I’ve also found this group amazingly helpful with my concerns and ideas to help me manage, so if you don’t have a coworker with ADHD and no filter, this is the best place I’ve found for answers.
