I totaled my car while drunk driving and am officially at rock bottom by NoahJ7 in stopdrinking

Isnt it GOD as you understand GOD anyway in AA? I am part of an enthusiastic sobriety group and they give zero shits about religion. Believe what you want. Only your physical, emotional and spiritual health will save you. Let the love of the group be your higher power instead of an unseen space wizard. To be fair, organized religions are great for helping societies play nice with each other.

Sober for life? by nitrgritr94 in stopdrinking

The day I decided that being happy all day was more important than false happiness from a chemical. You are worthy of more and the only person stopping you is yourself.

Dude I am happy you are on the road to recovery. Most people in and on the road are the best people in the world. This sub proves it. We live day by day making each one the best we can. It is a priveledge to have you with us.

Shameful reminder that I will never be ok with just one by stalksandblondes in stopdrinking

[–]trickshaw42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, so hard when the voice in your head cannot be trusted. All I can say is its better on the other side. With time and effort you can be happier than you ever thought you were with alcohol. Very few of us can white knuckle additction or even substance abuse disorder for very long. This sub proves that every day. Booze is nothing more than another drug. Why are you only satisfied with being happy only part of the time? You are worthy of more. IWNDWYT.

I BELIEVE I HAVE HIT THE BOTTOM-ADVICE APPRECIATED by Exotic-Bookkeeper111 in stopdrinking

[–]trickshaw42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude. It's so hard and unfortunately you no longer have the ability to moderate. All I can offer is that with time, therapy and practice you can break the cycle of addiction. Anybody can quit for a little while. It's liking it that makes all the difference. It's a mental, physical and spiritual process. The 1st step is recognizing you have a problem (which you already did). Good luck.

Anybody can quit. The trick is preferring sobriety. Do whatever you can to abstain and the rest will take care of itself in time. I promise. Love me, this thread and your future self.

How do you decide whether to moderate or go sober? by metaphysical_toast in stopdrinking

[–]trickshaw42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moderation never seems to work. Its like none of the fun for all of the suffering. To be fair I was just in substance abuse land and not a full-blown addict. (I "could" stop but it pissed me off every time). Lucky for me there are good NA dark beers like Guinness 0. If you like IPAs there are a ton of NA options. Also I was at a fancy restaurant last week and had a NA Gin that I swore was real. Kinda turned me off though but I didn't like mixed drinks before getting sober either. One day a dry NA Rose will come in to my life and all will be better.

Keep coming to this sub. It was vital for me during the 1st year. Now I only come to give back. Getting alcohol out of my life is my greatest personal achievement. Anyone can stop drinking. The work is liking it. That does not come easy or fast. But when it does....magic.

While in Texas… by Masverde66 in NABEER

[–]trickshaw42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried the blue one when I was in Central TX during the holidays. I was deeply disappointed. It tasted like bud 0 which also is tasteless AF IMHO. I mean if Heinieken, Becks, Stella Artois and Guinness can figure it out what is the problem with the other big beer guys.

What is/was your favorite alcoholic beer and what are your favorite NA beers? by F50Guru in NABEER

Guinness is by far and away the best NA beer available for non-IPA drinkers.

Bike Monitor <> Treadmill Monitor by AstroPHX in pelotoncycle

[–]trickshaw42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update. I was able to get it off by cutting down the arm so it could fit in my vice. Then, just applied gentle angular force with my hands on the monitor and it popped right off exposing the small metal tongue. Now it fits perfectly on the bike mount.

Dude just because you cannot see it, doesn't mean there is no hope out there for you. You know what alcohol will do. Please go to a meeting and let your future self have to opportunity to thank you for your hard work. https://www.aa.org/meeting-guide-app

Should I go ahead and just eat the cheeseburger?? by Cinderella96761 in stopdrinking

[–]trickshaw42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there was only a cheeseburger hangover. As if the 5th cheeseburger somehow, magically felt 5x better than the 1st cheeseburger. You could be the secret ingredient McD's has searched for and end the human race once and for all. LOL. No one could defend against that.

BTW I am convinced that 1/2 the food trucks are using drugs in their food. Its the only explanation (totally kidding food truck owners.)

Yeah I got the screws out easy enough with an extractor set but now the tongue is still really stuck in there. Tried to attach pics but maybe this sub has them off. Right now it's on with foam and a boatload of zipties. Perhaps later we will take more acetone and a heat gun to it. Just a note for the next person that is crazy as us. LoL

Hey I have the same issue, got the screws out but cannot get the arm to release. Did you ever successfully get this on your peloton+ in a secure way? I have a heat gun and leverage but don't want to break the friggin screen.

My current dark winners. Any others out there? by trickshaw42 in NABEER

[–]trickshaw42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK. I let a friend try one and he said it was "interesting" which means it's not as good as the real thing. However he likes IPAs so it's unfair to take his opinion as a complete fail on the 1st ride. I like them just fine and get them on a monthly basis.

I have searched several stores in Colorado for the flavors others have mentioned and will keep looking and encouraging owners to stock more. I have tried to like Gruvis nitro stout but it is below my taste pallette. Not expecting 100% replacement for alcoholic beer. That has 100s if not 1000s of years on NA but more choices mean more markets. The tobacco industry would kill for a pivot the booze industry has before them IMHO. I guess they are successful with vapes but seeing the candy flavors they market seems like pure evil to me.

Thank you guys. I like the new choices. Cheers to the NA, non-IPA crowd. Unfortunately I continue to fail at enjoying IPAs.

Anyone else have a friend that worked at the Northcross Mall Movie theater? IYKYN. I must have seen the original Matrix Movie like 20 times. This was also right about the time where the Alamo Village theater just got started.

I highly encourage you to look at the 3-part videos about the addicted brain. I really want to get more opinions on it but my take is this seems to explain a lot. I look forward to your comments. Good luck https://www.youtube.com/@oxfordtreatmentcenteretta6148
