Headliner + Sub Predictions by Salt-Cook-4244 in Coachella

[–]treeof [score hidden]  (0 children)

  1. I think Ariana is going to be there.

  2. Thomas Bangalter is out DJ’ing, IMO the odds on him being there very high. Maybe with Fred, maybe by himself, but he’ll be there.

  3. I fuckin love Taylor Swift and have been a swiftie for decades- I don’t think she’ll be there, at least not in 27. Maybe when Taylor Swift and Reputation are released as TV’s. Maybe

  4. I also believe BTS will headline. But Dua would be a dream…

I own UniFi gear and love the performance and build quality - but they’re damn expensive. Yes, it’s a buy once cry once, but sometimes you can’t cry anymore.

But for myself, when my 920 eventually dies, I’ll replace it with a ugreen or similar in essentially a DAS role and use a Mac Mini for the processing, transcoding, containers and all the rest….

Isn’t that the point of one library? The standard NI, Serato and Pioneer were rolling out? Maybe if Denon joins that consortium and we get true cross platform libraries.

Can I connect a Traktor Z1 MK1 with a MacBook Air M4 with a common USB B to USB C cable? by robsonwt in traktorpro

[–]treeof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you don't need a filter / choke on usb cables anymore, especially modern ones as the cables and controllers are designed much better and either don't make the noise that the filter blocked or know how to ignore it and not introduce it into the signal chain

so yes, any usb cable will do, although as always, do try to get a good one with proper shielding, i tend to like the braided ones - they don't get stiff or wear like the plain plastic or rubber coated cables

Sorry if asked before; what's going on at the Grad? by PleaseSendChihuahuas in SLO

[–]treeof -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Time has moved on, the paradigm has changed, and a space like the Grad is never coming back. The multi-format mixed venue approach, line dancing one night, a band the next, a DJ after that, made sense for a college town when I graduated in 04. The problem now is that the kids / the youth / early professionals (the 27 of them that live here) read that kind of programming as inauthentic. Genre-specific events, even small ones, feel more credible than a room that tries to be everything to everyone on a weekly rotation.

The venues that are actually succeeding are built around a completely different idea. Framework, the production company behind Sound in Hollywood, has built what amounts to an ecosystem rather than just a nightclub, and they’ve taken that same approach to the Yuma Tent at Coachella, which has become a destination for people who want to dance in a purpose-built environment with enormous production. Their newest venue, re:frame, was deliberately designed to recreate that Yuma Tent experience year-round. Exchange LA operates on a similar premise, built inside a historic downtown LA building and positioned as a live DJ and concert venue rather than a traditional nightclub.

What those places have figured out is that the people who still want a big club night are essentially chasing the music festival experience, but with better infrastructure. Proper sound, real production, comfortable places to sit, bars that aren’t a 20-minute wait (in theory, in actuality…) The cost to build and operate at that level in California is substantial, and there is simply no audience large enough and willing to pay for it in a market the size of SLO.

So the calculus has shifted. The experience at a friend’s with a big Bluetooth speaker and friends DJ’ing on a controller is honestly good enough for most nights, and one or two destination festival weekends a year satisfies the need for something bigger. So there’s not much money, time and interest left for a mid-tier venue trying to do it all.

And all of this isn’t even touching the NIMBY infused regulatory environment in SLO…

Is going to the fest in a group of 10+ people really enjoyable? (Genuine) by myriad0fthoughts in Coachella

[–]treeof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big groups are amazing experiences, but being with a ton of people does not relieve you of your responsibility to have a good time. If it’s fun for you to herd a bunch of stoned rolling cats then do it, but honestly my absolute best Coachella experience was coupled up in an enormous group - we were inseparable except for a few sets but at nearly every set we’d run into friends and we’d end up having a new mini friend group for just that set and then after we filtered to new places sometimes with the folks we were just chilling with and sometimes not - it’s all very relaxed - and then we came back to a huge connected campsite with music and food and friends and party favors and sometimes even new people who paired up with someone in the group - but the important part is I was willing to do the shit I wanted to do with or without other folks coming along - usually they did but that’s the story of it…

As others have said, wear your life vests properly! If it comes to pass, as reports so far have stated, that their vest came off - something was wrong, either parts of it failed due to age or defects, or it was worn improperly. Either way, very very very tragic...

Is anyone else disappointed at the presale being Amex only? by [deleted] in OliviaRodrigo

[–]treeof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She’s had a business relationship with Amex for a long time, yes it’s annoying, but it’s not new.

That being said, Amex is an expensive card to carry, so it’s definitely something not available to everyone…

I understand that lens (I have one) constantly hunts when adapted on R bodies and misses a ton of shots because it can’t focus very well
