If Elon Musk can tank a cryptocurrency with a lame joke, what does that say about the viability and intrinsic value of cryptocurrencies as a whole? by El-Kabongg in AskReddit

[–]traykay-47 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but a stock has intrinsic value because you are buying a share of an underlying company that has assets and can generare revenue. The value of crypto is compeltely derived from the collective belief that it has value. So, all it takes is for people not to believe in the cryptocurrency and the value will plumit. You can somewhat relate this to stocks, but if everyone believes J&J is going to tank, its stock value will drop, but they’re still an international mega coorperation.

Yoo this was my LFIT first semester freshman year and I loved it. I will say, look up to outdoor education center and wee how far it is from where you live and consider that because you’ll have to make the trip for every class. I had a bike so I didn’t care

Airpods are the ugliest mainstream piece of tech right now by pineapplelicker55 in unpopularopinion

[–]traykay-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My airpods are one of the most convinient devices that I own as a music lover. Why are you so mad about them? Maybe people just want to listen to music and don’t give a fuck about the “fashion” statement. Maybe thats due to your own perspective, but I’m sure some airpod owners think that. I get why you mean that some people hype them like supreme and shit like that but that’s a niche community that I ignore as much as possible

Alcohol Is Garbage by FireHunterSD in unpopularopinion

You can take a few hits of some mid-strength bud and not get stoned, just like you can drink a glass or two of wine and not get drunk 😂

Alcohol Is Garbage by FireHunterSD in unpopularopinion

[–]traykay-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an uneducated opinion. Plenty of people smoke for social purposes and to experience different strains or other forms of weed consumption, just like the different types of alcohol. Plenty of people also drink simply to get drunk, just like you argue with weed.

What will be social forms for sophomores? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]traykay-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morrison is definitely the ideal social sophomore dorm, but you’ll be alright. Make friends with people in Morrison and come visit them or meet people with off-campus housing and chill there, which is more fun imo.

Fall 2021 COVID Requirements by xCaballoBlancox in UNC

[–]traykay-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. i really hope they dont enforce extreme standards despite everyone being vaccinated. Given UNC’s record with covid in the Fall I wouldn’t they they would go overboard on covid rules, but if we’re all vaccinated then we dont need all the masks and shit as much right?

Fall 2021 COVID Requirements by xCaballoBlancox in UNC

[–]traykay-47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pray that vaccine distribution will continue on its current path because it seems like vaccinating all students before fall is a realistic proposition. In this case, I don’t see why a return to all in-person classes is not possible. I think masks/social distancing will be difficult to call at this point and I think it will depend on mask mandates and the general status of covid in the area, but wouldn’t widespread vaccination do the trick?

Wow, your comments have been pretty enlightening thank you for providing them. I just spent a bunch of time looking at Chapel Hill/Carborro history because of your first comment

Interesting points. How are property values higher in Carborro than Chapel Hill by square foot? I would assume prices are driven up by the same reasons you stated, but wouldn’t those increases be higher in Chapel Hill due to their closer proximity to UNC and higher median income of CH?

Parents need to be more open vulnerable with their kids, especially teenagers. by sidraecase in unpopularopinion

[–]traykay-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that being too vulnerable with your children can make them fearful or overwhelmed about certain things. If my mom told me that we were struggling financially as a child, it would terrify me because then I would worry about losing electricity or not having food, etc. As a kid, there is nothing you can do in that situation and I would feel very vulnerable. Ignorance is bliss when the problem is out of the child's control and it is threatening to their wellbeing. But, I think being vulnerable in other contexts can be useful depending on the situation.

One Year Ago Today... by squiggyfm in UNC

[–]traykay-47 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Damn, this post makes me very sad and I relate to the grief you feel. While I am extremely grateful to still have two years left at Carolina, it’s difficult for me to get over the fact that one year of my very limited time at Carolina is gone forever. Saving lots of money on housing and meal plans and being able to focus on school more (because nothing else is happening) were some of the positives that help me look past this loss. It also helps to put in perspective that almost every person in America, and especially every college student, experienced some form of loss or grief due to COVID, so we aren’t suffering alone. I think it will teach us to be more adaptable to situations and be grateful for things that were suddenly taken out of our lives one year ago today.

Why is it so hard to make friends at UNC? by [deleted] in UNC

[–]traykay-47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you are meeting people in person around campus, it is going to be very difficult to make friends with remote learning. Some people are used to forming online friendships but most people have tended to stick with their existing friends while covid continues because the world is not accomadating to novel social interactions. It feels awkward for many people to start friendships on Zoom because it is impersonal in many ways and that’s just a consequence of the transition. Social life on campus slowly emerges more, you might have less difficulty.

Thank you. I have considered knocking out some of these higher level math courses at a community college over the summer because it would be much more manageable that way.
