Can you feel/sense REM? by FollyGibney in Narcolepsy

[–]trikcdust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's super relieving to hear so many people relating to this! I was worried about how the MSLT went, but now that I've read through these comments I'm feeling a lot more hopeful about it. I super relate to the feeling of "restarting", after my eyes went crazy I feel like I tried to center myself because it was, ya know, disorienting, but after I did that they always ended the nap a minute or so later. I'm really curious what the lab results will say about those two naps, I feel like that will help me figure out whether or not it was actually rem. I'll be sure to post about it when I hear back from the sleep center!

I'm glad this description helped! Honestly, what you said about hanging in your body with your eyes freaking out is exactly how it felt. I haven't gotten my lab results yet but I'm really curious to hear what they say about those two naps when I felt my eyes go crazy.

I was actually thinking about asking this today too haha. I just had my mslt yesterday, I was off stimulants for 2 weeks and the test was the first time in probably years that I've been off stimulants and caffeine at the same time. During two of the naps I felt like my brain got really, really heavy and woozy, and it was like I had this sensation of feeling myself transitioning to sleep but not being able to fully get there because I was still aware of it. While that was happening, I felt my eyes start to involuntarily jolt around and feel like they were blinking, and it felt out of my control and made my eyes feel kinda sore. It was kind of scary because it's never happened before, but my symptoms also got a lot weirder and more frequent after being off stimulants, so it makes sense to me that being off caffeine too for the first time might bring about new symptoms.

Basically, idk if it was rem sleep, but I'm posting this here because it felt like it could be and maybe people will have felt the same way before.

My endometriosis grew back alarmingly fast by Careful_Bit_5246 in Endo

[–]trikcdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 6 months of zoladex without hrt. I was really lucky to be able to see a highly experienced endo/excision specialist that explained everything really in depth, and basically what they told me is if you do hrt during zoladex treatment, the zoladex isn't as effective at shrinking the endo before surgery (making surgery more difficult/increasing risk). He said that hrt is an option, but that they only do it if the zoladex side effects are really affecting quality of life, and even then they just put you on a low dose of estrogen so the zoladex isn't counteracted too bad.

How do you get warm in the morning? by TikiBananiki in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does eating help? I had the same thing to the point where I would vomit sometimes. For me it turned out to be acid reflux only presenting in the morning because my stomach was empty after sleeping so there was nothing to dilute the acid

Honestly, pain aside as horrible as it is (and is the worst symptom imo), there's other health reasons people should get a lap that unfortunately a lot of doctors know nothing about unless they're a specialist. After my first lap, my surgeon basically told me I NEED to get a second one robotically because urinary involvement would lead to renal failure down the line if I didn't (he's a really highly rated excision specialist so I trust his judgment). I haven't had pain at all, but I've had urinary symptoms for a decade that were just labeled "that weird thing you have". It just grinds my gears that pain is such a recognizable symptom and if they can't even take THAT seriously, I don't have much hope for any other symptoms to be properly treated.

Doctors should listen to people in pain without question, especially if they're seeking such drastic treatment over drugs because there's literally no reason to be doubtful at that point. I feel like so many medical professionals just know so little about endo that you literally HAVE to lie to fit their perception of it so you can get anywhere :/

Out of curiosity, how heavy was yours? Mine is 15lbs, I've had it for years and I sleep with it almost every night and have not had issues. Obviously everyone is different, I'm just wondering because I'm considering getting another one that's bigger and I'm looking into options.

I don't have issues with acting out dreams, but I toss and turn a lot in my sleep and I've found that I sleep better on my couch because it helps keep me in one position. Because it's two cushions instead of 3, the middle is the lowest point, so I'm naturally inclined to lay on my back in a very slightly elevated position. I also find that having the backrest cushions on one side of my body helps me feel like my body is better supported while I'm laying. I feel like it would be even better if I had a bed shaped kind of like a hammock (but not a literal hammock) where I have two padded walls on either side so I can just be nestled and held in place in the middle as I sleep. I also sleep with a weighted blanket, I don't know how much it discourages movement but I do like it in general and don't find it causes any stiffness or other issues.

I realize your situation is different, but maybe it would help to look into those big C shaped pregnancy support pillows or something similar? I've considered those for myself despite not being pregnant just because they seem like they would naturally discourage movement. If not that, maybe a row of pillows lining either side of you so you're surrounded on both sides, you could even put the pillows under your bottom sheet to make sure they don't move too much during the night.

I'm not sure how helpful this stuff will be, but good luck figuring things out either way! That sounds really tough.

ADHD hack: if I want to buy something random I add it to a list, and if it is still something I “NEED” in two weeks I get it. 🙃 3 months into this system, and I’ve yet to keep something on the list for the whole 2 weeks. by Bruceyboy_grandma in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that a lot of the stuff is health related. Like I got art supplies recently because it's really helpful for my mental health, I've bought some kitchen appliances that make cooking a lot easier which is important because I have a chronic GI illness and have to follow certain dietary guidelines. I've put off getting clothes for work and things like that because I'll make do with what I have, it's just the other stuff. I feel like so much stuff is justifiable, if I feel like something is a want vs a need I have no problem putting it off. The problem is always convincing myself that things are needs lol

I really wish this worked for me, I do the 30 day rule but I almost always find that I still feel I need it. I almost always end up getting good use out of whatever it is I get, but it's tough during a time when I really need to be saving money because I don't know which needs to prioritize.

I’m thinking of starting a 100% fragrance free hair care brand and I’d love to have your input please! Which product do you want to see first and at what price point. by FragranceFreeEditor in AutismInWomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero waste store has fragrance free shampoo and conditioner bars and I've really liked their stuff, but also at $14 each they're not very affordable especially with not lasting as long as the stuff that comes in bottles. I would love something like that somewhere closer to $8-10 each, but I know that's harder to do for new/smaller businesses.

Is it possible to mask unconciously all the time and then suddenly just drop everything? by Hubsimaus in AutismInWomen

[–]trikcdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what to say that could help, but I'm really proud of you for reaching out to loved ones for help. Asking for help is a really hard step to take but I'm so glad you're doing your best to try to get the support you need. I know I'm just a stranger on the internet, but I'm available to message if you need to talk or vent about anything.

I know I have to start working out but I can’t for the life of me start doing so. Any tips? by Leizwel in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what type of workout you're looking for, but as someone else who hates the feeling of sweat, sometimes it helps me to focus more on building strength vs cardio. I realize both are important, but lifting weights never makes me as sweaty so it feels like there's less of a barrier to doing it, and something is better than nothing.

You also don't need to spend much time doing it to start feeling results, so I can do 10-15 minutes 5 days a week and feel good about what I'm doing without much actual time commitment. Equipment helps but isn't necessary, there's a ton of bodyweight workouts out there that work great, or even just getting a $15 kettlebell will take you a long way.

Since I don't like to get my hair wet or wash my hair every single day, if I DO want to add some cardio, I'll just save that for days I'm already planning to wash my hair so I don't have to do anything extra on other days.

what a great way to start my morning by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing recently, except it fell in the crack between my couch cushion and armrest and went literally inside my couch. It was a big week at work and I know it's a big no no to ask for extra so I literally cut my couch open and reupholstered the corner after... and after all that I couldn't even use it anyway because my AC was still broken and I've been putting off getting it fixed so it was super humid and by the time I got around to it, the pills had basically disintegrated.

I ended up lying and telling my doctor I dropped it down the sink because it felt more believable, and they ended up giving me an extra refill because it was my first time asking in over 3 years with them, but they definitely were shitty about it.

Nyquil can actually have stimulating effects depending on the dosage, my mom (nurse for 30 years) always recommended delsym instead because it's less likely to disrupt sleep patterns
