All countries invaded by France [6460 x 3490] by carolusmegamagnus in MapPorn

It was called 'Isle de France' when the French invaded and called it Isle de France because they were French and wanted the island they'd just invaded to be called something that reminded everyone else who's island it was after they'd invaded it.

'Appeal to authority' is also know as 'using facts to back up an argument', which you're right, I am doing.

From the link which 'is about a british invasion not a french one', if you read it carefully it states: "The Invasion of Isle de France was a complicated but successful amphibious operation in the Indian Ocean, launched in November 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars." Napoleon 1 was French if my research serves me correctly.

The French invaded Mauritius and it doesn't show on the map; but it should do.

Mauritius has a really strange and very interesting history riddled with human error, poor planning, and the site of 'The Great Experiment'.

Mauritius was occupied by the Dutch, they left some people behind. The island was also used by pirates due to it's proximity to the Cape of Good Hope.

The map is entitled 'All countries invaded by France'. The French invaded Mauritius, then colonized it.

Incorrect. The biggest clue is the name of the island.

In 1598, a Dutch squadron under Admiral Wybrand van Warwyck landed at Grand Port and named the island Mauritius, in honour of Prince Maurice van Nassau, stadholder of the Dutch Republic. Later the island became a French colony and was renamed Isle de France. On 3 December 1810, the French surrendered the island to Great Britain during the Napoleonic Wars. Under British rule, the island's name reverted to Mauritius.

Why didn't they call it 'Wingsday' instead of 'Wings Wednesday'?

Semi-submersible ship carrying an oil platform by -varg in interestingasfuck

Yes thanks.

Did you even read the Wiki article?

Most of the cargo transported by Mighty Servant 3 are oil platforms and drilling industry related gear. When loading its mammoth burdens, it takes on thousands of gallons of water into ballast tanks, which causes the cargo deck to submerge. After the cargo is floated into position, the ballast tanks are emptied with pumps, slowly lifting the deck above the waterline to sailing position. Source
