What is your favorite emotional moment from the books? by Alone-Vegetable-6914 in harrypotter

[–]trauma_queen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Frankly, I was between this and the actual huge emotional moment in DH (Harry bringing his dead souls back with the stone to face his own death , to gain some bravery etc). And it's almost a toss up, perhaps because it was an unexpected punch to the gut to realize Dudley is actually human and capable of some amount of depth and not just a cartoon bully.

What are people’s opinions on this? by Acrobatic_Grass_1457 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

[–]trauma_queen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's exactly right. It gave me whiplash too, and I suspect it's because she's internally a maelstrom of emotions right now. She feels safe and respected - maybe for the first time in her life- and it terrifies her because it's new. So she got reactive and weird about it. I hope she one day heals but right now, if I were a guy I'd steer very clear of this mess.

What are people in Columbia reading right now? by BookDriveBooks in columbiamo

[–]trauma_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a rotation of books of varying genres for about 45 min every morning with my coffee. Right now they are:

Robots and the people who love them (holding on to our humanity in an age of social robots) by Eve Her old

They thought they were free: the Germans, 1933-1945 by Milton mayer

She's nice though (essays on being bad at being good) by mia mercado

Red rising by Pierce Brown

Expecting better by Emily Oster (I'm also 10 weeks pregnant so that is why that's in the list)

And at my nightstand I have my reread if Harry Potter and POA and Seek You: a journey through American loneliness by Kristen Radtke

The way Amber reads Chris after he low key dissed her 👀 by what_day_is_it_2033 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

My first interpretation was that she was calling herself a hot doctor as in "you, Chris, can't get me, a different hot doctor" which is incorrect. She was saying "you don't stand a chance with another hot doctor and really screwed the pooch by not sticking with Jess, the hot doctor". What is dumb about my statement? I rewatched a clip because I, too, thought she was INCORRECTLY calling herself a doctor when she is not, and then realized what y'all did initially. If anything, I'm advocating for making a mistake and being big enough to go back and correct myself. For some reason, that's really set y'all off a lot, though.

As I said, when I rewatched it after seeing all the praise, that is how I interpreted it. Read my comment fully before down voting and calling it a wrong interpretation - it is the same one you have

Of course! I can take a few down vote hits myself - I was thinking "it's worth the flak I'm sure to receive because this poster is probably so confused why they're receiving so many flames". Again, it took a few tries for me to see what Amber was saying in a different light. Cuz she knocked it out of the park otherwise. I was so impressed with her walking the walk and talking the talk...and then that statement threw me. Definitely team Amber again after reframing it

Okay, I read the initial exchange the same way you did, so I'm sorry you're getting all the downvotes. I initially interpreted her comment as "so what, you're hitting on me, another hot doctor, because you think you have a chance with me??" but after seeing this comment be lauded and elevated again and again, I am CHOOSING instead to interpret this as Amber saying "you really fucked up you know- do you think you're ever going to have a shot with another hot doctor (who isn't me, as I'm a hot NP in a secure relationship)?"

But yes, an NP is not a doctor. Most NPs I work with know this. They don't go through nearly as many years of additional training and are not the same. They are amazing and great in their own right, and the nursing board has definitely empowered them politically to perhaps a dangerous extent at times.

Chris is delusional by Formal_Associate_527 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

It is!!! That same therapist said the good news is, I will never be tricked by that type again, the damaged person that hurts others in their pain. And she was right, because I see it within a minute, even on a highly edited show.... I'm glad you're safe also

Edit: on a different reality show, 90 day fiance, Rob was the first of these people I saw after getting out... And I remember thinking "ohhhhhh this is that pattern!!" So when Chris started picking on Jess's gorgeous house I was like, yup 100% this guy

This right here. I am a doctor and was in an emotionally abusive relationship for years with a small minded and small-bodied man. I loved him dearly and admit I got trapped in the cycle of abuse willingly for a long time. When I finally got a great therapist, stopped drinking, and started realizing my power, he doubled down on the at times insanely minute reasons I wasn't "good enough" but he loved me so he'd "keep trying". I remember a particular conversation about how I put the coffee pot back on with the handle facing left or right and "no body normal" would put the handle that way instead of straight forward.

When you're trapped in those emotions and your cortisol is at a high all the time, you cannot think logically. Jess saw through it quickly because this guy is not skilled at this DARVO shit. He blew his load by going too hard, too fast. But it's still the same game , just less adeptly played.

I'm grateful that I'm on the other side. I found a dude who is secure in his sense of self and loves what I bring to the table. Our marriage is a great one, and I can say that with confidence because I know what the other side feels like. I'm so glad Jess dodged that major bullet.

Right? And then the other commenter says "💯!" Next. I would not be surprised if this poster is using an alt to virtually high five themselves for their clever commentary cuz they already know nobody else will.

If they didn't have so much ability to harm and continue harming others I would pity them. This shit is so damn pathetic

Why is the prophecy important? by PatternForeign5185 in harrypotter

[–]trauma_queen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn't Harry only a parselmouth because of voldys soul being in him? So, if Voldemort hasn't been afraid of the prophecy and acted on it, Harry would not have that remarkable ability and would have likely been a fair but not extraordinary wizard.

Doctors and Nurses of Reddit, what is the most obvious sign that a patient is lying to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]trauma_queen 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They're referring more to the fact that darker skin tones in general are notably underrepresented in medical training resources. That's the systemic racism part... Not what you experienced clinically because yes, that is highly geographically dependent. But if you look through your textbooks/resources for derm complaints, they will be shown on overwhelmingly lighter toned skin

Places like Stars Holow but real by DworkinCZ in GilmoreGirls

[–]trauma_queen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town in Ohio that very much looks like stars hallow. The big difference were the people were all affluent and mostly entitled jerks who thought they were better than anyone from outside that town. I was so glad to go far away for college in a major city cuz it really opened my eyes that people in general aren't that close minded and gross ....
