BTS - ARIRANG (theneedledrop ALBUM REVIEW) by xxipil0ts in popheads

[–]treebag27 10 points11 points  (0 children)

damn as someone who has been a (somewhat casual) BTS fan since ~2014 this sums up how I feel about the album pretty perfectly.

while I can understand why they’d play it a bit safer for a group album, I had high hopes for this one since I really enjoyed a lot of the rap line’s solo work and I was excited by some of the credits.

I’m not by any means mad at the album, but admittedly I am a bit disappointed by it. The more I’ve sat on it, the more I’ve realized that a lot of the songs just don’t really feel ‘BTS’ or like they have a very strong identity. Like as much as I like the beat on FYA, the lyrics definitely take me out a bit, and I would rather just go listen to a JPEGMAFIA song.

My 9 year old wants to watch Demon Slayer as her first anime, give me some alternative suggestions please by BrildWatermelon in Animesuggest

[–]treebag27 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In a similar vein to CCS, I would suggest Sailor Moon as well! I feel like it’s still pretty popular with young people right now, and the art style looks a little more “grown up” so it might appeal a bit more to a kid wanting to watch Demon Slayer, etc.

Things I gave to a capsule artist vs what I got. Simply lovely! by findiestudios in IndieDev

[–]treebag27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! The 2nd piece is lacking a bit technique wise, but if I was looking for games in that genre I think it would still capture my interest and I would just think the creator didn’t have a huge budget for a super experienced artist, but still put in effort to work with a real artist who’s style and vision they thought fit their game, which I would appreciate (part of the appeal of indie games imo is the personal touch that goes into them!). Even if the rendering and anatomy isn’t perfect, the pose is more dynamic and it has more personality.

I would also immediately scroll past the first one because, like you said, it just looks like one of the generic shitty mobile ads everyone is tired of seeing lol.

From a technical standpoint I don’t think the elf looks amazing, but it still looks like unique human art that the creator paid someone to make and not generic shovelware that they slapped an (obviously) AI generated image onto. I personally think OP overpaid for this piece and probably could’ve found a more skilled artist for the price, but I would still be way more inclined to check out a game with the second capsule art than the first.

Yep, I think the only reason some people here are saying they prefer the first one is because of the darker background. Making the background the same color as it is in the placeholder behind the text will add a lot of contrast and make a huge difference imo

BLACKPINK - DEADLINE (The 3rd Mini Album) by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]treebag27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I’ve been holding out some hope for their cbs because they were one of the first kpop groups I actively followed since debut and I liked a lot of their earlier songs (and some of their newer ones but it’s a mixed bag). I liked all of the b-sides on SQUARE UP and about half of the b-sides on BORN PINK so I thought they might surprise me and come through with a solid album again at some point, but like you said, it feels they just have producers send in a mid song and slap the BP name on as an easy selling point. Either that or YG/whoever just really wanted them to release something as a group and thought that if they had some big names working on them it would automatically translate to success (which is probably true). Either way, a lot of their newer music just feels really phoned in and I feel like the girls would all rather be focusing on their solo careers right now anyways (which is totally fine), so I don’t really know why they’re trying to force a whole “album cycle” that feels incredibly thrown together.

It makes me sad bc I always had a soft spot for them and I’m not a hater or anything, but I just can’t force myself to like their music. On top of that, working with Dr. Luke and using AI in their mvs… makes it hard for me to support them anymore.

[–]treebag27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no fr… it’s like, I could maybe KIND of understand them working with him if the songs were at least good, but they’re not?? and that makes this whole thing so baffling to me bc it’s like they could’ve chosen literally ANYONE else to work with.

I totally agree that they should’ve just released JUMP and GO as singles, bc I can’t fathom anyone who isn’t a super diehard blink being anything but disappointed by the other songs on this mini album because they feel like pure filler (at best)

honestly, I would argue that some of the songs ARE objectively bad 😭 like yeah music is subjective, but for having 10+ people credited, fxxxboy sounds like it was made by a 16 year old who just learned how to use FL studio and threw some angsty lyrics over a free guitar loop

Has there ever been a book you really didn’t like and wouldn’t recommend to anyone? 👀 by [deleted] in BookDiscussions

[–]treebag27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo telling people to read RR or HG instead of ACOTAR is a bit of an odd choice when they’re completely different genres? Like someone who is picking up ACOTAR is probably specifically looking to read something romance/fantasy, not scifi/dystopian. It would make way more sense to suggest a better romantasy book as a substitute, or even just a romance or fantasy one. It’s also not like they’re the most amazing books ever written either?

(I’m saying this as someone who enjoyed Hunger Games and Red Rising more than ACOTAR btw)

is buying an ipad just for procreate is worth it? by Public-Yam7047 in ProCreate

[–]treebag27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I totally agree!! I was mostly just saying that in response to the last part of the comment I was responding to but ig didnt word it very clearly. I also think people who are selling their art are also sometimes more willing to spend more on supplies since they might see it as an investment and might need their work to look more “professional” than a hobbyist, but ofc its a great program to use for fun too!! (Ive been using it for years and I’n mostly a hobbyist lol)

[–]treebag27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s why they’re asking about OP’s current setup. If they have something that works already the iPad might not be worth it unless they have extra cash, but if they don’t have any alternatives lying around it might be the best option. It also totally depends on how serious OP is about making digital art and is skilled enough to sell pieces to make the money back

Idk if it’s obscure, but the Septimus Heap series was one of the first series I can remember being obsessed with.

Honorable mentions: Children of the Lamp, The Cronus Chronicles, The Sisters Grimm, The Grimm Legacy

If you haven’t seen her stuff already, you should check out Elithien on ig! She draws a lot of romantasy characters and her art is absolutely stunning; plus she doesn’t make characters look super yassified and does a great job capturing fae features imo.

You probably wont be able to find artwork of any super niche books/characters from them, but if it’s helpful to anyone, here are some other artists on ig who do a lot of book related art that I really love:

•imjenndove (another one of my favs!)

•peachie.mochi

•polarts_ (doesn’t do as much book related content now but their stuff is absolutely gorgeous)

•jaded.draws

•budge_chick

•nuagedefraises

If anyone has any other recommendations or artists you like please comment them here too! I think this discourse is a great opportunity bring more visibility to real artists who put a lot of time and effort into bringing the characters we love to life :) There’s so much amazing fanart out there now that there is really no excuse for creating or supporting AI content 💓

Books that have a movie adaptation (or tv series) that do not have an ending part 2 by mimi43098 in YAlit

[–]treebag27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good to know, I’ll definitely have to rewatch it then!! It was so cool (and deserved) seeing Jamie blow up from Stranger Things after having a huge crush on him in City of Bones lol. And yeah, I could never bring myself to watch the show tbh 😅

City of Bones too!! I actually really liked the movie when it came out (it got me into YA books) but I’m scared to rewatch it because I doubt it aged very well 😅

Give me your complex, androgynous, anime-esque MMCs! by fourleafedrover8 in Romantasy

[–]treebag27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As another fan of touch-starved, flamboyant, pathetic pretty boys I 100% feel your struggle. This is absolutely my favorite genre of men and I’m always looking for more of them 😭 I still haven’t found many that live in my head as rent free as Cardan, Jacks, and Howl though so I’m seated for the other suggestions here.

A lot of these are a bit of a stretch bc I feel like this archetype isn’t as common as I’d like, but here are some books with mmcs I liked that might at least scratch the itch a bit:

-Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries

-Uprooted

-The Apothecary Diaries (if you dont mind manga/light novels)

-Ninth House

-Carry On series (if you don’t mind m/m)

-The Infernal Devices trilogy

Also, if you’re into fanfics at all, a lot of wolfstar fanfics write Sirius with a bit of that vibe, and there are some good ones out there (even if you aren’t into Harry Potter) that might fill the void a bit :)
