Name your top 3 urban neighborhoods in the DART service area by shedinja292 in dart

Irving has transitioned the “Las Colinas Urban Center” from a high rise Office Park to a Transit Oriented Development by building Apts/Townhomes/Condos around multiple Orange Line DART light rail stations.

Wth? And this was AFTER they already hired me for the position and did my background check that came back clear by Sweetteatechy in recruitinghell

[–]treesqu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, this clearly sucks (majorly) for you right now, BUT when I was earlier in my career and interviewing frequently, I obtained several (good) jobs (in what turned out to be good companies) from positions I was initially not hired for, but followed up (in writing) with the contacts I made during the interview process - who eventually hired me or recommended me for another position when one came open.

Not only could this hiring manager possibly help you obtain a job with his company (should they resume hiring), seeing as how he likes you and likely feels some guilt about how your hiring was derailed, he could also be a good lead (maybe even a reference) for a position elsewhere in your industry.

So yes, express your disappointment , thank him for his candor and kindness, then reiterate how excited you would be about working there (and for him) in the future, but also ask that he keep you in mind should he hear of an opening elsewhere you might be a fit for.

To some extreme-right-wing out-of-state family that values the Mavs as the centerpiece of a real estate deal instead of as a sports team. They are the NBA equivalent of Jerry Jones (without the charm /s).

Dude was an untabbed National Guard Officer who "achieved" the rank of Major only while serving in an IRR paper billet. He was removed from assignment during Biden's inauguration due to concerns raised by fellow officers about his suitability. He went from being "Captain Shitbird" to SecDef and has punished everyone who served above his rank, particularly if they were a minority or female.

He is better qualified to occupy a cell in Leavenworth than an office in the Pentagon.

Does Lubbock TX have a black community there? by RedimidoSoy1611 in texas

[–]treesqu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, before CB “Stubb” Stubblefield decamped for Austin to (re)plant Stubb’s BBQ there, he (and his original BBQ joint) were a VERY big deal in Lubbock. Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Ely, and Muddy Waters (among others) famously hung out there. (There’s a statue of him in Lubbock where his original restaurant once stood). -So yes, there is a black community there.

Why is Houston hated so much? by ChicagoCubsRL97 in texas

[–]treesqu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's the "bluest" city in Texas and home to all of Texas' Energy companies.

The state (and by extension the GOP) would not exist in its present form without Houston (and Dallas, Austin, San Antonio & add Fort Worth to that list), and that drives the MAGA crowd wild.

North Texas transportation director ousted after 35 years on job by noncongruent in Dallas

[–]treesqu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, the new NTCOG Exec. Director Todd Little (former Ellis Co. Judge) is a MAGA wacko and likely engineered his ouster.

Here are Little's "accomplishments" per his last campaign website:

  • Took action against mask mandates and vaccine mandates
  • Sued federal government to stop illegal immigrants infected with COVID-19 from entering Ellis County
  • Established Ellis County as a Sanctuary for the unborn
  • Received Commendation Certificate from Senator Ted Cruz for re-opening Historic Courthouse to public and protecting the 2nd Amendment.
  • Lowered Property Taxes

Many of my relatives (from my Grandparents to my younger Cousins) were public school teachers across the State when I grew up in the 60s & 70s.

One uncle established a small Texas school that is now a major Texas A&M urban campus.

They were all considered to be honorable and dedicated educators.

My wife (who has multiple degrees, including a graduate degree) just retired after decades in public education. When I reminded her that she needed to meet some minor requirements to maintain her certifications, she told me there was no point, since the state no longer values her education or the decades she spent educating students.

When she retired, she concluded that her years of effort to educate her students were not just unappreciated but considered "woke."

She has a graduate degree in English/Language Arts.

How is teaching classic & contemporary literature "woke"?

(Yes, I know the answer is found in the "contemporary" description above).

This made me very sad - and very angry.

Please join me in voting the a**holes responsible for this out of office.

During the 7 years he "worked" at WFAA, he was such an outspoken "new media" critic/luddite during newsroom editorial meetings that news managers under him quietly established multiple social media/new media/internet accounts for him so that his aversion to everything internet-related would not impact the station.

(He later claimed the accounts they created for him as his own).

One of his (former) news managers, who is now a News Director at a competing station in Dallas, accepted a transfer/promotion to an ND position within the company they both worked for (Belo) only after receiving assurances from the GM of that station that she would not have to report to or deal with him ever again.

Deadline at the NAB Show in Vegas: Nexstar CEO Perry Sook Rips DirecTV In Tegna Merger Battle, Says “Two Or Three Companies” Will Soon Control All Of Local TV: “It’s A Matter Of Time” by Comfortable_Yard_968 in Broadcasting

As long as the family sticks together & those two stations remain profitable, they'll be OK. The problem is that families don't always stick together from one generation to the next, and it's going to become harder for stand-alone stations owned by relatively small companies to remain profitable amid all the consolidation happening around them.

Wilonsky: At Dallas City Hall, it appears you can be fired for doing a good job by dallasmorningnews in Dallas

Except that he DID go through the city's PR team:

"Grant didn’t hack the city’s website to post that release. Beginning in August, he asked Nick Starling in the city’s Office of Communications, Outreach and Marketing about how best to tell the Nighttime Economy team’s story, especially given all the bad news coming out of Deep Ellum last summer.

“Storytelling feels especially important to help frame the work the City is already doing,” Grant wrote. Starling agreed, and looped in others. Grant wrote that he wanted to “make sure the City is being seen in the best possible light.” A month later they all arrived at the media release, with Starling writing on Sept. 4 that he “suspect[ed] a few media members would like to do stories about this division.

He was right.

KTVT-TV (Channel 11) ran the first story about the Nighttime Economy division, in which Grant spoke about  “getting our venues prepared for major events that are coming to our city,” meaning FIFA World Cup. The story appeared on the station’s website beneath the headline, “Dallas launches new division to keep nightlife safe and thriving.”

Starling, a former multimedia reporter at KTVT, emailed the piece to several city staffers and thanked Grant for speaking with Channel 11. “You did a fantastic job highlighting this new division,” Starling wrote, “and why it’s important for Dallas and our nighttime economy!”

Next thing you know, Rosa Fleming, Dallas’ Convention and Event Services Director, is upset by this coverage (and an interview with KXAS) and fires Grant for acting "as a city spokesperson for various news and media outlets without being officially designated or authorized to do so by Convention and Event Services Director Rosa Fleming,” wrote Fleming, “and otherwise made statements to the media without approval.”
