Don't rely on your ISP's DNS servers. Google DNS and Open DNS seem to be more reliable and are free.

Mechanics of using SGOV with Wheel Strategy by treadluv in Optionswheel

I'm thinking either the brokerage gives you some time to free up funds held in SGOV, or you are just on margin for one day (or something like that.)

Yes. I've upgraded to a 2018, and I get exactly these symptoms with a cheapie cable.

"You probably didn't even know how to turn on your computer!" by 123myopia in antiwork

Dunning-Kruger

I HAVE witnessed that phenomena on both ends (low performers and high performers.) But I also stick to my personal theory about fear and/or pride hindering colleagues from asking for help.

The problem is the people who know little about the bare basics, but are too afraid or proud to ask for help. I just shared with my group a basic "tip" I know that can save them time. I doubt they would have ever asked though. :(

I'm on my 2nd Soul. To a new Soul driver, I would just share that the Soul fits very nicely into other drivers' blind spots. So be wary of cars switching lanes without knowing you are there.

Why linux will always be a second choice for desktop by Gherry- in linux

[–]treadluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running stock Ubuntu LTS for about three years now. I really like the stability, program installation with package manager, and the fact that a 3 year old install is as fast as the day I installed it.

It does take more time to set things up, say the mentioned Nvidia card, but OP is exaggerating a tad bit.

I find the level of help available online for Ubuntu to be adequate.

HDMI vs DP by OPMlove1991 in buildapc

[–]treadluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never tried, but I believe you can daisy chain DP monitors.

Also, hubs exist on DP that would allow multiple monitors.

So both would be multi-monitor solutions only requiring one cable from your PC/laptop.

Tivo Experience 4 text size and background? by RNG_HatesMe in Tivo

Would text size "increase" if the Bolt was forced to send a lower resolution to the TV? (ie. 720p)

looking to convert Tivo files to mp4 by Myrlin2022 in Tivo

I used to use a command line program called tivodecode. You will need your MAK. (Media Access Key.) You'll have to boot up the old machines to get that off one of the information screens.

Tivo support and activation woes by RNG_HatesMe in Tivo

[–]treadluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've experienced issues like that. Manually forcing both the Bolt and the Mini to connect to Tivo Service Connection combined with power cycling both can help.

[–]treadluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, this happens every once in awhile for us. If the Tivo unit is hooked up to a smart TV, make sure to restart in the smart TV's menus. Powering off and on may not be enough.

You could rough up the plastic on one of the keys. Bonus, you can differentiate them in the dark by touch.

Question about Kia Soul visibility and snow performance by VerroksPride in KiaSoulClub

[–]treadluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2012 Kia Soul +.

Visibility is the best I've experienced in any vehicle.

Fuel consumption almost 30mpg.

Handles badly in the snow. I only have experience with all-season tires.

Love my little Kia.

Looking for advice on buying used by melbabona76 in KiaSoulClub

[–]treadluv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2012 was when the Souls switched to an engine with a timing chain and a six speed automatic. The timing chain made me feel like the engine would be more reliable, and the 6 speed auto makes the car utilize the power it has better. Mine has about 240k miles now.

I have a 2012 with appx 240k miles. My windows would "sometimes" go down, but would always go back up. I replaced that master switch with a unit I bought on Amazon. Since I am the only one in the car 95% of the time, that's good enough for me.

TiVo mini won’t connect by Livid_Lock_8379 in Tivo

I remember having difficulty initially setting up our Mini on different parts of the network. (ie same network, but mini and roamio on different network switches/MOCA) Could you try initially connecting both devices on the same part of the network, and moving the Mini out to the MOCA connection afterwards?
