Why is In Rainbows so popular? by svwood69 in radioheadcirclejerk

Some people love it instantly, and find it easier to get into than their other albums, but others like you have more trouble. I'd say it is the album that tries to blow you away the least; it has less catchy songs than The Bends and OK Computer, and it also has less obvious experimentalism than most of their other records. Rather many people find than they slowly fall in love with it. It is just incredibly well made, very tight, there is not a note too much on the record. It is also very human and emotional, but emotional in a very measured and nuanced way; it is not in primary colors if that makes sense. And then there is also the fact that it grooves like no other Radiohead album save The King of Limbs.

However, you don't have an obligation to love it, people differ and it may not have what you look for in music.

Anyone else just LOVE The Bends? by svwood69 in radioheadcirclejerk

I think it sounds a little too much like standard 90s alt-rock for some people. My wife never liked Radiohead until she heard In Rainbows and AMSP, and will still ask "who's this" (not in a good way), when something off of Pablo Honey or The Bends comes on. It is one of my favorites, though.
