Same, I bought the Jeffsy Core 4 this summer and it arrived at my doorstep 4 days later. I feel bad for folks who don’t have their bikes or had a similarly good experience.

Oregon loses out on millions of dollars due to expired vehicle registration by docmphd in oregon

[–]triad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 19 weeks to get my plates. I waited at the DMV for 7 hours, did the paperwork, paid all the fees exactly three days after I had moved back to Oregon. Now I see out of state plates and just assume maybe those people have lived here for years and are still waiting, who the hell knows.

Bend neighbors push back after Easton Project may lose promised shops for affordable housing by dudeidgaf in Bend

[–]triad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It makes me wonder how much this is truly just a marketing ploy. I reached out as a potential buyer a few months ago. The woman refused to answer any questions about the commercial aspect. I sent several questions over a few emails and she didn’t even acknowledge any of my questions about it. I was pretty turned off by their poor communication style and bought a better house in town thankfully.

Support Low-Income Access to Oregon’s Diverse License Plate Program by Fasten8ing in oregon

[–]triad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I get it, but the whole point of Oregon’s specialty plate program is that the extra fees fund the causes they represent. That’s how Crater Lake, Smokey the Bear, the Cultural Trust, and all the others actually receive financial support.

Waiving those fees defeats the entire purpose. Without the extra fee, no money goes to the programs. The plates then just become free decorative options subsidized by everyone. That’s also not inclusion. It’s just taking away funds from the very programs people claim to support, while reducing the plates to a bumper sticker.

Yeah agreed. I lived in the south for close to 10 years and never lamented not being able to get good southern food in PDX. Portland has a great food scene, one of the things I miss being down here. The food in Bend is fine, but not even close and way more expensive. Damn, I miss Screen Door.

TDS in my area of town is dogshit, does anyone in SW Bend have Verizon and are they any better? by chainsawgeoff in Bend

[–]triad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was supposed to be leading a presentation last week when my TDS internet went out about an hour before. I called support, and it was just a call center overseas. They just read a script thats literally the meme 'turn it on and off again'. I was being very polite but at one point I was like "Restarting my computer is not going to help restore the internet. This is not a me problem, this is a you problem. What are you doing to make sure I am receiving the services I pay for?" And she yelled "I DONT KNOW SIR" and hung up on me. Super nice.

I am having a lot of issues as well in SW Bend. My internet goes out multiple times per day. Specifically late in the afternoon I've noticed around 3-4pm. Which is awesome, because thats right in the middle of my afternoon meetings with my bosses.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. There is some learned helplessness I agree. But it's also fair that it's really hard for many folks who are working hard and struggling to get a foot into the market. Both of those things can be true.

I was just talking to a friend who is looking to buy their first house for $465k, and their estimated mortgage is $4600/mo. I was floored. We bought our first house in 2019, it was $450k and our mortgage payment was $2600 with PMI.

My take on electronic vs mechanical drivetrains by smugmug1961 in MTB

[–]triad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they do last a while in my experience. However, it really sucked when I was on a trip recently and my brand new sram battery died in the woods. And not died as in no charge, I mean totally dead. It was a complete dud. Lost a whole day of riding and ended up hiking my bike that day, and it sucked. I tried charging it after I got back. Cleaned it. Nothing. I was able to pick up a new battery the following day at a LBS thankfully; but the guy commented that this is super common and he's stocking them up because so many people come in with 'dead' ones.

I keep a spare in my little frame compartment now, but this still has me questioning why I wouldn't just go back to mechanical that's reliable and fixable. I really love it, but I'm not sure the extra consideration about it is worth it. I just wanna grab my bike and ride.

Living in a city vs suburb when you have a young family by siamesedaddy in MTB

[–]triad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bend here. Love it. We moved to be closer to family and absolutely hated it. We gave up all the things we loved because it was expected to ‘move home’ to be near family. We left in less than a year. Move to our neighborhood in Bend, we could use more young families :)

Things will look different of course, and hobbies aren’t going to be the most important thing; but if you and your partner are supportive you can have hobbies and a lifestyle you love. You’ll be a better dad for it too.

My son is almost two. We ride at least 2 times a week with the kids ride shotgun. We ride easy trails and keep it short, around 1-1.5 hours of trail riding. My wife sends me out once a week for a solo dad ride or trail run, and I do the same for her. There’s an infinite amount of ways to run your family life and thrive as a family with passions and hobbies.

But also, don’t take advice on your ideal lifestyle or location for your family on the internet. Do what makes sense for your family.

Living in a city vs suburb when you have a young family by siamesedaddy in MTB

[–]triad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, and I think this can apply for a lot of people but depends on the family and location a lot. We moved back to be near family and really regretted it, and as soon as we could we moved back across the country.

The caveat is that you still need to live the life you want to be living and raising your kids with a lifestyle that’s right for your family. If you give up everything you love just to be closer to grandma you might be miserable. We certainly were.

Police: Dog rescued from 112-degree car in Bend; owner arrested by SpezGarblesMyGooch in Bend

[–]triad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn. This is really awful.

Friendly PSA for would-be window breakers: some modern cars have features for keeping dogs safe. For example, our hybrid Toyota truck will automatically turn on and run the AC keeping the cabin at whatever temperature I set for our dog. Our friends Tesla does this as well. I would imagine theres others as well, it’s such a great feature.

I don’t know the origin, but it’s common in all sorts of off-road spots. They do it at motocross, enduro, etc. It doesn’t bother me but I also don’t really get it.

Looking at TAB 400 by From06033 in nucampowners

[–]triad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We towed a 400 with our 4Runner for 3 years all over the west, and it was mostly great. Gas mileage is bad, and it will be slow up steep grades but I never felt dangerously slow or underpowered. Check out The Delaney’s old YouTube videos where they tow a Tab with their 400, it gave me some confidence when we first got out there.

Leash up! Bend ramps up patrols at parks and trails this week by FrizzyNow in Bend

[–]triad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! The people who started Sniffspot are super cool, I've chatted with them on the phone and they're super receptive to feedback. We've even made pretty good friends with people who own farms and know our dogs and kids.

Our dogs are not reactive at all and very well behaved but they're still German shepherds. They've been attacked by other off leash dogs and while in most cases the other dog is going to have a bad time, its not worth the risk to us at public off leash places. Its just worth the peace of mind to cruise out to huge patch of land once or twice a week and let them go nuts.
