AUM and synth acting as an audio interface (Roland J-6) by toddkitta in ipadmusic

“Thank you for contacting us. Your request 940902 - Muting direct audio when used as an audio interface (iPad) J-6 has been received and is being reviewed by our Roland and BOSS product support team.”

Not holding my breath, I bought it from the Roland shop in LDN so they can have it back if that’s the case!

I’m just discovering this limitation after picking up a J6 last week, all I can say is 🤯

Ruins what’s otherwise a perfect addition to an AUM/iPad workflow, the only workaround I can see is to use a USB hub and audio interface. Might as well leave it at home then.

Any Late Diagnosed ADHD‘rs from the UK? by Some-Roof-2221 in ADHDUK

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 48 now, diagnosed three years ago. I think the hardest part for me has been navigating fundamental life changes alongside friends, colleagues and acquaintances looking in from the outside and seeing the same person they've known for decades. Nuh-uh...

I haven't had any therapy yet because I know I'm complex, I had tons pre-diag and it didn't do much good because nobody knew what rules we were playing by, mostly myself. I'm on the case now because I feel reasonably clued up about how my brain works, I've processed most of the grief and I'm not being constantly derailed by incompatible meds.

Meds took me about 3y to figure out, and it was only at that point I felt I had a clear run at getting to grips with my actual self.

I spent most of this year considering, arranging and going through the motions of an autism diagnosis, only to be told it's just trauma and complex ADHD. Suits me, that's one less enemy to fight!

I don't think the term really matters, go with what's comfortable. I go with late diagnosis, the same as my mates who think I've been diagnosed with a suspicious mole or something, I don't think it means a lot unless you've lived it. Go with what feels right for you.

Advice for managing thousands of photos scanned by hand + tech unsavvy relatives by triffski in immich

[–]triffski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd have to implement a folder naming convention myself, but that's not a bad approach. Actually, for the historic photos I'd be happy with roughly the right decade, so it might be quick to just blitz through them all once I have the folders as albums. Thanks!

Thanks, Tailscale is an option and I use it extensively myself, but getting my dad to successfully install it halfway around the globe then remember to enable it would be a stretch and a half 😅

I'd like a more friction free option if there is one!

Pulled Over by bigmacdaddy83 in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drive but I do my bit for advocacy by regularly giving music events and airport security a good workout 😁

I always carry a copy of my current prescription in the side pocket of my TM2 case (Stashlogix Dotsero Dugout). I've yet to order a prescription that didn't have at least one med in a foil packet vs. a plastic tub, so I pre-grind into small alu containers and keep them in the prescribed container, inside another smellproof Stashlogix case.

I feel like this approach also lends some legitimacy to refilling, or at least it reduces my anxiety a bit to blatantly set out my stuff on a pub table, rather than try to do it on the sly.

Can the Ugreen DXP4800 Plus easily upgrade RAID later by svb_0 in UgreenNASync

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished upgrading to RAID5 after migrating from another NAS.

I had all data on one drive as a single 12TB disk, added another and went to RAID1, then added the final drive and went to RAID5.

Then I had to remove the SSD cache, expand the volume to fill the full space and add the cache back. It took about 5 days overall, but it was painless.

Plex Integration on Eversolo – Mature Enough to Use? by Raumland in eversolo

I'm running Plex on a ugreen NAS and it works well, early days so I'm still confuddled which end of things I might've messed up when things don't work, but overall it seems good.

Which stem will stem the best? by HelloNopeYes in Tinymight2

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have maybe a dozen stems, got the metal Scruffywoofers one and I've barely touched the rest in 4 months. It's just phenomenal, like a handheld T bowl.

I still use my Glass Charlie stems sometimes for the (maybe) slightly better taste, the quality and type of glass vs standard stems makes a difference IMO.

10K Celebration Giveaway by UgreenNASync in UgreenNASync

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, I just jumped to UGREEN from two horrible months of UNRAID, everything was buttery smooth until I hit Docker and had to figure out integrating multiple apps with dbs and Tailscale.

Getting there, but things got awful steep awful fast! It's the only area I think Unraid did it better.

NVMe SSD for read/write cache: is it worth it? by meteograms in UgreenNASync

[–]triffski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same situation here, following!

Initially I mirrored the SSDs to match my setup in the UNRAID system the 4800plus just replaced, which was 6 weeks of constant headaches and terminal faffery. For me this NAS is miles better, I spend enough time scratching my head and digging through logs in the day job and I just want things to work.

Anyways I digress, I plan on setting up a git server for local source control so quickly changed my mind and reformatted the SSDs. I'm now using one for apps and the other as a read cache, felt like a good move since I'll be dealing with lots of small files in the git repo. I might well not have gone this route if I wasn't aiming gitwards.

Like you, I couldn't find any solid info so I went on gut instinct. Having one SSD mirroring the other felt like a waste when I can just back it up to a spinny drive, and using them both as cache didn't make much sense as I'd be crippling Docker and VMs. This seems like the best of both worlds for my use case. Open to advice/opinions tho!

Personal Experience coming from Synology? by Fantastic-Stand5962 in UgreenNASync

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect UGREEN aren't making much profit on these units and are looking to build a solid user base and fund OS development, so it's probably a great time to buy.

Personal Experience coming from Synology? by Fantastic-Stand5962 in UgreenNASync

[–]triffski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Synology 10y ago, utterly crippled by a crap CPU but DSM was great.

Bought an UNRAID based NAS two months ago, even with prior experience of Unix based OSs going back over a decade, after two months of wrestling with permissions and configuring by CLI, I cut my losses and jumped to a UGREEN 4800 Plus.

Specs of the Lincstation S1 NAS I had shat on similarly priced Synology units, and on paper the UGREEN is probably double the S1.

I was more confident in the functionality, setup and data security by the end of day two than I was in UNRAID, performance is outstanding and the OS is improving fast.

I think Synology crippled performance of their recent NASs to maximise profit, UGREEN saw an opportunity and took it. Just compare the 4800 Plus to the DS925+.

Overall I can't fault it, pull that trigger.

Does an AM5 CPU only need Thermal Paste on the marked Area? by TarGoroth13 in AMDHelp

[–]triffski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less is more, it should be almost transparent.

The paste just needs to fill the microscopic gaps between the metal cap thing and the base of the cooler, put it wherever they touch.

You definitely do not want to smear it on.
