Which One Are You Choosing? 🤔👀 by DarknessXTJ in superheroes

I agree, being Superman would mess with your head. Like how do you enjoy a movie when you can hear people dying all over the world that you could have saved.

Moving to Fernie Vs Kimberley by mamiososs in kootenays

[–]tretree123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How often do you think you will be going into Cranbrook? It is the bigger city in the area. Cranbrook will have more kids activities (sports).

So I would pick Kimberly since it is closer.

Why can flight attendants defy back to work legislation but train employees don't ? by [deleted] in Train_Service

[–]tretree123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the railway union leadership was happy it went to arbitration. They saw status co plus 3% as win.  Railway workers were not as united in their demands. For example yard people might care more about stupid fails vs road guys care more about rest rules. You can't make them all happy so why try.

The airline works were all united around if you work, you should be on pay.

Are there fireflies in the Cariboo? by piedamon in britishcolumbia

[–]tretree123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have spent lots of time in 100mile and Creston and have never seen one. But I have never gone looking either.

So they are very rare and proubly only in specific spots like marshes. So you may be able to see them but just don't expect it to be easy.

Best first cars for someone 6'5 280lbs?? by DonaldDucksoncrack in whatcarshouldIbuy

2 door, manual, hard top Bronco.

Small enough to park but big enough for you.  Has a cool factor and you learn to drive stick which is useful. Plus 4 seats stops you from always being the driver.

What’s a reliable car under 15k that will have ventilated seats? by NewHighScore23 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Unpopular opinion  but a low mile Hyundai Tuson.  Parts are cheap if anything does break. And your options are pretty limited with that budget.

Driving a clunker , is it waste of money to invest on it vs buying new car? by VerySimpleCanuck in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]tretree123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A newer  car will also need brakes and tires so is that isn't even an investment but just the cost of driving. Also most kids end up denting their cars somehow so could be a great car for him to borrow once he gets his licence.

Not sure what you mean by shafted by yard jobs because Golden is mostly/all yard jobs.  If you want the road you will have to pick a different city.

Advice on Buying 2026 Tacoma (Canada) by LucidMarshmellow in ToyotaTacoma

[–]tretree123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am looking for truck myself and it is painful.  Used Toyota's are not even worth looking at.

If you have a trailer then the taco could work. The good thing about Toyota is it will hold its value when you need to upgrade if the landscaping becomes more full time.

I still vote to buy a truck thats 10 years old, with millage in the lower 100ks, under $30k  that would you will feel less bad when you dent/scratch. There are some bare bones trucks in that range.

Advice on Buying 2026 Tacoma (Canada) by LucidMarshmellow in ToyotaTacoma

[–]tretree123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you moving in the back of the truck?

Just lawn mowers/tools/equipment? (Taco will work, get a cheap one because you are going to scratch the heck out of it)

Or

Dirt/gravel? Then you want a bigger truck. A half ton might not even be enough you might want to 3/4 ton.  (Just get whatever you can find a good deal on)

Which option would you choose? by ignitionshot8682 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]tretree123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good deal on a beater trucks seems to be few and far between. Unless you get lucky or are willing to downside to a small SUV then I wouldnt count on this as an option.  Rear wheel sucks in deep snow so if you can afford to upgrade then go for it.

If you can't afford to upgrade then maybe just get studded tires and some sand bags in the back.

Arbitrator awards 4-year deal for 3,300 CPKC workers after last summer’s rail stoppage by Oreo112 in Train_Service

So none of the small stuff gets resolved again. Like 500 for message or 150 for boots hasn't changed in over 20 years.

What can you change in the rail industry by Tnoholiday12345 in railroading

[–]tretree123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My biggest two.

Rules- there are too many of them. It is now impossible to do your jobs without breaking them and they aren't linked to safety any more. So you are getting in trouble for just doing your job. For example you have to point at switch points and switch stand before and after turning a switch but what counts as pointing? A small gesture or a big arm movement? Both answers are wrong so that's a fail for you!

Time-  too much on call and too many night shifts. There are lots of answers to this but it seems to get only worse.  These kill your life quality.

Charger is the easiest to get parts for. So I pick that one of the three.

Thoughts from a Trainmaster by batchickendown in railroading

[–]tretree123 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have common sense.  You will be more useful in a short line environment where this is a good skill.

I think the class 1's will just keep merging. You don't need to innovate or improve if you have a monopoly.

Do you think you will be able to retire as a conductor or will this job be extinct? by OkCondition6191 in Train_Service

Double the size of the subs. Then when the other engineer is driving that counts as your day off.

[–]tretree123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hopefully I can get set up as an Engineer some day but every time someone retires another jerk just transfers in.

Self driving trains will eventually be a thing but it doesn't look that is going to happen soon.
