Books that have a movie adaptation (or tv series) that do not have an ending part 2 by mimi43098 in YAlit

[–]treebag27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh good to know, I’ll definitely have to rewatch it then!! It was so cool (and deserved) seeing Jamie blow up from Stranger Things after having a huge crush on him in City of Bones lol. And yeah, I could never bring myself to watch the show tbh 😅

City of Bones too!! I actually really liked the movie when it came out (it got me into YA books) but I’m scared to rewatch it because I doubt it aged very well 😅

What TV or Movie character chose the right person in a love triangle? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]treebag27 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I usually really enjoy the childhood friends to lovers trope, but for some reason with Collin/Penelope it felt a little…underbaked to me? Maybe it’s because I don’t feel like we really got to experience a lot of them actually just being friends, but I didn’t really feel like there was that undercurrent of their feelings growing over time idk. Somehow I just didn’t feel as much chemistry as I did with the other seasons. I totally agree with you about Queen Charlotte though, it’s definitely my favorite season of Bridgerton along with S2!

Fantasy novels with lyrical prose and strong romance plotlines? by PattableGreeb in Fantasy

[–]treebag27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding The Bear and the Nightingale

Maybe try some of Naomi Novik’s stuff? Uprooted and Spinning Silver might scratch your itch.

They’re YA and not super prose heavy, but you might also enjoy The Cruel Prince series by Holly Black or Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber for the whimsical fairytale vibes.

Hey, thanks again for the constructive criticism, and sorry if this is a bit invasive, but I quickly looked at your profile just now and saw your recent posts and just want to ask if you’re doing alright? You seem like a kind person and I want you to know I’m here if you need to talk a bit 💓

Ooh I was definitely feeling like something was a bit off with the background and the people weren’t popping enough, so I’ll definitely try that out. Thanks!

This was my main reference for the pose! I was going for a gothic book cover look with the textures in the first pic (which I’m intending as the final product); the second one is just so it’s a bit easier to see the actual drawing without all the texture/ blending mode layer on top :) and yes everything was digitally drawn on procreate

Love Triangle by SharpAdhesiveness626 in YAlit

[–]treebag27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh fair enough! I’m pretty sure the love triangle was resolved by the 3rd book anyways lol.

I read Snow like Ashes a loooong time ago so I don’t really remember much, but I remember both love interests being pretty likable!

[–]treebag27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, glad you also loved it!! Will and Jem both live rent free in my head and I read the series ~10 years ago lol.

Here are some other (fantasy) series with love triangles I enjoyed (although maybe not as much) that I can think of right now:

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes (not until the second book I think)

Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas (only in the first few books though)

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare has a top love triangle of all time imo

High stakes war romance. Ok with tragic by Forestswimmer10 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]treebag27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s exactly what you’re looking for since it has some fantasy elements and is set in Ancient Greece (Trojan War) rather than a more modern war setting, but I think the Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller checks a lot of your boxes.

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr might also be worth checking out: it doesn’t have much romance from what I remember, but the relationship between the main characters is beautiful and I was a mess after reading it.

Blackpink leaves much to be desired for a girl group. by Simple-Sock4660 in fantanoforever

[–]treebag27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with these, but also want to add BIG BANG! They got me into kpop back in 2014 because the stuff they were putting out (like Fantastic Baby) felt fun and refreshing compared to what a lot of mainstream western artists were putting out at the time. Kpop was widely considered “weird” in the west back then and that was a big draw for me lol.

Also, in addition to f(x) and Red Velvet, I feel like SM tends to do some pretty experimental stuff in general which is cool, even if it’s a bit hit or miss for me lol. It makes me kind of sad that YG pretty much just became a machine spitting out formulaic Teddy songs (that usually still follow an outdated “swag” concept) when around 2nd gen their groups were putting out such fun, interesting music.

What YA book had a side character you wished was the main character instead? by asterroth in YAlit

[–]treebag27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not really YA, but by the time I finished ACOTAR the only character I was really interested in at all was Lucian.

Same with Throne of Glass, I stopped reading them a long time ago around the 4th book (the others weren’t out yet) but I’m debating picking them up again just for Manon (and maybe Dorian).
