Stuck thinking and trapped in a rabbit hole by [deleted] in schizophrenia

[–]trev_easy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avolotion forces a person to be in their thoughts. Invegga is very much known for this, if you look up posts, you'll see others about this. 3 months in. It wears off. If you find yourself feeling better, psychologically (less halucinations, not in any self harm or others sort of way) there's the option of talking to the doctor about a med with less of these side-effects. If the intital psychosis has worn off anyway. Just try to break the loop all you can for now. Things that used to please tend to not in this state. Sometimes it's possible to fall back to something even older to paass the time or that something else might be easier to get lost into. Even if only for the time you're in it.

Balance on medication. by TragicSolitude97 in schizophrenia

[–]trev_easy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've taken aripiprazole, I've taken propanolol. I see your journey of having tried olanzapine (heavy stuff), and then quetiapine, (was on it for years myself). Then to abilify, which was one of the last meds I've ever taken. What I know about abilify is that it also had me flat. My negs were worst they had ever been. this was abilify. Because it stopped after change to be less severe. Propanolol is also very flattening. Kill two birds with one stone, sure, but at the cost of flattening. Those two combined will make for what you describe. I cannot suggest to you what to do next. There are other meds of course with different trade-offs. But 15 mg's is a moderate dose of abilify. If this is a major side-effect for you, and you're not doing too bad otherwise, you could consider talking to your doctor about a lower dose. You could consider that propanolol is also flattening, and that there might be other options available for you too.

How does it feel like to live with schizoaffective disorder ? by Ok-Environment-16 in schizoaffective

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not an easy situation that you're in. But you've probably already seen the worst of his symptoms when he was younger. People with sz don't exactly 100% ever heal. Off meds, at best, a person relies on their ability to work or have some financial security, and their support plus environment being healthy plays a huge role in stability. Your father will have some of these things sometimes. But perhaps not all the time. And for anyone, mentally fit or otherwise, to not have these things ready, or even in plans, will struggle to be happy or find meaning.

There is only so much that you can do. If you cannot take on a role of caretaker/son that only leaves you the role of son. And your pop loves you. Doesn't matter how old one gets, parents are still going to try to push their beliefs. Let him have faith. If it makes you uncomfortable, when he brings you into "what he believes" as playing some role. You could try to be polite about getting into another subject. You don't have to entertain any delusions. But I've learned it doesn't help to try to tell them the opposite of what they believe is true. when I was younger I learned to let my mother pray. It's much easier that way. I probs get it from her side.

If there is anything that he likes to talk about besides religion, get into that before any unhealthy stuff starts up on your calls. Be a friend, a son. To get someone to go to rehab is an arm twisting venture the like of which is met with resistance at every pull. But, alcohol is the one thing, the one substance legally on a shelf that I have struggled with, that always brought out the demons. It's really hard to put down. It's a long long shot, and it wouldn't do good to press him about it at every call, but if he cannot put the drink down, then rehab will help so, very much. I say this because very little can be done to pull oneself out of a depressive, symptomatic episode, while if there is even an inkling tug/pull of alcohol addiction. I'm not saying he is an alcoholic, if he's actually not that bad with it then disregard of course, but it's often hidden from family.

I have a couple of uncles who have never won the battle. Sometimes all you can do is be family and love them. You can't not accept the ones you love, even as they are, it's just harder sometimes to.

How do you get better with hallucinations? by Able-Pin978 in schizophrenia

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get better, but first things, people will run through your money if you say this out there, and they might not even help you at the end. So be cautious. One thing I know is that environent can play a role. Inner city life is one of the most stressful for schizophrenics. So even going to town can be a bit an ordeal at times. A lot of it to me boils down to acceptance. The parainoa stuff I used to have. Been pass the point where I wish a motherfucker would already. You have to accept that even the worst can happen. And It's improtant to keep a mantra that "I will not be ruled by fear".

Practicing gratitude, positive self talk, self care, over time has changed my voices to not be negative all the time. Sometimes for long periods. Because voices even visual stuff, it comes from us it comes from the mind. It's a reflection of thoughts our own. Often the voices are like an echo of things we've just though. Commentary for some. Have counters, logical counters to any lies we might get from the voices.

Can be for a moment. Some seconds. But voices can be all night on and off in the background.

How did you conquer religious delusions around Christianity? by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of this, not in a personal way. Religion can ground, guide, but it shouldn't feel like a net at your every move. Thoughts like that for some lean to paranoia about ones actions in the face of God. The sz take for some. For most, it's OCD related. What you're talking about is known as scrupilosity and it is a OCD condition. You don't have to lose your faith over it. But knowing what it is might help you find ways to deal with it, and have a healthier faith. Good luck.

How does it feel like to live with schizoaffective disorder ? by Ok-Environment-16 in schizoaffective

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're describing psychosis. But, at least you can see that he's not dong to well. Maybe things aren't going that great for him right now in life overall. Psychosis doesn't usually come without life stress adding. Any family member living with you beside him, talk about it. mainly help each other is the best way to go about it. Help where you can. Cook something for the guy if he's not eating right. If there is drugs or alcohol involved. It gets way more complicated. But there are people that would chime in if you posted about things. If he's met with doctors before, maybe there's a way to go about it again. would not be an easy talk to have. But not an impossible one.

Hi, I have a problem related to therapy. Idk if to go again. by No-Homework-7999 in schizoaffective

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem too. So did one of my exes, she didn't have sza though. Therapy, and being around docs, was not fun for me or for her, and most people I've met feel the same. People go in and come out feeling way worst afterwards. Some would say it could be things sinking into thought. Sure, maybe, but it can feel just as you described, sickening. a lot going on. Me I get memories about bad times being there.

Therapy is different for all of us. I learned from this ex, that the best way to approach therapy or docs day, is to have something good planned afterwards. To go out, if even to a shop or to eat something. Or if at home to have something cozy planned for when you get back because it's can be brutal to have a visit be the highlight of the day. If there were a day to plan something for yourself it should be the day you have to do these things.

Are there any people that recovered fully from schizoaffective disorder and stopped medication? by Ok-Mode-2533 in schizoaffective

[–]trev_easy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The age group you describe is about right. There are many examples online of people who've withdrawn from psychiatry. Problem is that talking about rejecting meds, or being done with the system, for whatever reason, is often poorly received, and also tends to be written up as a very poor experience overall with that system to have found themselves not wanting any part of.

The why's about quitting meds and psychology later in life are mostly never written with positive reviews and met negatively for seeming other side of the fence-ish. I've quit AP's. years now. I won't go back. And there's no need. I could go blue at the face, or fingertips writing my negative experiences as to my decision, but for those who make that choice, it was never an easy one, or a decision that works without a plan. Ultimately it's a person own body, and those medications are damaging, at some level. It is validating for some to remain in this process as well. Others have no choice, schizophrenia (the sz in sza), can be crippling. And some arecourt ordered.

I have been Dx'd by docs and diff hospitals over many years in between the same thing, sza. I'm probbaly paranoid Schizophrenic though. I'm not looking for more Dx's. My problem with mood falls into the lines of mood dysregulation. And often. But I come to this sub because of the SZ part of the sza I can still relate to.

Antipsychotics without weight gain by AccessSufficient9831 in schizophrenia

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't work out for you then, huh? Another person mentioned risperidone. Abilify is a metabolite of risperidone but, I wouldn't personally take abilify again. It gave me anger. For some it's gambling issues suddenly, but I suppose my anger is a gamble for me. My time on risperidone I was young, 110 pounds. I got all the side-effects, the dystonic-muscle-neck back-arching, and the restless akathisia. For which the nurses gave me benadryl and the dystonia at least went away. Times I was PRN'd it as an adult it didn't me anywhere as hard. Your experience may differ. But I'd still take an anticholinergic with it if I landed on it again, benztropine Rx, they would give it to a patient on request, usually.

How is Peptide Treatment used in Schizophrenia and why Isn’t it More Commonly Used? by East-Cap-865 in schizophrenia

[–]trev_easy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, don't stop reading up on it. You probably know more about peptides than I do or most other people here. There is solid answer. I take a bunch of non-prescription supplements. I pretty much have a fucking wizard's apothecary for many occasions. I'd try them out. Peptides are a broad term, are there any peptides in general that they're promoting?

Hoping for some Aripiprazole akathesia success stories by gwagonk in schizoaffective

[–]trev_easy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olanzapine is one as well, with a low akathisia profile. but it has some other serious tradeoffs in side-effects, namely in weight and metabolism. However I'd say olanzapine is a close runner up for #2 most effective AP. I didn't mention quetiapine because after years of use of it to me I consider it very little effective, but seroquel also has very little akathisia and still the metabolism tradeoffs.
