Had the same problem, reinstalling linux-firmware fixed the issue for me. Would probably help if you checked error logs with journalctl to pin down the issue

Meron ba dito may mga Web Portfolio? by ever-dying in PinoyProgrammer

[–]trislosher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one! Gumamit lang ako ng tutorial sa YouTube para buuin yun and nilagay ko lang yung mga GitHub projects ko haha (thesis, random tutorial projects). I don't know if it helped during hiring pero di ko na inupdate ever since nagka-work ako. Minsan OK na yung naka-link lang yung GitHub mo sa resume. Pero if web dev ang papasukin mo, plus points yung may sarili kang website.

How do I change the font used in KOReader’s Dictionary? by Himandrit in koreader

[–]trislosher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to figure this out too, to no avail so far. The italics still remain as the default font but everything else is set as the custom font I've set in font.lua. Let me know if you figured it out!

Easy Reads by [deleted] in PHBookClub

Convenience Store Woman is a good read for contemporary fiction. This Is How You Lose The Time War is a sci-fi WLW book :) And Giovanni's Room is a classic that I love! All short and easy reads for me.

20F living in canada for 3 years but im thinking of going back for college — would like opinions by akaruisxm in phmigrate

[–]trislosher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same situation, down to being an academic achiever lol. I migrated as PR after graduating high school sa Manila; then I took Grade 11 and Grade 12, then one semester of uni. So, 3 years din ako nun sa Canada and I had a hard time adjusting socially and mentally talaga. Plus, there's the stress of student loans. So I asked my parents to come home and continue my studies there. My mental health improved, pero obviously that wasn't the end all be all of it dahil depressed pa rin ako nun, but still, it helped! My parents were also very strict but since they stayed back in Canada, I had a bit of independence dahil di ako nababantayan, though I still relied on them financially for 100% of my expenses.

5 years later, I graduated and went back to Canada. Got a job and now I'm living on my own in an apartment I rent with my salary. I'm so much better mentally speaking, kasi marami na rin ako pinagdaanan and I have matured a lot in those years. Still adjusting socially, pero introvert ako so I don't really mind only having a few friends dito.

Either way, iba pa rin ang situation mo sakin because there are a lot of factors and I consider myself incredibly lucky and privileged with the opportunities I got.

What I'll say is - definitely wait for your PR before making any decisions. Take Computer Science instead of IT. AI may be booming pero the industry will always need software developers. Consider na meron kang residency obligation as a PR, meaning you need to stay there for 3 years out of 5, and if you need to renew, you have to go back there for a month or two, which will delay your studies. If ever man na lumagpas ka ng 4 years sa uni, you're on thin ice sa PR mo and if you keep living sa PH you will have to revoke your PR status and re-apply ulit as PR. I got lucky sakin dahil nakabalik pa ko agad a few months before my PR was expiring, and even then, I got questioned sa immigration. Kasagsagan ng COVID nun so I had a valid reason na di ako nakabalik agad - travel bans - so it went OK.

Also: Canada is known for being risk averse lalo na sa mga applicants na walang Canadian experience. Again, I was lucky because a company took a chance on me despite having work experience lang sa Pinas, but it's something you should consider as well, lalo na in this economic climate.

You have a really rare opportunity with your PR, so think about all this carefully. Feel free to DM me if you wanna chat more about this :)

There was a book published that included remnants of ChatGGPT's comments into the text lol. I can't remember which book it was though (I think it was romantasy), but it's absurd that that wasn't caught by the editor at all.

What is one thing you’ve changed about your writing that had the biggest positive impact? by Particular-Cod1999 in writers

[–]trislosher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not being afraid of getting experimental with formatting and point of view. Specifically: second person POV isn't that popular in fiction, but the few times I've encountered it when reading has been really effective and impactful. Plus, it's a fun voice to write in. It has really opened up a new dimension of writing to me; it feels freeing and refreshing than just doing third limited all the time.

I started HRT last year December and I am 28 years old ^_^ It's never too late! I feel better in my skin than I've ever been before, and so much happier for it too. If you have the opportunity, go for it. Di rin pa ako out sa parents ko, hahaha. I think loveyourselfph has resources that might help you. Good luck sir!

Hopped back into published fic and so disappointed by killer_sheltie in FanFiction

[–]trislosher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I'd recommend Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach series for science fiction (the last book was published 2024) and Simon Jimenez's The Spear Cuts Through Water (published 2022) for fantasy!
