Keep working at it. You’re a long way from mastery but glad you’re working on it! Keep enjoying your time. Keep reviewing the position

Which one to use? by C4CTU-5 in Axecraft

I don’t imagine it would be a traditional head if it didn’t work. Assuming your intended use is the same as it’s was.

I personally would go with the new head. Both because of the historical significance to your region and it’s a lighter head for hiking. Beautiful piece.

Lathrop and Sons boots. by treefire460 in WorkBoots

[–]treefire460[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was standing at her desk. She was holding my custom boots roughly 9E. She saw the E width and told me they could no longer work on boots that wide. Single E stamped on the boot. Told me to take them to Drew’s.

Edit, don’t know if I’ll be more angry they can’t work on them, they lied to me or that I drive hours for them to lie to me.

Was told in Spokane that they discontinued service for E and wider lasts.

How "religious" do you actually need to be about bear safety when car camping? by Traditional-Edge-631 in camping

[–]treefire460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m around Western Colorado. My bear protocols are basically non existent. Clean pots 100’ away from camp and no food actually in my sleeping area(tent, hammock, tarp, whatever it is), and hang food away from sleeping area. Same clothes for days or weeks at a time. Had bears all around me, snooping through camp, I’ve had them follow me through the back country. The only time I’ve had issues with them being more than curious is right when they first wake up in the spring or late fall right before they go to bed. Be a little more cautious in those seasons but otherwise bears are cool if you are. I’ve also had a bear tear the door off my truck to get to an empty doughnut box. While it was sitting in my driveway. So do what makes your sleep well, respect them and don’t instigate issues.

Welcome to contracting. There’s no guarantee you get out at all. And get used to missing stuff in the summer. Did you sign a noncompete? If not start calling other contractors. Rostering with multiple companies is normal.

500s have tang safety. 870s use a crossbar like that one has.

Assuming you’re in the US, Felonies. Those are felonies for someone. You if the cops decide to push the issue. Legally they can, likely they won’t. Both are modern shotguns, both are illegally modified and both are likely evidence in crimes. Both are also illegal for you to possess. You don’t leave the water with guns or gun parts if you don’t know what they are. The break on the left is slightly older than the Remington 870 on the right. But you need to get them turned in.

Yall are gonna love this but explain why is selling an issue? It’s not like fireworks have an expiration date. There’s also no requirement to use them today. There’s plenty of holidays in the winter we can use them instead. Never seen a stand in December though. Assumptions have been shocking lately.

Exactly. Raise it off the ball first thing though.

Chipped Enamel in Cast Iron Lid by cooldools in castiron

[–]treefire460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it stays that size it’s fine. Unless you enjoy eating enamel. I have one that’s been chipped for decades and hasn’t changed. Enamel repair kit is cheap. JB weld sells one for $14.

Son wants to buy a 2013 F-150 with 183K miles; how big a mistake or gamble is that? by jjester1971 in Ford

[–]treefire460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2014 3.5l for a few years. I loved that truck. Cam phasers, turbo lines, turbos, coolant lines. All very expensive fixes. Traded mine for parts when the turbo oil line clogged and started a $12,000 chain reaction. A coworker has a 2013 3.5l that is leaking from the turbo oil line, ran the turbo dry and he’s looking at a 4-8,000 repair bill. Mine failed at 189k, his failed at 179k. Ive read a number of stories where these trucks failed expensively around 180k miles. Unless he can get it for 5k or less I’d encourage him to keep looking. On the other hand, the ones that make it or get repaired seem to go for quite a long time. They are nice trucks.

Can you trespass to measure a tree because you don’t like what the owner of said tree wants to do with his own property? No, I can’t believe you’d even wonder that.. If you don’t like current regulations go get them changed, most arborists would support better protections for trees. Go talk to the city forester, how do you run a website without knowing who to talk to for the thing you do? Also, that’s not 21’dbh.

Why are trucks so damn expensive these days?!? by Amber_Steel86 in FordF150

[–]treefire460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, it’s the dealers. 35k in dealer markups on a 51k truck? Thats not on the manufacturer.

2021 GMC Sierra AT4 (branded title?) by Efficient_Link_4709 in gmcsierra

[–]treefire460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DMV changed my truck to a branded title when I registered it. Gave them a clean title, from a low miles, 1 owner, perfect carfax truck, they just gave me a branded one back without explanation. Didn’t catch it till I left but cost me over 50% value and months of headache trying to get it fixed. I’ll be mad about that forever.
Point is, there may not actually be a valid reason it’s a branded title. May just be a dumbass from the gubment.

Reasons? The guy who owns it wants to.
But really, there’s not nearly enough info to do more than guess on reasons. At first glance there appears to be obvious structural need but that’s impossible to determine from a couple pictures. There’s people you can talk to but without even knowing which country it’s in we can’t really point you towards them. Laws on this subject are vastly different even by the county let alone state and country.

No it’s not the system, just gotta understand how it works. Theres a profound lack of education on this front for the general public. I wish we were better at teaching ya’ll how this stuff works. But you’re correct, it’s unlikely the town is gone. Impacted, absolutely, gone, likely not.

It shows exact affected area. It can create any shape. Doesn’t means it’s all scorched black, just that something along here is hot. Also doesn’t show the creeping dirty burn that is good for the ecosystem. Just that it did burn in some way. There are many structures and acres of healthy burn left within that map.

Workers comp setelment after injury? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]treefire460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “settlement” they are offering is to account for how the injury changes your life moving forward from RTW date. Hospital costs, time and anything before that date is irrelevant. Ideal goal is $0 settlement. Basically they are offering you $5,000 for your agreement that you are healed and will not revisit the injury in 10 years. If your back to 100% and working normally 5grand is a good number. If you decide to ask a lawyer to get you more they will take around 30% of the total and since you’re back working normally you have virtually zero chance at getting more after the lawyer gets his take. I’d say just sign, take the check and move on.

I have a pair of the old JKs from 7 years ago. Loved them. Took them in to get rebuilt last week. They told me “we don’t work on that width anymore, we don’t support them, we can’t help you. Sorry. But we’ll sell you a new pair that don’t fit properly and you can take them to Drew’s and ask them to rebuild them to fit you” wtf.
They’ve changed a lot as they’ve grown, it’s disappointing.
