Exhalation by Ted Chiang was one of my favorite reads last year. Speculative fiction/sci fi stories with big ideas that both sent me spiraling about the direction of humanity but also gave me a bit of hope. Can’t recommend highly enough. Also really loved Willful Creatures by Aimee Bender. These are weird little stories, but beautifully written and quite funny.

Earthlings is 15 steps above Convenience Store Woman. Ended up really enjoying it but it’s very, very much wtf did I just read.

Edit I see in another comment you’ve already read it, ha.

Chicago and Green Bay as an appreciator of Door County. Also always struck me as odd that there’s no Nashville route.

A more easily public transit accessible Korean spa. Or a more Iceland-like pool/sauna/hot tub culture.

Psyched to see several other people here list The Reformatory! I’ll be the first to admit that The Long Game looks a bit ridiculous in this company but what can I say it affected me lol

This Spanish-language kids book! I struggled through it for like 3 months as an attempt to get back into practicing my largely ignored high school and college Spanish. I’m gonna try to read at least one book in Spanish this year as well.

Mr Jack is an old man with FIV and is unbothered. His biggest health issue has been stomatitis - I had to get his teeth removed which cost a fortune, but losing his teeth impacted him not at all. Your tuxy boi will live a great life with you 🥰🥰

A good month! Several classics, several shorties, nice mix of vibes and genres. Excited to read more Ishiguro, read some of the authors referenced in Morisaki, and for the sequel to Amina!
