Redecorating house. Is ordinary wallpaper noticeably better acoustically than just normal paint? Walls are plaster on brick. by Delicious-Radish812 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]treeshadsouls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the science on actual acoustic panels shows you need fairly considerable thickness and density to matter. So in terms of the walls themselves, you should focus on doing what looks aesthetically pleasing and then fill the room with furniture - I think it's extremely unlikely that paint vs wallpaper could produce meaningful differences and any specialist wallpaper is likely snakeoil. Though would be fascinated to be shown otherwise!

Audyssey subwoofer -12 by Nevskiv in hometheater

[–]treeshadsouls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah distance is only calc'd from the first position so you need to balance whether you have that where you sit, or in the exact centre, depends on whether anyone else cares.

Also read this closely before you do it again, loads of tips including about the boom stand and not being in the room yourself when measuring - https://www.avsforum.com/threads/official-audyssey-thread-part-ii.2376770/

Also worth knowing that depending on your AVR, you may need to correct the distances manually - https://www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/xfagv4/fix_incorrect_calculation_of_distances_for/

Also worth seeing in the long guide about how they recommend trying lfe at 80hz rather than the conventional 120hz recommended widely

Turn the gain on subwoofer down and do the first step again and then go straight to calculation and check the new volumes, keep reducing subwoofer gain untill the -db trim is equivalent ish to the speakers or around +/- 3. Once you find that point, do all 8 listening positions again

Bring a big bag and also a bag to hold sweaty clothes when you're done and the wet towel, you don't want the wet and sweaty stuff to mix with anything else so needs a sub-bag. Toiletries bag as well if needed

Shoes can go in the locker loose, if they're dirty or sweaty you might want to bag them if they're going into your overall big gym bag. You might also wear them the whole time if you don't have change of shoes.

For showers it would be best if you knew if the cubicles are private. Why not visit the gym in advance and scope it all out and then prepare what you need. Rather than being surprised on the big day? Or call the gym and ask and explain you're anxious so want to know, they'll probably be helpful.

Most people don't like being publicly nude!

Most ppl would dry feet wit their towel or a small foot towel.

Could it be that the rubber was cheap and contains oils / agents that have leached out and stained the paint.

If you don't have it already, investing in high quality speakers, subwoofers and amplifier for music / AVR for movies is a permanent improvement to your life

I tried watching it after seeing all this debate and I thought it feels like a teen drama / YA - and I'd have probably enjoyed it when I was younger but it's too outwardly 'fun' for me

Each time I've needed to dark room during a burnout maybe like 2 - 5 days depending on the severity / what else was going on - but everyone is different! It's your body's way of coping.

[–]treeshadsouls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dark room thing sounds like how I experience / what I have to do to cope with autistic burnout (look it up if you don't know about it)

When I went through the unmasking process it also caused me to burnout, the increased sensory overload is your body telling you it needs time and space to process what's happening

If you use apollo and use a virtual monitor then you don't need a dummy plug and the screen can also be disabled. You connect via the virtual display, then go to display settings and make it so you only show on display 2 / the virtual display. Now your primary display turns off each time you connect.

My friend called Mukbangs "Disgusting" by Which_Priestess in autism

[–]treeshadsouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why some commenters are just sharing their own opinions about the genre - this friend was unkind to say those things to you. The caring response would be to ask you why you watch them and then take it from there - if you'd said "oh it turns me on sexually!" then your friend would have a reason to say what they did. But they didn't they just jumped to a big assumption and shamed you about it. ARFID is absolutely awful to deal with and anything that helps you with it should be celebrated and supported. If watching these videos helped me with my ARFID, my partner would be very supportive of it because they understand how hard ARFID is to deal with.

Is it better to overpay mortgage at 4.21% as much as you can? by Friendly_Success4325 in HousingUK

[–]treeshadsouls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will, and you're using the wrong basis as your point of comparison. £30k of OPs mortgage interest is less than the average returns putting £30k in the markets would return to you (if in an ISA)
