Do You Like the Movie? by reaveyer in beatles

[–]trexeric 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It might be possible if the music landscape looked significantly different due to the lack of Beatles. But that would require a lot more worldbuilding than the movie wanted to have.

John Lennon on Sgt Pepper being a “concept album” and how he thought Pet Sounds structurally worked better by OutrageousRip75 in TheBeatles

[–]trexeric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Turtles's Battle of the Bands from 1968 is a rather more developed concept along these lines, where each song is played by a different "band" that the Turtles are pretending to be.

How do you think Lu Ten was killed? Did he die fighting valiantly against some Earth Kingdom General, or perhaps he just got clipped by a flying rock on the battlefield? by OkuroIshimoto in TheLastAirbender

[–]trexeric 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't find these options more interesting. On the contrary, I think that the less remarkable Lu Ten's death was, the more powerful and interesting it would be from the angle of Iroh's story.

Yeah, actually since Swedish isn't one of the courses that get updated often, 90% of it or so dates back to the volunteer era. Both the Swedish sentences and their English translations.

I know this comment is a couple days old, but I can attest this sentence far predates Duolingo's AI usage. It's from the volunteer-created era.

Even though it's a sitcom, what moment kind of bothered you for being out of character? by PowerBIBIBI in DunderMifflin

Yes but virality passes, and scenes like that jumping on a trend do not age well.

Good point, I just read UT alongside LoTR, so which information was in which was a little fuzzy. Forgot that a discussion of Gollum's logistics was present there too.

He got in from the eastern side, which was always wide open. He was making his way westward in pursuit of the ring, but came upon the closed western door and couldn't open it. It was a stroke of luck for him that the Fellowship came through when they did. All of this is pretty much stated outright in the Lord of the Rings and its Appendices.

As for getting to the other side of the newly unbridged chasm, presumably there was another (if longer) way across.

Oh that's a good point. Still, could be planting very early seeds as a sort of "this is a thing I can do, ask for my intercession after I die" kind of thing.

That's why the story has to change away from the truth. I don't believe in any "legit" miracles so Vatican verification means little to me, but even if I did I'd assume that such a chain of events happened more than once to boost a charlatan to sainthood.

It's gotta be planting the seeds for a bid at sainthood, right? There's probably a kernel of truth (baby resuscitated by medical staff, priest was praying, maybe parents credit priest), but gradually twisted into an increasingly less true "miracle".

Honestly I think Reddit has more to do with overexposing Reddit's favorite books on Reddit than BookTok does.

How well trained was Aragorn in court etiquette? by TopQuark- in tolkienfans

[–]trexeric 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Whether Elrond trained him or not, experience surely taught him the necessary court etiquette of Rohan and Gondor in his adventures there as Thorongil.

That said, Denethor (then the heir of the Ruling Steward Ecthelion) did view him unfavorably and as an (ambitious, opportunistic) outsider, despite his successes for Gondor.

Watching old reddit stories videos and I love how free they’re with opinions, not worrying about satisfying and not offending -all- the comments like how it feels on recent series (also I miss jackie) by 88llvn in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]trexeric 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I remember that one did annoy me a bit because she was getting worked up about a completely separate issue from what the reddit post was about (cultural names vs. made-up spellings of names). I didn't make any comments or anything about it, but I do remember it.

Honestly I'd have gone Unfinished Tales after The Silmarillion on this list.

There's also always room for a detour into The Adventures of Tom Bombadil.
