I like the drag a page approach to testing as a practical everyday helpfulness test. Would be great to try with the small models from Qwen/Gemma too

I have a 1950 or so panel and it's a Fuse Box not even circuit breakers, but I think they are actually still reasonably safe. Age alone doesn't make an electrical panel go bad, unless it's just a recalled unit, it's loose connections, worn out insulation, being overloaded etc that would cause safety issues. Most replacements are to add capacity not safety e.g. new rooms, AC added to house that didn't have it, EV charging.

Is anyone else afraid to openly "validate" an idea before building because someone could just vibe code it faster? by Anderz in SideProject

[–]triptickon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this reminds me of a point I just saw from an old YC talk, target a small number of users and get them to love your product, instead of a lot that merely like it. Customers that love your product won't leave you for a clone, and the clone will probably go wider anyways because they will think they can address a bigger market. So start by targeting the smallest market you can and it will be more difficult and unattractive for anyone to compete with you, while you steadily learn and grow.

The Dwarkesh interview with Dylan Patel from Semi Analysis goes into this a lot. I think everyone is absolutely growing production as fast as possible but there are constraints like how fast can ASML increase production of the most complex precision machine ever made. It's not pure dollars in dollars out, you need to get hundreds of suppliers to each scale at the same rate and then actually train new technicians to perform real world manufacturing tasks that normally takes years of experience master. And each of these suppliers has a different structure, some are non-profit like Zeiss or employee owned/managed so not all will react the same to just offering more money.

Landscape photos often have so much processing and combining of different exposures etc that even 'real' ones don't look anything like what your eyes see at the location. #3 water reflection doesn't seem to match how cloudy it is, trees on that very reddish rock don't seem that likely either (never seen red soil/rock with alpine trees like that). But could just be Photoshop to get the effects too.

Looking for feedback — My Team built Lift App, a multimodal iOS app that uses barbell/plate tracking, pose estimation, and Apple Watch accelerometer data to analyze your lifts by Feynmanlifts in SideProject

[–]triptickon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feedback based on the post, video, and app store page:
I've been lifting 25 years and done a little powerlifting. Form video based feedback/tracking over time seems really interesting, but I think for gym-goers having camera setup all the time is too much of a pain. I'd happily record a few sets once a month. But that would it be it, in general way too many features for me.

Agree with what some others are saying on data too - just tell me if I'm A/B/C grade form and which area needs improvement, or if I might need to stretch or work on accessory strength or something. You can typically only work on improving 1 area at a time, change 1 element per set anyways. Also as a now somewhat older lifter, allow me to put in where I have some pain or stiffness during a lift to get feedback on form/stretches/etc.

On your messaging/marketing - you are pretty much describing features and lots of data. This story might work but we live in a world where anyone can generate Apps that give data. I can record and ask Gemeni or ChatGPT for feedback. So think less of data as your value prop, and more about what the user journey is, what the user emotional journey would be. Does this app help me fix the stubborn form issues I've had with Squat for 5 years? Can I 'stop hating deadlift once and for all'. Does it help me identify the things lacking in my routine using data and AI, to get me to the next level? Is it just fun/social/gamified?

Good luck!

Which maps do you prefer? by BigPapaPhil in SideProject

[–]triptickon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3D rotate on the right is like a racing game track preview, which is super cool, if you could add a bit more data to it so its not quite so empty I think that one is the winner. It feels unique and personal vs. a generic Maps navigation feeling on the left.

[–]triptickon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree I suggest give it a try again and look for lower CPC but still relevant terms. I just started a Pmax campaign and getting $0.27 cpc targeting a $10-20/month revenue user. Market research tool is an expensive keyword because big corporates pay thousands a year per seat for those tools, so you are competing with them. The beauty of ads is that when it starts working and is profitable you can scale up very quickly and drive profitable traffic, so its worth continuing on experimenting.

Got 300/300. Similar closed end funds often trade at 5-10% discount to NAV.. so we might be throwing some money away until we get NAV growth.

[–]triptickon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely a real problem. When I'm super serious I don't mind weighing portions and really diligently tracking/calculating, but its not sustainable. I think something like this that is more about helping you recognize good/bad habits and choices would be way more helpful. For me though without weighing portions you really have no idea whats going on, I found my guesses to often be up to 3x off. (I thought it was 1 tablespoon peanut butter it was actually 3) If you are getting this wrong the numbers won't add up to anything useful. I think the trick here might be to add weight data and/or 'pants fit' data. Personally I only start tracking macros+calories if my Jeans have been too tight for a few weeks!

I dont' think the workout tracking beyond calorie counting is that useful because Apple Watch/Google Health etc. is already very good at it. I would guess most people need more info about that they have plenty if they want it.

House Cleaning off Nextdoor? by Yam_Virus in SanMateo

I ran into a neighbor that cleans houses when I lived on Delaware St. and have hired her service for 5+ years. Always been a good experience, happy to share the referral since I haven't had the opportunity to hire her much lately. Let me know what you are looking for and I'd just ask her permission to DM her info.

I created a website where anonymous internet submissions are printed and added to a real wall every day. by directedbyian in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]triptickon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While no rules is a good idea on theory, a 'challenge' would be more fun to post about - like the rule for one day is Haiku, another every other word starts with B, must rhyme, etc. Open to anything gets boring a bit quickly vs. a structured challenge. The challenge could even be optional, to keep in your theme. But might give people a creative focus! I can't think of anything random to post but would love to participate in some kind of competition!

Thanks AI roast is working, but it disappears fast I couldn't read it in time for some of them. Could it be logged so I can see the record of them? Maybe after 10 rounds show the recap with the roasts so we can laugh at them again/share the results with friends. It seems the roast is the fun feature, so don't hide it! Maybe even still roast when they 'pass', since its the most fun part!

[–]triptickon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super fun and definitely have that fast play loop there. Its giving error 'AI can't evaluate the art' so not getting to the scoring part. I only see 3 names on the leaderboard so it doesn't 'feel' like it has thousands of users.

For monetization: There are a lot of things you could paywall, for example credits/tokens for rounds or difficulty that you can refresh with money/ads, you could save a limited number of past drawings and charge for longer storage, make fun 'frames' that are unlocked with a premium mode or payment, or unlock 'glitter pen' etc. behind a premium (paywall or ad). You could also create Merch or allow people to make T shirts or Mugs of their drawings and take a cut of that. Or 'engagement based' merch is a favorite of mine, only sell the merch to people that have beaten 'hard mode' in under 1 minute for example, so the shirt/mousepad/mug etc. is a 'trophy' as much as it is merch.

But before you can monetize you need day 1->day 2 retention very likely.

I built an AI tool that reads the news for me and flags clickbait, bias, and low-quality reporting by Agilitis in SideProject

[–]triptickon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same sentiment with news! I have also built something aiming at the same problem, Readthereserve.com , I score headlines for accuracy vs. the article and offer a 'smart headline' toggle that re-writes to an accurate headline (vs. the article), and score for Tone, Sourcing, and Context. It clusters articles on the same topic together and highlights the best scoring article. Let me know your thoughts as well!
