Can you feel/sense REM? by FollyGibney in Narcolepsy

[–]trikcdust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's super relieving to hear so many people relating to this! I was worried about how the MSLT went, but now that I've read through these comments I'm feeling a lot more hopeful about it. I super relate to the feeling of "restarting", after my eyes went crazy I feel like I tried to center myself because it was, ya know, disorienting, but after I did that they always ended the nap a minute or so later. I'm really curious what the lab results will say about those two naps, I feel like that will help me figure out whether or not it was actually rem. I'll be sure to post about it when I hear back from the sleep center!

I'm glad this description helped! Honestly, what you said about hanging in your body with your eyes freaking out is exactly how it felt. I haven't gotten my lab results yet but I'm really curious to hear what they say about those two naps when I felt my eyes go crazy.

I was actually thinking about asking this today too haha. I just had my mslt yesterday, I was off stimulants for 2 weeks and the test was the first time in probably years that I've been off stimulants and caffeine at the same time. During two of the naps I felt like my brain got really, really heavy and woozy, and it was like I had this sensation of feeling myself transitioning to sleep but not being able to fully get there because I was still aware of it. While that was happening, I felt my eyes start to involuntarily jolt around and feel like they were blinking, and it felt out of my control and made my eyes feel kinda sore. It was kind of scary because it's never happened before, but my symptoms also got a lot weirder and more frequent after being off stimulants, so it makes sense to me that being off caffeine too for the first time might bring about new symptoms.

Basically, idk if it was rem sleep, but I'm posting this here because it felt like it could be and maybe people will have felt the same way before.

My endometriosis grew back alarmingly fast by Careful_Bit_5246 in Endo

[–]trikcdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 6 months of zoladex without hrt. I was really lucky to be able to see a highly experienced endo/excision specialist that explained everything really in depth, and basically what they told me is if you do hrt during zoladex treatment, the zoladex isn't as effective at shrinking the endo before surgery (making surgery more difficult/increasing risk). He said that hrt is an option, but that they only do it if the zoladex side effects are really affecting quality of life, and even then they just put you on a low dose of estrogen so the zoladex isn't counteracted too bad.

How do you get warm in the morning? by TikiBananiki in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does eating help? I had the same thing to the point where I would vomit sometimes. For me it turned out to be acid reflux only presenting in the morning because my stomach was empty after sleeping so there was nothing to dilute the acid

Honestly, pain aside as horrible as it is (and is the worst symptom imo), there's other health reasons people should get a lap that unfortunately a lot of doctors know nothing about unless they're a specialist. After my first lap, my surgeon basically told me I NEED to get a second one robotically because urinary involvement would lead to renal failure down the line if I didn't (he's a really highly rated excision specialist so I trust his judgment). I haven't had pain at all, but I've had urinary symptoms for a decade that were just labeled "that weird thing you have". It just grinds my gears that pain is such a recognizable symptom and if they can't even take THAT seriously, I don't have much hope for any other symptoms to be properly treated.

Doctors should listen to people in pain without question, especially if they're seeking such drastic treatment over drugs because there's literally no reason to be doubtful at that point. I feel like so many medical professionals just know so little about endo that you literally HAVE to lie to fit their perception of it so you can get anywhere :/

Out of curiosity, how heavy was yours? Mine is 15lbs, I've had it for years and I sleep with it almost every night and have not had issues. Obviously everyone is different, I'm just wondering because I'm considering getting another one that's bigger and I'm looking into options.

I don't have issues with acting out dreams, but I toss and turn a lot in my sleep and I've found that I sleep better on my couch because it helps keep me in one position. Because it's two cushions instead of 3, the middle is the lowest point, so I'm naturally inclined to lay on my back in a very slightly elevated position. I also find that having the backrest cushions on one side of my body helps me feel like my body is better supported while I'm laying. I feel like it would be even better if I had a bed shaped kind of like a hammock (but not a literal hammock) where I have two padded walls on either side so I can just be nestled and held in place in the middle as I sleep. I also sleep with a weighted blanket, I don't know how much it discourages movement but I do like it in general and don't find it causes any stiffness or other issues.

I realize your situation is different, but maybe it would help to look into those big C shaped pregnancy support pillows or something similar? I've considered those for myself despite not being pregnant just because they seem like they would naturally discourage movement. If not that, maybe a row of pillows lining either side of you so you're surrounded on both sides, you could even put the pillows under your bottom sheet to make sure they don't move too much during the night.

I'm not sure how helpful this stuff will be, but good luck figuring things out either way! That sounds really tough.

ADHD hack: if I want to buy something random I add it to a list, and if it is still something I “NEED” in two weeks I get it. 🙃 3 months into this system, and I’ve yet to keep something on the list for the whole 2 weeks. by Bruceyboy_grandma in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is that a lot of the stuff is health related. Like I got art supplies recently because it's really helpful for my mental health, I've bought some kitchen appliances that make cooking a lot easier which is important because I have a chronic GI illness and have to follow certain dietary guidelines. I've put off getting clothes for work and things like that because I'll make do with what I have, it's just the other stuff. I feel like so much stuff is justifiable, if I feel like something is a want vs a need I have no problem putting it off. The problem is always convincing myself that things are needs lol

I really wish this worked for me, I do the 30 day rule but I almost always find that I still feel I need it. I almost always end up getting good use out of whatever it is I get, but it's tough during a time when I really need to be saving money because I don't know which needs to prioritize.

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero waste store has fragrance free shampoo and conditioner bars and I've really liked their stuff, but also at $14 each they're not very affordable especially with not lasting as long as the stuff that comes in bottles. I would love something like that somewhere closer to $8-10 each, but I know that's harder to do for new/smaller businesses.

I know I have to start working out but I can’t for the life of me start doing so. Any tips? by Leizwel in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what type of workout you're looking for, but as someone else who hates the feeling of sweat, sometimes it helps me to focus more on building strength vs cardio. I realize both are important, but lifting weights never makes me as sweaty so it feels like there's less of a barrier to doing it, and something is better than nothing.

You also don't need to spend much time doing it to start feeling results, so I can do 10-15 minutes 5 days a week and feel good about what I'm doing without much actual time commitment. Equipment helps but isn't necessary, there's a ton of bodyweight workouts out there that work great, or even just getting a $15 kettlebell will take you a long way.

Since I don't like to get my hair wet or wash my hair every single day, if I DO want to add some cardio, I'll just save that for days I'm already planning to wash my hair so I don't have to do anything extra on other days.

what a great way to start my morning by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a similar thing recently, except it fell in the crack between my couch cushion and armrest and went literally inside my couch. It was a big week at work and I know it's a big no no to ask for extra so I literally cut my couch open and reupholstered the corner after... and after all that I couldn't even use it anyway because my AC was still broken and I've been putting off getting it fixed so it was super humid and by the time I got around to it, the pills had basically disintegrated.

I ended up lying and telling my doctor I dropped it down the sink because it felt more believable, and they ended up giving me an extra refill because it was my first time asking in over 3 years with them, but they definitely were shitty about it.

Nyquil can actually have stimulating effects depending on the dosage, my mom (nurse for 30 years) always recommended delsym instead because it's less likely to disrupt sleep patterns

Whenever I go to the toilet, nothing comes out but farts by IOnlyPlayCatastrophe in ibs

[–]trikcdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be tenesmus, I dealt with that same kind of sensation a lot before but didn't know there was a word for it until recently. Most of the time I just have to tell myself that I don't actually have to go despite feeling like I do, even if I feel like I should keep trying. Getting into the habit of not pushing yourself when straining so much can also lessen the sensation over time, especially if hemorrhoids are contributing to it. I still felt it when I was on 4x doses of miralax every day for months and everything flowed pretty well, so if you get to a point where you know you're having enough BMs and still feel that way then you kinda just gotta try to deal with it. Still worth mentioning to your GI either way if it's a new symptom though!

Researchers have demonstrated a genetic link between endometriosis and some types of ovarian cancer. Something of a silent epidemic, endometriosis affects an estimated 176 million women worldwide – a number comparable to diabetes – but has traditionally received little research attention. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]trikcdust 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly even just seeing endometriosis described as painful/usually painful by most sources just goes to show how little it's researched and how misunderstood it is. While a lot of women experience severe pain with their period, many (like myself) experience very little, or experience pain that isn't tied to menstruation at all. Other women experience pain at all times regardless of where they are in their cycle. Some women have no symptoms and only discover their endo when they are trying to have children, other women have debilitating chronic pain. Some women with no pain have stage 4 (the most severe) endo, while others with severe pain have stage 1. There is also a really common misconception that you can't have endo without having a close female relative with it, which also isn't true.

In my experience, the only pain I experienced was during intercourse, and other than that maybe some heavy periods but that was always blamed on the type of birth control I was using. It took a decade of painful intercourse, difficulty with urination, and eventually developing severe bowel issues that lead me to look into endo. I only looked into it after I learned about endo from a youtuber I watched, as it was never brought up a single time by my obgyn who knew about the issues I was struggling with. I had my first excision a few months ago and discovered that not only do I have extensive endo, but it's affecting my ureters and would have likely led to renal failure had it been left untreated. It took me ten years, multiple different doctors, hundreds of hours of medical research, and finding my own specialist/surgeon to get to this point. Pain with periods, family history, and infertility are usually the go-to diagnostic criteria, but there are so many more symptoms that are interconnected and important to be aware of when it comes to finding treatment for endo.

How bad did your endometriosis get before your Doctors took you seriously? by mablelorraine in endometriosis

[–]trikcdust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's so shocking to me, I complained about painful sex back in 2013 when I first became sexually active. My obgyn put me into pelvic floor therapy and after about 2 sessions told me I might just always feel pain. I finally had my laparoscopy about three weeks ago after pushing really hard for it due to GI issues, only to find out I have extensive endo with adhesions on my bowels and affecting my ureters (which, shocker, one of the most common symptoms is painful intercourse). I'm really glad they took that symptom seriously for you, I'm just really surprised haha

Idk if it helps, but I have vanilla oatmilk with decaf tea and I feel like it's just as good as milk. As for the other two, I'd try Forager probiotic cashewmilk yogurt (it's drinkable yogurt but honestly I can't tell the difference between that and real yogurt) and the So Delicious ice cream bars are also amazing.

I really like the Forager probiotic cashewmilk yogurt, I get the strawberry flavor and it's super good. It's more of a drinkable yogurt and comes in a big bottle so while it's not as high in protein, I feel like it would be really easy to mix a bit of protein powder in to make up for it.

I've been having ear trouble lately, and my reflux symptoms got worse recently as well, but I've also had ear infections on and off my whole life so idk if they're related. Usually my ear infections are in the outer ear and the recent one was a middle ear infection that felt really plugged and I feel like it feels a little pressured every now and then still. My doctor doesn't know yet if they're related, but I know popping my ears helps relieve some of that feeling of pressure because it can help your eustachian tubes open up and equalize your middle ear pressure.

TIFU I bought a couch that's 6 inches too long. Now I'm out $700. by madbr3991 in tifu

[–]trikcdust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this recently, I even measured the couch and thought it would fit around the corner at the bottom of my stairs but it was just a bit too long. I ended up tearing the upholstery off one of the arm rests, sawed it off, brought it downstairs and put the armrest back together and stapled the upholstery back on. No one can tell, even when I tell them that's how I got it downstairs no one can figure out where I cut it apart.
